I like your list. But are you sure that you'd consider Summoning symphonic? I know they have orchestral elements, but their use of the synth orchestra does not really equate to a true symphonic band. They only use the synth orchestra in an imitative polyphonic-like style, to play minor melodies, or to accompany the guitar's accompanying themes for added effect.

A real symphonic black metal band (in my opinion) uses the orchestra for non-imitative polyphonic use. The orchestra performs its own accompanying themes that are not imitative of the guitar themes. If you want a real symphonic black metal band, listen to Carach Angren.

But this is only my opinion; symphonic Black metal does not really have any established musical precepts. So you if you feel that Summoning is symphonic, you certainly are not wrong to think so.

I would not put Nightwish as number 1 but I think I'd put them in my top list. I fully agree that your lst is done according to your own tastes of this kind of music.

Otherwise, for me Epica and Therion are definitely members of it, I did not know the 2 others, it's nice though I don't like much when singers grunt more than anything else, the sole exception would be for epica where I found it is well balanced by Simone's voice.

Nightwish is one of the most overrated band! they are famous and so everyone know their existense but this is not a valid reason for me to put them in my top 5!

I don't care if a band is more famous than other to make a list.Nightwish, rhapsody ( another overrated band), angra and similar band are too power metal for my taste, within temptation has too much a pop feeling. there are too symphonic metal bands out there to put all in one video so i have decided to insert only my favorite, ok?

If nightwish is kwowed from 75% of the people and these same people meet few other bands over them these persons pretend to see them in this video without having a complete view of the movement " symphonic metal". Obiously, the more famous band has a major probability to be meet by someone and , therefore, to be rated by him and to form they top five. This is true for every person, for me too.

Hell, during the new year celebrations in finland, they played bits of the new nightwish album out loud while watching the fireworks. They are just popular.

You can't call a band overrated just because their music is better known than the music of bands that have been inspired by it. Otherwise you can call Bach and Vivaldi overrated as well, since a big chunk of the contemporary music is based on their work ;)

Bieber is overrated - he's done nothing for his genre, for the music, etc, he hasn't inspired anyone to reinvent the genre and create new music. Nightwish on the other hand have, ever since their first albums. That's why I can't agree to consider them overrated. :)

@xfxrony Nightwish is self and critically proclaimed a symphonic metal band - songs like ghost love score & the poet and the pendulum are the definition of this genre. Just to clear that up.

However this vid is a compilation of this persons top 5 symph-metal bands and so Nightwish and others don't have to be included.

Personally though, they and Sonata Arctica would be in my top 5 for sure, as good as these bands are.
