The only problem with taking off the warranty sticker is if you want to get another ps3 for a lower price now you have to buy a whole new one for 500 bucks or so. In my case I got the YLOD and it broke 3 months after the warranty wore off so now I only have to pay 160 dollars to get a whole new one and they send you back anything you had inside stuck such as games or so on...

The sony legal team is clever as hell.

They put a small sticker on the opening with barely readable letters explaining how you void your warranty by opening the case. And how many amateurs tend to get curious and try to open it? Too many...

you in fact do not get a whole new PS3. You get a refurbished one with a new case around it. In my case i had the YLOD and sent it in. I had to pay the 160 dollars and got my refurb back. Which then i had to send in also because of video problems. Now im on my 3rd PS3.

one disadvantage to taking the warranty sticker off is if your ps3 breaks, you cant send it to Sony. Even if your unit is 3 years old, you can get it fixed, just for a fee.
