  • if thats ur bed room your in how do u sleep at night with all those monster things in the backround

  • @defor14

It's not a bedroom but I'd have no problem sleeping in here.

  • Nice, love the tone on the bass! Is that the same bass that you use in tom sawyer?

  • @XRETRYHD

Thanks and yes, it is the same bass.

  • how do you get that tone??

  • @diggitymoon

It's mostly the bass itself and the way I strike the strings and have the bass set up.

  • @TJH3113 Thanks for the reply, I gotta check on getting a Fender Jazz then! Im playin a Gibson Thunderbird and it's just too muddy for my liking

  • Great Bass!! :)

  • @superava1982

    Thanks.

  • I am impressed, even the sound and growl of your bass is spot on...

  • @aestrellagabilondo

    Thank you.

  • Woah you must be very rich to have a collection of expensive basses and switching basses for different songs. Of course: AWESOME JOB!!

  • @2012wyvern

Believe me when I say that we're very far from "rich", my wife and I just live well within our means and spend our money on the things we like and care for. Thank you.

  • @TJH3113 Oh cool. But its definetely cool to use different basses for diff songs. Welcome.

  • do you have tabs to give people?

  • @willemslevi

    No, I'm sorry I don't.

  • Awesome masks!

  • @memster34

Thanks. Most are from "Death Studios".

  • Good job, you think the best bass player I've ever seen, I would like to see you playing Genesis - No Reply At All, as we consider one of the greatest bass lines.

  • @vngonzalez

Thanks. I started playing around with "No Reply" last night after reading your comment. I believe that song tend to get blocked vigorously by YouTube but I'll give it a shot.

  • hi can you do a lesson of the song?

  • @Radar1zone

Perhaps at some point. I did a tutorial on just the section under the guitar that might be of some help.

  • really cool maks !!! wow!!...is it all yours ?

  • @viauf

    Yes, I collect them.

  • Hi Troy. You're playing is fantastic. After years of playing guitar I recently satisfied my long interest in bass and picked up a Squier VM Jazz bass. Great bass for $300. As I started to learn this song, I used my ring finger to fret the 4th fret in the beginning run, whereas I see you're use your pinky. I can actually play it with either finger, but do you think it makes a difference which one to use? Obviously using the pinky helps strengthen it as it is the weaker finger. Thoughts?

  • @PaleRider32

Thank you very much. And I hope you enjoy your time with the bass.

I would advise using your pinky as often as possible in order to strengthen it. When I was learning to play I never used it and that made for some very awkward and uncomfortable stretches. I only recently started using it and can only use it sparingly as it will not cooperate with my ring finger.

  • @TJH3113

Thanks for the response. Makes good sense to me.

  • Do you have the TAB for this song? It is so hard to find good TAB any more.

  • @275REV

    No. I'm sorry, I don't have tabs.

  • Rickenbacker's are nice instruments, but I personally far prefer the tone you extract from your Jazz. For lack of a better term, it sounds more 'organic'. I have a 2010 Deluxe Jazz on order, sunburst, black pickguard, rosewood neck with pearl binding and block inlays, quite similar to your Geddy Lee! Can't wait to get my hands on it.

  • @ROONTANG

I agree with you. The Ric sounds great for certain things but horrid for others. The Jazz bass is a much more versatile instrument. Congratulations on your Jazz I hope you love it.

  • Awesome cover of one of my favorite Rush tunes! :)

  • @BuayaGuy

    Thank you.

  • Awesome! Sounds fantastic! Keep it up.

  • @83ishgirl

    Thank you.

  • @TJH3113 dude i might be a drummer, but covering rush makes mutual respect for me :P

  • @That70sShowRocker73

    Cool. Thanks.

  • hey i want to learn this song really bad but i cant learn by ear, and i cant find good tabs, can anyone help me?

  • @EpicSavageProd Watch this guy play!

  • Thanks yes that was very usefull a lot easier to follow thanks mate

  • @rocka985

Good. I'm glad if it was of some help.

  • Great playing again, saw rush a few weeks ago in Manchester they were awsome. Any chance of you doing any lessons to any songs???

  • @rocka985

Glad you got to see them. And thanks. I have a playlist on my channel titled "Bass Tutorials" (which are really just slowed down demonstrations). You might find something there of interest. I did the bass under the solo section of this song on one of them.

  • Is this bass worth it, i was thinking about getting the black model, i tried it out two or three times and i like the neck and sound quality. Thanks for the reply!

  • @macmillantac501

I think so. I'm very happy with it and probably play it more than my Rickenbacker at this point. If you're really on a budget I've heard nothing but good things about the "70's Modified Jazz Basses". They come in black and natural.

  • @TJH3113 Thank you, btw amazing video's, i subsribed to your channel. :)

  • @macmillantac501

    No problem and thank "you".

  • @TJH3113 Just a small idea, have you ever tried muse? Because i have been a bass player since a while now and i've always found there bass tracks....Intresting... Although they are really fun to play!

  • @macmillantac501

No, I've never played anything by Muse. I think I might have heard only one song - the one with the distorted bass in the beginning. I'll give them a listen if I get the chance.

  • RUSH!!!!

  • @jewish914

    Hells yeah!

  • Great Playing...Cool Bass..Rush is my fav band, thumbs up!!!!

  • @NightScripture

    Thank you. Mine too!

  • Hey! Simon Cowell plays bass!

  • @Equipe3v

That's not the first time I've heard that.

  • @TJH3113 What kind of jazz is that? The only experience i've had on jazzes was my first which was a mexican one, but never really played an american jazz. How do they go tone wise?

  • @Equipe3v

It's a Geddy Lee model and they're made in Japan. I've heard some people, more knowledgeable than me, say they think the Japanese stuff is superior in quality to the American made instruments.

  • @TJH3113 I play american basses, and i've never played a japanese before. I've got a couple of great musicman basses, but i'm not sure if there are any japanese makes of them. If i was to buy another jazz, would you suggest an american or a japanese if i'm going to be playing it for progressive music?

  • @Equipe3v

I was talking about the Japanese-made Fender stuff. I like Musicman as well. I don't think it matters what kind of bass you play as long as you like it and are comfortable with it.

  • Really relaxed playing style, you make it seem like you've been playing it longer than Geddy :P

  • @jonhath123

    Thanks.

  • Here's my own cover on my Youtube channel for my own music.

    youtube.com/watch?v=Qp3oBhA3BBM

  • @BassManGilbert My, my, my... I just used that word quite a bit for one sentence.

  • @BassManGilbert

I just came across this comment while answering another. I didn't get notification of it. The link is not working for me and I didn't see it on your channel.

  • @TJH3113 Haha, well I'm sorry about the link, but you have seen it! GilbertKMusic is my other account

  • This song isnt that hard its just the timing thats a bit challenging.

  • @xsyntheticxwhorex

I agree, it's fairly straight forward as far a RUSH songs go.

  • Interested? You betcha! I have so much difficulty placing the notes exactly where they need to be...thanks to you, I'm improving on this & quite a few others. You have some ear for subtle nuances!

  • It's me again...the creepy dude, studying your left hand!

  • @SteamDriven3

Nothing creepy about it. Study on. I recorded a Demo/Tutorial for the solo section of this song which I'll post soon if you're interested.

  • @TJH3113 Please post the solo part breakdown!

  • @bronx420420

Alright, but I'm terrible at this sort of thing.

  • Great job, man.

  • @Basspsychotube

    Thank you.

  • I have watched this cover several times now trying to learn this song, you make it look so easy, Fantastic Man!!!!!!

  • @ronsthebg

Keep at it and you'll get it. Just work on small sections at a time. Thank you.

  • wow man ,sweet cover ,ive just started learning this one

  • @nudeadnation

Thanks. This song isn't too bad on the RUSH scale of difficulty. Good luck with it.

  • Very cool man!! you have help me!

will trade bass lessons for scuba lessons!!!

  • @DirtyReySanchez

I'm glad you found the video helpful. If I ever get to Panama...

  • i listened to the isolated bass for this and i noticed in the verses when Geddy plays the A flat note he plays the octave of it apart from the first verse. Then in the final verse he plays the octave of the B note.

  • @CosmoKrameryyz

I'd have to listen to it to really get an idea of what you're talking about.

  • do u have a cover for working man if not id like to hear u play it

  • @russianprez

No, I haven't covered Working Man. I'm not a big fan of the first album.

  • how much was this bass? im guessing around 700-800?

  • @Basspowns

I believe they're closer to $1,000 now. I know when they first came out they were below $600 but as demand increased, so did the price.

  • @buttersbass34

Not sure what you meant but if you were wondering if I used any "harmonics", no I didn't.

  • @buttersbass34 No effects. Just straight through a small Fender SP-10 guitar practice amp.

  • @movies4u27

Yes. When I was looking for a used one there were none around so I went to a local music store they had just gotten this one in and had a couple in black as well. I chose this because there are a million black ones out there.

I don't know how much you're into bass stuff but did you notice that Geddy's changed his bass neck on this tour. It has white pearl blocks instead of the black.

  • I have the black one, the sunburst looks pretty fly though!

  • @Bassist172112

Yeah, it's a little different looking.

  • how do you get suck great sond out of you bass

  • @bobbypetosa All the Geddy Lee model basses sound pretty much like this.

  • @TJH3113 o ok

  • Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! The only version I have heard on here who absolutely h as the guitar solo bass part absolutely right - You have an awesome ear mate! As do I (hee hee)

  • @floouk Thank you. I do believe that the devil is in the details.

  • Geds basslines stand o their own imo. same with Neil's parts. You can play their parts isolated and most people recognize the song instantly. Not really the same with other bands. Thats Rush rule imo.

  • @dwilmer7 I agree completely .

  • you ususally use your little finger to fret notes that are only a whole step away from the 1st? interesting...

  • @soopahsoopah I only began using my pinky a short while ago after a long break from playing. For a lot of years I fretted with only three fingers, it was a bad habit and hard to break. One odd thing, my pinky will not work with my ring finger right next to it. By the way, I liked the videos of the RUSH cover band you've uploaded on your channel.

  • @TJH3113 Thanks - that is my Rush cover band. I am on (of course) bass.

  • @soopahsoopah I didn't realize that it was your band, I'll have a closer listen.

  • Nice playing. You have those little grace notes down well.

  • @keytarpimp Thanks. Are those extension cords set as wallpaper on your channel? I do a big Halloween thing each year, have miles of extension cord and had a flashback when I saw it.

  • @TJH3113 Yes, actually my wife did that for me.

  • @keytarpimp Looks cool.

  • I've been playing bass now for around 30 years. I'm slowly getting back into my comfort zone in playing. I purchased a video camera and hope to start uploading videos and time permits. I love playing to Rush, Iron Maiden, Saga and Yngwie Malmsteen.

Your playing is outstanding. You make it look effortless.

  • @constantine2112 Cool, I look forward to seeing you out here. Iron Maiden is tough. As far as looking effortless - if you played these songs as many times as I have you'd give off the illusion of effortlessness as well. I was pretty fanatical in my youth, most likely undiagnosed OCD or something similar.

  • Another great job. I love the 3/4 time during the solo starting at 2:40. You nailed it.

Thanks once again for posting this track. The starburst looks awesome.

    Take care

  • @constantine2112 Thanks. You play, don't you?

  • @constantine2112 WHOA i just realized that it was in 3/4 during the solo!!

  • wow you should have way more viewers

  • @vectron12 That's ok, thank you for viewing.
