For all of this saying "Setzer is the greatest". He is great, but surly not the best. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Stevie ray Vaughan, BB King, they were the best. I'm not a troll, I love music as much as you guys. But he really isn't the best.
@Evan42881 That's surely subjective? My favourite artists, are to me, the best, but they haven't sold the most records ever, they can't shred or play a million notes a minute. It all depends on what you think makes them the best or greatest. So to you Setzer isn't the greatest, but to many people he is. And that's fine :)
@TheModCon I'm not sure. My brother posted this. I'm into all the guys he said, but I disagree with him. I like the stray cats, and I love Brian Setzer. Great guitar player.

This version is good. It's raw in a restrained sort fo way. If you want a really energetic version, check out the Zeppelin cover from RAH, a whole nother level of intensity.
Positive music, great sound. What is the problem with dickheads dissing every other genre of music they don't like or listen to. Hit at search button and fuck off.
I don't care about Billy B. Thornton, I don't even like him as an actor. Every lame ass 1yr old can play as Brian Setzer does? Yeah, right! And you talk about U3, and say "this band sux balls"?
I was wrong, your head isn't full of crap, you' re just a dumbass.
@lazydreamer1000 - first of all - "U3" - is that a U2 tribute band? I searched come on everybody by "U3" and couldn't find it, so I defaulted to come on everybody by "U2". Thought they killed it personally. Just because something's old doesn't mean it's not good. Otherwise people wouldn't still listen to classical music.
And if the U2 version is anything to go by, things only get worse as time goes on, from what I heard.
Rockabilly is authentic. Not surprising that younger generations don't get it. Newer bands don't live and die by their ability to play live. Appreciation will come with maturity.
i just dont get rockabilly...its like, i have a car, and a cell phone, and a computer...soooo...lemme type you a letter and run it to the post office on my bicycle......every possible iterations of this crap has been done...IN THE 50s!!!!!!!

@lazydreamer1000 Rockabilly started with Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochrane, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, etc, and it just goes on. It's not a revival, nor wishing to be born in the Fifties. You' re free to say you don't like it, but if you call it crap...then your head is full of crap too.

To me- this is the rock 'n roll version, and Sid's was the punk version. So I love both versions! Geez people, it is just a song. TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF GENRE. And both versions of this song rocks.
No body seems to know what punk is about... Because there isn't a definition. It's everything and nothing at once. It doesn't matter which is better. Sid's was good. The Cat's was good. Cochran's was good. Good fucking song. Move along. Like what you like. Don't confrom to something.. Shit, are you all fucking two?
Great cover by the Sexy Stray Cats :P Sid Vicious's cover might not have been good but it wasn't supposed to sound good, Sid was a Punk and you didn't have to be a good singer or good band member to be in a band in those days, that's what Punk was all about!!!
I finally made it to a Stray Cats gig, after nearly 30 years. Their first concert in Denmark in 82 or 83 got cancelled. i couldn't afford the next one in 1990ish, then passing though Hamburg Germany in 2004 i saw a poster for a Cats concert playing the day before, AAAAArghhh I HAD to make the Farewell tour.

@Dman93Dman Dude This Music Is Timeless. The Rockabilly Revival Didn't Last Long But It Ushered In The "Austin TX. Music Movement". Stevie R.V, T-Birds, ZZ Top.Maybe You Can Travel To The Netherlands Or Europe Were There Still Is A Seen?
@Dman93Dman agreed mate I'm 15 I like old school Rock'n'Roll,Punk,Heavy Metal,Thrash Metal,Rock Glam and pop(sorry can't help it,it's just soo good) but some underground music is good too you know,HORNS!!!!!!!!
@scrappy5011, Abso-fucking-lutely! The Gretsch 6120 with filtertrons is the coolest electric guitar on the planet. I love that Aussie band The Living End. Great guitarist who uses Gretsch guitars. Ever heard of The Reverend Horton Heat? He wails on his own souped up Signature 6120. Great shockabilly. "The Great Gretsch Sound" says it all! G'day, mate!
I havent heard of The Reverend Horton Heat but Ill take a look for sure. The living end are from Melbourne-my home town-I actually live in the same area as Scott Owen-seriously,Ive seen him at the supermarket.Chris Cheney has always had that white Falcon-great guitar.
Yeah Man, There's a shitload of Reverend Horton Heat videos on YouTube. There's even one where he gives a quick lesson and there's also one where a Rockabilly guitarist tests a RHH Signature Gretsch 6120. Chris Cheney fucking rules. Love his style. I've been a big fan of Midnight Oil since 1982. Also, A great group called Ups and Downs. Australia has produced a lot of great bands. Always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand. My Mom has some relatives in Perth whom none of us has ever met.
I've seen many of the great RnR bands- stones, who, etc. But the best show I've ever seen was the stray cats at a small theater in Hempstead, NY in the early 1980s. It was as if for one night i was transported back to the 50s to witness the birth of rock and roll.
Not only was this an Eddie Cochran original, not only did Sid Vicous NOT write or do this song well, but, of all people, it was Brian Setzer of The Stray Cats himself who PLAYED Eddie Cochran in the film "La Bamba."
If there was going to be one person who could (and was chosen to!) reproduce this song the way it was meant to be done, it was Setzer...and The Stray Cats.
@Arkady63- Sir, you seriously understate your case. The Stray Cats WERE the rockabilly revival, and Brian Setzer was the reincarnation of Eddie Cochran. That was the point from the beginning. Dave Edmunds kept rockabilly alive for 20 years until he produced the Stray Cats. And their version of "Jeanie, Jeanie, Jeanie" is indistinguishable from the Eddie Cochran original. Setzer totally channeled Cochran.
Ahahahahahah wow. this song is clearly Eddie Cochran's aha. Who ever thinks this "belongs" to Sex Pistols or Sid needs to take some music appriciation classes.

Fucken AAAAAAA i have a 6120 with the filtertrons but its Black-Id take a bullet to save that guitar!!!!!!!!
scrappy5011 2 years ago 12
@scrappy5011, Abso-fucking-lutely! The Gretsch 6120 with filtertrons is the coolest electric guitar on the planet. I love that Aussie band The Living End. Great guitarist who uses Gretsch guitars. Ever heard of The Reverend Horton Heat? He wails on his own souped up Signature 6120. Great shockabilly. "The Great Gretsch Sound" says it all! G'day, mate!

I havent heard of The Reverend Horton Heat but Ill take a look for sure. The living end are from Melbourne-my home town-I actually live in the same area as Scott Owen-seriously,Ive seen him at the supermarket.Chris Cheney has always had that white Falcon-great guitar.
scrappy5011 2 years ago
Yeah Man, There's a shitload of Reverend Horton Heat videos on YouTube. There's even one where he gives a quick lesson and there's also one where a Rockabilly guitarist tests a RHH Signature Gretsch 6120. Chris Cheney fucking rules. Love his style. I've been a big fan of Midnight Oil since 1982. Also, A great group called Ups and Downs. Australia has produced a lot of great bands. Always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand. My Mom has some relatives in Perth whom none of us has ever met.

@scrappy5011 i would give you that bullet to get it :P

I've seen many of the great RnR bands- stones, who, etc. But the best show I've ever seen was the stray cats at a small theater in Hempstead, NY in the early 1980s. It was as if for one night i was transported back to the 50s to witness the birth of rock and roll.

How sexy is Brian Setzer?!!!

Awesome! I love the Stray Cats & they're Long Island boys to boot! Thanks for posting!

End of story.

totally agree!
andreafatica 2 years ago 3
@Arkady63- Sir, you seriously understate your case. The Stray Cats WERE the rockabilly revival, and Brian Setzer was the reincarnation of Eddie Cochran. That was the point from the beginning. Dave Edmunds kept rockabilly alive for 20 years until he produced the Stray Cats. And their version of "Jeanie, Jeanie, Jeanie" is indistinguishable from the Eddie Cochran original. Setzer totally channeled Cochran.

@Arkady63
You got that right.
So there was somebody who didn't think so?
LittleDragon2000 1 year ago

@Arkady63 I agree But Sid Didn't want his version to be good, just like any other punk, he didn't care if it was good or not :)
