when I'm faded, I put this song on. HAHAHA Idk why, but I have a good laugh when I hear King Diamond's high-pitched voice when I'm really drunk. Makes me laugh my ass off.
An amazing early epic from MERCYFUL FATE with some WICKED solos! It's also included on the "Very Best Of" from RoadRunner if anyone is interested, along with three tracks from the EP and of course "Return Of The Vampire".
This hymn of a song has a dozen of epic guitar riff/solo moments in it! why, oh why on earth isn't it in one of their studio albums??? I had to download it,but now I can enjoy it on my ipod as much as I want, hehe!
And this when this came out was pure masterpiece. This was by far I believe the all time best Fate song even its raw form, which to me made this cut that much more special, epic and unique...
I graduated high school in 1986 and remember this metal well. Still sounds heavy as hell. The music of the modern rock or if you can classify as metal sucks. I wonder if there will be a time when metal can come back with the ferocity of the 1980's?
@constpegasus Dude I agree. I was a little kid in the early 80's and all these bands, and this shit was magical to me. My heart is in the King and The Fate, and my high school days were all about Pantera. So I put that influence into my new metal band "She Murdered Me'. Check us out, whether you like the music or not, I believe we instill the now a days original sound metal has seem to long lost \m/
@constpegasus You can search for Electric Wizard. They were formed in 1993 and their kind of music is traced back to the late 60s-early 70s heavy rock/proto-doom metal, a time when the interest in the occult and the appetite for psychedelic drugs were very fucking big. And you know, as every real metal fan, that the heaviest band in those times was Black Sabbath, one of Mercyful Fates musical influences. So you're kinda wrong regarding modern rock/metal music. Besides, there are
@constpegasus more bands like Electric Wizard that share the same kind of music and atmosphere.Acid King is another perfect example, as well as Cathedral, Sleep. Sorry I gave you only Stoner/Doom Metal examples, but apart from this underground genre of music, I can't say there are other modern rock music that sounds THIS old-school. You said smth about modern bands that share the 80s ferocity, right? 80s rock/metal was influenced by 70 rock/metal, so why not listen to the fathers?!
@constpegasus Stoner/Doom is by far the heaviest modern subgenre along with probably the most recent subgenre of metal music, called Djent, pioneered by Messhuggah in the mid-to late 90s (although it doesn't sound anything old-school).
@swccmty "I wonder why this epic song was never on regular albums of MF?" It involved the drummer for this tune no longer being affiliated with the band, so they couldn't use it on a full length album due to crediting issues.
@swccmty Actually this song morphed into "Devil Eyes" off the first Mercful Fate e.p. I think Devil Eyes is also on that In The Beginning compilation. But I also enjoy this original version better myself.
This song is so complex, technically and lyrically, I cant stop listening. You just don't get song writing like this any more. Full props for uploading this one. All Hail the King!!!
Thumbs up if you were banging your head, even just a little, while you were listening to this song! Completely fucking awesome!!!!!!
