Read the Bhagwath Gita Ch. 4.13. Lord Krishna says, "I have created the four castes according to the 'qualities' and 'activities' of human beings." There is no mention of birth. Also in the gita, ch 18.41, Krishna says, "I have created the four castes according to the qualities, activities, and the inborn natures of human beings." Again thee is no mention of birth. I was born into a brahmin family but I have to accept the truth.

If people would understand that one is a brahmana by qualification and not by birth then it would be okay, like a doctors son is not automatically a doctor, that would b dangerous. The Vedic system is that of all the 4 classes everyone can become a brahmana if he has the qualifications, but this is not followed. We are born as brahmins to serve the Supreme lord, because we did lot of good deeds and wished/vouched to to serve almighty. Sufferings are because of past mis-deeds OR because god is testing us by sending alakshmi. No matter what profession we are in, we should not forget our dharma and doing good to the society. i think one important fact we must understand is that no caste is linked to birth, but to our deeds or 'karma'. if a low caste person by birth behaves and acts like a brahmin while doing his work then he is not low caste. if a brahmin as is unfortunately the case today is involved in all bad things such as crime, greed, drinking, gambling, meat eating, etc. then such a brahmin is not brahmin but even lower than the lowest shudra! we must change ourselves first and purify before we can lead
if govt doesn't help, privatise! come together and build ashrama communities which include temples, vedic schools, goshalas, ayurvedic clinics in every village. if govt sees it helping people of all castes, they will eventually support it. the one who doesn't follow brahmanatva is not a brahman. lets change our lifestyles first and become pure. if charitable institutes employ sincere brahmans to teach in rural schools, education will be spread widely. do something instead of blaming others!

@krithi32 i don't know much about the extent of this problem but regardless of who oppresses whom, brahmins are supposed to be the torch-bearers of dharma, the ones who at times have even took over the domain of kshatriyas of protecting dharma when they fell (ref. bhagwan parshuram, maharshi bharadwaj, etc.) perhaps its time now for brahmins to become vaishyas and kshatriyas and make enough money to use in dharmic causes! the ones who are supposed to do it are too greedy and not bothered..
there is no point blaming the government and other people. we should help ourselves! why can't the rich brahmans pool money and build goshalas to create employment for their poor brothers? the milk can then be sold to local villagers who will also benefit due to good nutrition, increased income, less diseases, well nourished children. it will benefit people of all castes. they can build schools and temples where brahmans can work on decent wages and uphold dharma!

Why don't the well to do brahmans take initiative and learn the vedic scriptures themselves instead of wasting spare time in doing activities which are wrong? Why don't those who are learned teach their children the vedas before or after they come home from a normal school? I am favour for economical support by the govt. for Economically Backward Class people including Brahmins. And the case based reservation is for educationally and socially backward people. Even now brahmins are the majority caste in beaurocracy even after 60 years of reservation for SC/STs and 17years of reservation for OBCs.Even now the reservation is not fully implemented.Till date the representation of SC/STs in Central Govt Group 1 and Group 2 is less than 12% and the OBCs representation is less than 6%. But their minimum representation should be atleast of 22% and 27% respectively as per Caste Based Reservation. Who blocks the Reservation? The answer every one knows.
Brahmins enjoyed caste based reservation in the form of MANU Dharma (?) Sasthra, and ArthaSasthra for 5000 years. In that time why you people didnt raise voice against that Cast Based Reservation. They denied access of education to the vast majority of the people of India.

No one is cribbing. In TN only 31% of the seats are available on merit. Even for the remaining 31% seats they must compete with OBC's and SC's. If Hinduism is still alive even after 500 years of Khilji and Moghul rule and 300 years of British rule then its due to Brahmins...

It is sad to see that these people are living in financial hardship, however they do not have my sympathy because they are Brahmin, they would have my sympathy if they were Brahmin, Dalit or anything else. I too have some conclusions after lot of study about religions, Hindu concept of varnas, African tribal practices, etc. My conclusions - I. Hindu scripture of Vedas and Jewish style of self discipline practices must be learnt by all people of the world. II. Only the Vedas of India have clearly said that it is not some man, or some person hanging in the sky to be called God, is supreme. It is just pure consciousness only true, eternal and universal. This principle only can bind all people.

If people would understand that one is a brahmana by qualification and not by birth then it would be okay, like a doctors son is not automatically a doctor, that would b dangerous. The Vedic system is that of all the 4 classes everyone can become a brahmana if he has the qualifications, but this is not followed. We are born as brahmins to serve the Supreme lord, because we did lot of good deeds and wished/vouched to to serve almighty. Sufferings are because of past mis-deeds OR because god is testing us by sending alakshmi. No matter what profession we are in, we should not forget our dharma and doing good to the society. if govt doesn't help, privatise! come together and build ashrama communities which include temples, vedic schools, goshalas, ayurvedic clinics in every village. if govt sees it helping people of all castes, they will eventually support it. the one who doesn't follow brahmanatva is not a brahman. lets change our lifestyles first and become pure. if charitable institutes employ sincere brahmans to teach in rural schools, education will be spread widely. do something instead of blaming others!

@krithi32 i don't know much about the extent of this problem but regardless of who oppresses whom, brahmins are supposed to be the torch-bearers of dharma, the ones who at times have even took over the domain of kshatriyas of protecting dharma when they fell (ref. bhagwan parshuram, maharshi bharadwaj, etc.) perhaps its time now for brahmins to become vaishyas and kshatriyas and make enough money to use in dharmic causes! the ones who are supposed to do it are too greedy and not bothered..

there is no point blaming the government and other people. we should help ourselves! why can't the rich brahmans pool money and build goshalas to create employment for their poor brothers? the milk can then be sold to local villagers who will also benefit due to good nutrition, increased income, less diseases, well nourished children. it will benefit people of all castes. they can build schools and temples where brahmans can work on decent wages and uphold dharma!

Why don't the well to do brahmans take initiative and learn the vedic scriptures themselves instead of wasting spare time in doing activities which are wrong? Why don't those who are learned teach their children the vedas before or after they come home from a normal school? I strongly support the Pay Hike for the Priests for atleast Rs.7000. But this can be possible only when the government takes control of the temple and if possible made into a corporation. But will the priests accept that? They only opposed the Hindu Religious Institution act 1925 (Aranilaiya Sattam) of Justice Party in Madras Presidency.

Even now brahmins are the majority caste in beaurocracy even after 60 years of reservation for SC/STs and 17years of reservation for OBCs.Even now the reservation is not fully implemented.Till date the representation of SC/STs in Central Govt Group 1 and Group 2 is less than 12% and the OBCs representation is less than 6%. But their minimum representation should be atleast of 22% and 27% respectively as per Caste Based Reservation. Who blocks the Reservation? The answer every one knows.

These are those, that get reported and the number could be as high as 15000. Brahmins have always been a tiny minority, but enjoyed unearned traditional privileges via the caste system for centuries at the cost of the majority Indians. What brahmins practice as a religion is brahminism, a socio-religious racist philosophy which is antithetical to all modern human values. People have every right to reject it and seek other egalitarian faiths.

@utalk1 work is worship - any work . no one here has denied that . do you know hindi? egalitarian? which society is egalitarian? christianity? islam? communism? they are colonialist and hegimonistic forces who have all done great misdeeds far worse than any one else.. there is beggary and unearned discrimination in reservation. to day there is democracy and may the best man win ! people convert to bypass competition and bitch to gain favour. that is the truth.at least these are not beggars.

@afinpro i have seen how your mutual cooperation works . in the open category which is rare in govt. jobs I have witnessed how a group of people promoted a candidate saying he was obshee qand should be considered.the guy on the other side of the table was overwhelmed and said ..if the candidate was so good then he will select himself...true is it not. what we want is an open competition and open selection..then let us see your true worth.not that you are not brilliant , but..

Whats so special about brahmins doing menial work. Its high time they join the Indian society. They have enjoyed unearned privileges for too long at the cost of Indians. Dalits and low castes have been doing these types of work for centuries without complaining, even they were enslaved into this menial work by the Hindu caste system. It is good brahmins have finally realized that there is dignity in labor. DALITS WERE NEVER HINDUS.

@koolsandeepikot - caste ke basis pe hi to sare reservation hain aur sara election bhi usi par based hai.abhi ki census bhi isi liyea ho raha hai ki kis kaum ko aur reservation diya jaye.neechta to yahi hai ki deserving candidates ko bahar aur kachre ko andar..bada nyay ho raha hai.aur lat to tum jaise kutte ko deni chahiyea jo emotional outburst ya symbols ko nahi samajhta.progress ki gaand mar di reservation ne.aaj koi dalit doctor se kyun darta hai? kabiliyat ke anusar reward hona chahiyea.

I too have some conclusions after lot of study about religions, Hindu concept of varnas, African tribal practices, etc. My conclusions - I. Hindu scripture of Vedas and Jewish style of self discipline practices must be learnt by all people of the world. II. Only the Vedas of India have clearly said that it is not some man, or some person hanging in the sky to be called God, is supreme. It is just pure consciousness only true, eternal and universal. This principle only can bind all people.

@Embikay I add point: On overall basis, I find Bramins have more self-discipline and are less violent. But naturally, they outwit you if you want to hurt them due to jealousy and hate. Many of socalled non Brahmins are keen to go on talking about castes and want inter-caste marriages, only because when their young men find some good looking girls, trap them to marry them. But due to less discipline, the man wants to continue to smoke, drink, etc,hence will not make good husband for brahmin boy.

Only in Vedas first of all the concept of VARNA SYSTEM was given . In RIGVEDA purush Sutra verse 1 was given the first BEEJMANTRA of Varna Discrimination . On this the whole structure of Brahminism is raised . Please do not fool anyone by praising Vedas .

@dalbirk I have read somewhere in this lengthy comments debate, a chair has to have four or at least 3 pods/ legs to maintain balance.U can build a chair with one leg also so there is nothing of what u call discrimination which just hides the fact of 4 different legs.This chair needs an unduly large amount of force to keep it stable.The bijamantra of Varnas in which the 4 legs are built are made of the same material but with slight different special additives. Sounds like nuke pysics?

@dalbirk In the final analysis, OVer a time in the future, the hereditary practice with its limited advantage of training can be substituted by one in which group education and training on priestly, commercial, military, and manual skills becomes the practice. Our modern systems for various purposesof organisation and management have totally failed us despite their scientific selection criteria and methods due to human weakness of corruption in subtlest ways.

Just look at the horrible pronunciation of even Tamil by announcers and even some speakers (I do not know how they dare to do that job) at the Ulaga Tamizh Semmoazhi Conference.

@Embikay (contd. B.)I felt like literally flogging these sinners for tring to murder my beloved Mother Tongue. Brahmins who may be jus 10% brahminical in their conduct, mostly utter Tamil words ACCURATELY. Most people (not those wanting to grab these poor Brahmins' jobs in temples), will any day refer people to utter Thothirams and Mantrams correctly and will trust Brahmins to do that instead of other people.

@Embikay (Concld. C) I condemn pseudo fighters of casteism, demanding that non Brahmins also must be allowed to do Poojas in temples. What is wrong if a poor Brahmin coming in a traditional line continues to do priestly jobs in temples, uttering the Vedas etc with correct pronunciation much better, than the others. Note that these poojaris are not paid a big salary. Politicians and missionaries know no limits to their efforts to exploit the ignorance of common people for their own agendas.

MY FINAL 'PRONOUNCEMENT' ON THIS THEME OF BRAHMINS OR BRAHMINISM IS >> a) Brahmins as the spirualist or vedanta section of Vedic society, may have existed long ago, not now. b) Brahminhood is neither one of heredity nor of one's claim, assertion or law. If you have spiritual bent of mind, and be a spiritualist and preach it to society for its good, you are Brahmin. Similarly Vaishya, etc. c) Varna system is no diferent from what we can call as rational and scientific one.But it is just theory.

You have raised a valid point. 74% india is hindus (out of that 30% are upper caste), 12% are muslims..obviously 44+12 is bigger number for government especially congress party..which has done heinous things in India in the name of secularism.
Hindu temples are still under government (what the heck..why dont they go and possess those mosques and churches..why temples).government has deliberately underdeveloped hindus..offlate its just money now..
