  • WBNB Channel 10 - the CBS affiliate in the US Virgin Islands - past the 0:38 mark

The station also used that KTVY 1979 theme

    watch?v=J2BNKOcTJdA

  • Very Crafty News Open:

    1) The WNBC-WRC-Like animation of "NewsCenter4"

    2) the NewsCenter4 title zooming out and landing on the front of the anchor desk

    3) the NewsCenter 4 turning around to the anchors

    4) then the anchor starts talking

  • I sure would love to see really old footage of channels 25, 34, and 43 from the late 70's-early 80's.

  • What a strange desk... the opening four-shot looks like they're all waiting to get beamed up by the teleporter!

I bet it was pretty hard to get that shot lined up consistently every night so the luma key graphics would wrap around the edge of the desk perfectly.

  • But, you got to admit it was ahead of its time .. Just look at the CBS evening news now with the screen in front of Katie's desk which rolls graphics in the bumps to the breaks..Of course that kind of technology was unheard of back then.

  • NewsCenter4's opening graphics looked simuliar to the WNBC & WRC versions, but didn't have the NBC news ticker. Why?

  • This was in the late 70s, no ticker yet.

  • I used to watch NBC 4, in Oklahoma City. Yes, I remember when it was WKY NBC 4, in Oklahoma City.

  • NBC 4, in Oklahoma City is not a NBC O & O. O & O means 'owned & operated'.

  • It would've been great for the WNBC-TV version.

  • The farm anchor was Russell Pierson.

  • Robbie Robertson is a dork.

  • "This is Robbie Robertson...channel 4....SPORTS" LMAO

  • The weather man is Jim Gandy and it is Robbie Robertson next to Ernie. Yes, it is the farm report guy on the far right but can't remember his name.

  • A few notes:

    1. It is 99 percent possible that's Ronnie Kaye on the VO. Kaye had a dance show back when it was WKY and probably did a lot of announcing on the side.

    2. The anchor is Ernie Shultz. I think he had been around since the 50s or 60s.

    3. The escapee who is the subject of the lead story was executed in 1990. His execution was the first since 1966 in Oklahoma and the first since capital punishment had been reinstated in Oklahoma.

  • I don't recognize the other people at the desk, except for the person sitting directly to Ernie's left, who appears to be Robbie Robbertson. I could be wrong.

  • I agree, that does look like Robbie. Since it appears to be the noon show. I feel safe saying that the guy on Ernie's right is the weather and the guy on Robbie's left is probably the farm news.

  • I think the weather guy *could* be Vince Miller or Jon Anders. But I don't ever remember Jon having a moustache. And based on the top story, the date of this newscast was April 25, 1979.

  • Sounds like Ronnie Kaye doing the VO.

  • yes, the VO. Is Ronnie Kaye. Matter of fact, he has a radio show on KOMA 92.5 FM, in Oklahoma City.
