I don't know any commentator called Martin Blundell.
Martin Brundle was an F1 driver and he is commentator in this clip, and Mark Blundell was an other F1 driver, who used to commentate some races, but not continuesly
Lucky it was near the pits! Not since Villenueve's Dutch GP in 79 have I seen a bloke drive into the pits after loosing a left rear wheel...though Gilles had to go a lap & then retire.
The same thing happened to a young Fernando Alonso at the same race when he was in a Minardi in 2001.. how ironic is that it happened at exactly the same place, only this time it was a front wheel and he still finished the race
Lost a wheel here, blew a tire in Germany, throttle problems in Australia, crashed at both Monza and San Marino, and proceeded to win the title be two points in Japan. Eventful year for the Flying Finn.
@HalfFast9 You forgot Austria´s GP in A1 Ring, pushed out of the track by Coulthard, left in last position and running like crazy to finish third! And in Brazil he temporally lost his 4th or 5th gear to finally win the race. I miss this champion so much, even if back then I preferred Irvine... I wish Mika returned one day even if for racing in just one race... Let´s say him in McLaren again replacing Button and running besides Hamilton, my favourite of McLaren´s last couple of drivers.
That's our "good old" Häkkinen. Got one big achievment; despite Michael Schumacher sneasing at more or less all his competitors Häkkinen got a review by MSchumacher. Said something like: The only driver I was afraid of was Häkkinen because he could actually beat me. /B13
Schumacher always saw Hakkinen as his greatest opponent. Probably because Hakkinen was one of the greatest drivers you'll ever see. Back then, i was a Schumi-fan, i still am, but i do miss those fights between Schumacher and Hakkinen. Golden.
Yeah, Ferrari should've given the #1 status to Raikkönen straight away, instead of giving the spot to an injured Massa. Alonso is great, and probably is a better all-round driver, but when it comes to pure speed, Raikkönen could push it like no one else in the current drivers field.
Yeah, Schumacher couldn't do that with a car in one piece... in the dry... during qualifying... and ruins everyone's lap... "by accident"... yeah right, cheating bastard!
That was his front tyre. Only the rear tyres give the most power, so if your front tyre is gone it actually doesnt matters, because the rear tyres still work.
Here the rear tyre is gone so it's actually herder.
@PESandFIFA That's not true. When the front tyres go it becomes equally difficult to turn because the front end dips when turning into the side where the tyre is missing. With the rear tyre it also halves the amount of drive the car has, and will tip the car so the opposite front wheel is off the ground. It would obviously be unraceable because of no grip/steering/speed, but it would be a lot safer to coast back.
@MightyMobileRacer if ur suspensions didnt took any damage and ur 50 meters away from the pit lane, u usualy dont stop in the middle of the track... evry other driver would do the same d`oh...
@BirGurbetKusu many drivers would carelessly lose the engine. Hakkinen is rather diligent at keeping engine alive: look at 1998 british gp and italian gp; spin but keep going.
The cars avoiding the wheel. Genuine f1 driving skill.

In wikipedia it says he retired because of the wheel. How so? He carried on normally....

When they change the tire you see an ad for "Loctite" on the rear wing. Funny!

When Mika finally won in SIlverstone in 2001 it was sweet after all his bad luck there in 1997, 1998 and 1999.

The marshal fucked up hakkinen here. With the safety car in the track he would had more time to catch the race again.

The Marshal was retrieving the left rear wheel and Häkkinen retired with a wheel bearing failure.

Fair play to the marshal for retrieving the wheel from the track, very brave indeed.
