  • how can one dislike sth like this?! o0

  • would you paint my horse if i sent you a picture of him???

  • @Rockaran100 I'm happy to take portrait commissions - please see w w w .portra.co.uk for fees & info ...I prefer to meet the animal if I'm doing a pastel portrait but I can always do a sketch from your own photos. Best thing is if I can see the photos available and then I can let you know what I'd be able to do

  • How do you keep your pencils sharpened? When i try to sharpen mine they just snap off :) Also, why do you sometimes use a rubber glove for blending?

  • @missy2shoes I use a Stanley knife to shave off the wood, but I don't cut into the pastel core, just paint with it as it comes. Sometimes for very fine marks I make a chisel shape by rubbing on sandpaper too. The surgical glove keeps the painting and my fingers clean.

  • Hey! My Name Is Cara, and I LOVE Horses! LOL! What A Coincidence?! You Are A Really Good Artist! =]

  • Lol...whenever i saw such stunning pictures ( I am 12, hobby artist and...well, i thought I am good before I saw tis...) I said :" These all are faked photos...they should suck my ass..." but now...*-*

    amazing and absolutly awesome ^-^

  • Excellent!!! it looks SO real!! You really captured the beauty of that horse!!!

  • Excellent!!!

  • name of song?

  • so much layers in it!

  • i want it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just might consider the pastels for my rodeo art!!!! Last yr I used prismacolor. I lov prismacolor but I love to try new things even more!!!! Wat do u think??? :)

  • tHaT iS aMaZiNg!

  • @Ponies4evaa sure ;)

  • amazing. one of the best painting i have ever seen!

  • are you sure your human?

  • i was wondering if u would take a pic of my horse and do a drawing?

  • I m wighting for it to move and say naigh at me WOW GRATE JOB

  • I can watch this video for hours, and still being so freaking fascinated by your AWESOME work!!!

  • wow..

  • your really are an incredible artist, the realism you portray is superb. lovely

  • WOW! THIS IS AMAZING! I WISH I COULD PAINT MY MARE! I CAN DRAW BUT MAN DO YOU HAVE ME BEAT!

  • As im sitting here watching you do this, i glance over at my horse painting i did a couple of days ago and think "gaahh...you make mine look like crap!" I wish to one day be as good as you! I think im going to try out those pastel pencils! Im starting to like them bbetter than paint!

  • you are amazing :D

  • hey! First I just have to say that your work is simply so amazing and inspiering!

I just have a little question:P Is it "hard" or oilpastels you use?:)

thanks a lot for charing your art!!

  • @elinapettersson thank you; I use hard pastels and pastel pencils

  • @portraUK oh okey:) I was just about to order a set of pastel pencils :D I'm so excited to try it! I mostly paint with acrylic:P can you recomend any special brand of pastels? :D

I've already said it ... but once again I just have to say thanks for sharing your amazing art! It's such an inspiration source to us less talented;D

  • @elinapettersson I've no talent, I just practice a lot! But thank you :) If you can find Schwann CarbOthello pastel pencils, I think they slightly have the edge in quality over the others and they are the softest so are lovely to work with. However, paper is way more important so try a few out till you find one you get on with. They are all very different to paint on. I like sanded paper myself.

  • @portraUK I've looked around for Schwann CarbOthello but without any succes... it' would end up costing a fortune with long and messy shipping..:/

I've found Derwent and Faber castell to resonabel price:P Any idea of which one I should go for?:)

and yes, as you say the paper is imortant, I've learned from my acrylic experience:P I've found two different kind of papper I'm gonna try now to begin with:)

thanks a lot for taking your time to help me!:)

  • @elinapettersson either or both - you'll save a lot of money if you can buy individual colours: if you buy a set you'll end up with a lot of bright colours you'll never use: they're just put in there to make the box look pretty!

  • @portraUK

I think if your a little kid trying to make a *hmpgh* RAINBOOOOOWWW!! then, i think you do do use the pretty colors. but thats my opinion

  • i think i would pass out if this was any better! thats how good it is! seriously if i saw that in a shop it would be a must buy even if i had only my money for groceries i would buy it lol.

  • The attention to detail is amazing! You look at it when you first started and when you finished and it's amazing the amount of detail you put into it. Amazaing!

  • how long did this actually take you? x

  • @jesstonto 10 hours

  • @portraUK ur awsame jaw drops down.....

  • Hi, its fantastic watching how you create your paintings. I've sat and watched this one along with the the one of "Billy" many times... Could you please tell me do you use many different colours in these 2 paintings or do u try and keep the amount you use to a minimum...... I find when i'm painting i end up with a myriad of colours in front of me. Also, do you always try to work from dark to light ??

Many thanks and will be watching out for more videos in the future...

  • @garysymonds1 i generally work dark to light - twice through - but I flit about a bit in between! I probably use average about 12-15 colours on a single coloured animal. I'm sure it doesn't matter if you use a lot if you're getting the right result. If your colours end up looking muddy on the paper, maybe you should cut down a bit but otherwise I'd say its good. Most of the bad portraits you see are where people haven't used enough colours and it looks very flat and unrealistic.

  • it's beautiful!

    you're really talented :D

  • I absolutely love you video's and am slowly working through!

Can I ask you what type of pastels you use? I have to try them!

Keep up the fantastic work, its excellent :P

  • @liz2porter thanks, I'm glad you like the videos. My hard pastel sticks are Faber Castell. In pencils I have Faber Castell, Schwann CarbOthello and Derwent mostly. i'm not partial as long as they are artist quality, it's the paper that makes the biggest difference to me (I use Fisher 400 sanded)

  • What a beauty! I enjoyed that immensely!

  • Out of this world.....

  • YOU ARE AMAZING !!

  • one word- amazing

  • how much does it cost for you to do a pastel drawing for me?

  • I do enjoy watching you work....it's amazing how it can start off as an outline and then an amazing finished work!!!

  • @killkoff thanks but I'm sure no one would want to sit through ten hours of it in real time, never mind the amount of hard drive space it would use on my very old comp! But I appreciate your comment :)

  • this is incredible! what breed of horse is Cara?

  • can u draw one of my characters? i could send u a link if u tell me how.

  • That is AMazing! It looks real!

  • This is soo amazing dude!!

  • oh i under stand

  • omg i love it!

  • That is ligit amazing. Do you sell your portraits?

  • @ozzieismylover thanks! Yes I paint for a living, and a lot of my work is commissioned portraiture.

  • Your paintings are amazing.

  • Is there any informations or tutorials how to paint that? :) And ofcourse this is wonderfull! :) ♥

  • hey i got a question !what do you color with a oil pastal and what does it mean?

  • @msbetty100 This painting is done with soft pastels, which are very different to oil pastels. I don't actually use oil pastels at all, so I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about them.

  • Wich of those pastels and pastels pencil you used is the best?

  • @Agirlproduction there's not much to choose between them but the colours are all slightly different. It's important to use artists quality materials though or else they can fade.

  • wow! this is amazing! you can hardly tell its drawn! it looks like a picture (you know what i mean! lol)

  • wow beautiful

  • This is beautiful! I love her eye the best. Is there an obvious difference between using pastel pencils and regular pastels? I've used regular pastels before and I'm trying to improve, but I really like how your drawings look- absolutely gorgeous!

  • thanks! pastel pencils are a little bit harder than ordinary round pastels, but the main difference is they're finer, so they make detail work easier

  • your art is amazing! do you have site so i can see more of your work??!!

  • thanks! YouTube won't let me post my web address in comments but it's on my page and also showing on the video. Do visit and have a look round :)

  • This is an AWESOME picture! I wish I could draw like that!!

  • hey where can u buy this pastels???:D

  • the pastels are nothing special, you can get them in any art shop - they're square hard pastel sticks ('Carres') and pastel pencils

  • thanks but i was just in a art shop but nope nothing!!! and you just draw soooooo good i can draw or paint too but not so good without those uhhhm pastels:( DK

  • hmm in that case I can only suggest you try online art shops, I can tell you UK ones but the postage would cost you a bomb. Try a search for Schwann CarbOthello in your country. You could also try Derwent pastel pencils or Faber Castell Pitt Pastels good luck :)

  • oustanding!! this is gorgeous

  • i am amazed.. I never thought pastels could amount to a painting that looks sooo real great job :D

  • Very impressive...

  • You are so inspiring! Keep up the magnificent work!

  • You are amazing at Art!!! I have a quick question too. What is your favorite animal to draw??

  • thanks, I guess horses are my favourite to draw but I love to paint dogs too and all sorts of other creatures (even people!) Love em all!

  • @portraUK r horses your fave animal??any way i love horses:)

  • i see you used a brush did you use some paint or something and where can i get that paper you use? if not that kind what is the best next paper to that which you use? outstanding work.

  • the brush-like tool is a silicon 'colour shaper' for pastel, I don't use any 'wet' type paint at all. The paper is Fisher 400 sanded paper, which is pretty much the only one I use.

  • AWSOME----SAUCE

  • Wordsless

  • That is absolutely breathtaking to say the very least!!!

    LOVELY!!!

    Take Care

    Nicole
