  • Feeling light, relaxed, and like if I had already lived in the district of the video - peaceful

  • pure nostalgia

  • What a beautiful peace of poetry heard by ear

  • The rain makes this video work.

  • Even the most simple thing has it's beauty. The clip makes this work of art more beautiful.

  • Je t'aime...

  • So beautiful!, great music!, great video!, great City!, actually gave my daughter the middle name Angeles after the place!, 10/10.x

  • This Video works somehow in some level.

For me is dedicated to Maria Elias Key.

  • This reminds me of the grid, but calm, suburban, and overcast.

  • To those of you who responded to my post; thank you.

I am sorry my plight saddened you. I was not in LA when I posted - I was in the UK - "Havana Club" is my favourite rum and not a reference to a club in LA!

It is now November, I have picked myself up, am with a FANTASTIC woman, am happy, fulfilled and in love.

The memory of my Ex- remains but it is a warm memory and I wish her nothing but the best.

Our timing was wrong, that is all. I realise that.

    Love to you all.

  • @MattCornish1969 that just made me really happy. im so glad for you :)best of luck and i sincerely hope that you find all your happiness.

  • @hiperson641 - Thanks for your best wishes. Matt

  • The rain makes LA look almost clean...

  • Minimalist? As in, minimal effort?

  • @AlexanderLee1 you could say that. the brain has a funny way of not correlating effort with aesthetic pleasure very well, and unfortunately i can't do much about that. Glass, Reich, Riley, Nyman, would all be in trouble if that weren't the case. but of course, it doesn't do the trick for everyone.

  • @twentyflights Yes. Actually I'm not sure why I wrote that, it just struck me as being a funny term. But sometimes scenes like this are pleasant to look at.

  • @twentyflights

    .....and then again...

It truly does the trick for me.

    Total sum of exertion?

    The click to get here.

  • i think it´s one of my biggest dreams.. To have a house in a small island in the South of Portugal and hear this music under the outside roof the while i´m sitting and drinking a good wine while watching the rain.... or....to have the pleasure to see this vew from this place. Thanks for the moments..... i was not there, but i believe that what i feel is similar to your one... Regards...

  • 13 cats that cannot go outside because they think it is raining

are playing with mice in front of computers somewhere in the world

  • A day that should have rain where I am?

    Can always return here. Thanks!

  • Lovely.

  • Hi, I work for Belgian tv. Could we get your permission to use your film in a cultural documentary about minimalist music? And if so, could you send us a hi-res file of your film? Thank you very much!

    Bertrand Lafontaine

  • I read about this on NPR.org today - the DJ played it on 9/11/2001. Beautiful. Sad.

  • Thank you.

  • The Whole experence is great!

  • "breathless"....richard gere....

  • "Minimalist video"... Well, sometimes the minimum is all you need :)

  • if i have 6 mininute before I die I'll watching this video.

  • This video would make a great ending to a film!

  • The combination of GLASSWORKS with your video is brilliant and hits the audio/visual nail on the head. Having listened to GLASSWORKS for years, it wasn't until I watched your video that I realized that this is the only possible visual for this musical score. Well done. Thank you for putting an image in my mind for a score I've been emotionally attached to for so long.

  • Am I the only person hearing this who thought of Burmecia?

    /watch?v=wf_-OznDQHg&feature=related

  • Definitely provokes something worth feeling for. Inner feelings such as the wonder of beauty and why I'm here. So beautiful.

  • le bonheur a être là dans l'ici et maintenant

leitmotiv vivant et créateur de bonheur de sensations minimalistes

Philipp Glass rend la musique transparente et tranquille

  • this melody combines perfectly with the rainy days!

  • Damn, the ending's cut off (shoot)

  • is there an ortodox cathedral in the center?

  • @stephaniemagritte at least at the time I was in school, it started as a Christian Science church; they left. it then became a Korean Church; they also left. it has since become an Art of Living center. funny how those things change.

  • This piece is fantastic, I can play it on the piano. Philip Glass is a true inspiration.

  • I heard today that the love of my life has married another. I am wallowing in Havana Club and musing upon what might have been.... I came here for solace.

  • @MattCornish1969 Where are ya now? And are there any other good places to drink in LA?

  • @MattCornish1969 This video/song is beautiful but reading your post made me want to cry. I'm sorry.

  • It brings upon me such a beautiful sadness. Thank you so much, very inspiring.

  • Probably my all-time favorite piece of music. Evokes so many feelings...

  • Thank you.

  • Wonderful view

  • Its very pleasant without being too much anything. Such a balanced music.

  • If this were the whole day time lapsed to fit the length of the song that would have been worthwhile, this is not...

  • don't mean to be a hater, but why is this good? it seems a lot of people like this vid but i don't see anything "beautiful" about it

  • @VicensStudios The music can be seen to enhance the mundane aspects of life, such as everyday traffic, and simple wonders of it, such as rain, by giving it more poignancy and importance due to the emotion and weight that it carries.

  • @JimJam1304 Excellent observation.

  • @sectiongang Thank you.

  • @VicensStudios that's cause there's nothing to you. you're as shallow as a kiddy pool.

  • @tjburton1989 I'm not shallow at all, and I didn't mean to be offensive so I apologize if I upset you. I think I just have higher standards of what I call art than you do.

  • @VicensStudios You don't have higher standards, you have different standards. Everybody has their own subjective opinion on what art is. Until an objective view is decided upon (which will ultimately never happen) for things like how to classify beauty for art forms, there will always ultimately be arguments on what is or isn't beautiful. Don't say that you have higher standards though, because you aren't better than anyone else because you don't like this. This is beautiful, just not to you.

  • This is a great example of minimalism.

    Thanks.

And P Glass is the perfect choice.

    ( :

  • is that a photochemical smog? or just clouds?

  • why does this remind me of mad world?

  • nice view.

  • this song is also in richard gere movie "Breathless"

  • 20: so glad to see this still up and so popular!

    A classic.

  • first I saw the rain, and thought it was just an effect over a photo, then I saw the cars... and then I realised the whole photo was alive and moving, how lovely. It was all somehow more interesting than just watching a recording from a window.

  • A tropical cascading rainfall.........

  • yes

  • I'm thinking that doing time-lapse for this video would be nice. I still like the minimalist concept though.

  • Beautiful, emotionally moving combination!

Timeless, as all music of Philip Glass.

    Thank you.

  • what genre of music is this?

  • @marrrrrrks I believe that it is known as 'minimalism', although I could be wrong. My older brother used to play me minimalist music 20 years ago as a kid.

  • you made L.A. beautiful.

  • It's perfect.

  • Your film goes perfectly with this beautiful song! Nice job!

  • I also love how this song is called Opening. When the video and the music starts the city is shrouded in mist and by the end the storm has moved and the city opened up into view.

  • Music like this stretches through time, I could listen to this in the past, present or future and it would never change. And yet I may change but this music will always be moving to me. This is the essense of music.

  • Muito bom!!!

  • lol i found out who philip glass was from south park and i liked the song that south park was playing so i had to look him up

  • I have loved this music ever since the movie "Breathless".

    Haunting, yet soothing.

  • @Marsteef You are so right. Gere and Kaprisky were so beautiful and this song was perfect for the pool scene.

  • pieces of piano like this makes me want to bang my head on the wall for quiting piano lessons when i was little

  • This is so beautiful, wish I could play like this.

  • I listen to this, and it feels like everything makes sense. Everything is beautiful... nothing hurts anymore.

  • Beautiful! Perfect minimalist song, to an amazing minimalist video! ;-)

  • great view, beautiful piece of glass. thanks for posting this.

  • its not about the kind of notes, its the way how he plays them... i like those rhythmical displacements...

  • One of the few pieces by Philip Glass that I actually like. It has some of the same feel as the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

  • good video for the music!

  • FREAKN LOVE THIS!!! would love to learn how to play...ITS AWESOME!!!!

  • That day looks extraordinary. Why in the world was I not there?

  • thank you for this video

  • Music like this makes you really love the rain.

  • Very beautiful vid withe wonderful music. Cheers from France.

  • nice city even with rain... cheers from brussels where rain is routine...

  • This music by Philip Glass was used in a Richard Gere movie from the 1980's.

    It fit very well.

  • video needs an asteroid impacting downtown....

y'know, just feels like this view is waiting for something like that!

    Thanks for posting.

  • Beautiful!

  • @killerjulien

they already are. expand the description.

  • Батя грит малаца, хорошо сделали

  • Wonderful!!!

  • today i discovered phillip glass and my life changed

  • Nice to see southern California wet, with little traffic and unshaken for six minutes.

    Beautiful video and music.

    - Friends from the north.

  • I love Philip Glass and I love rain. It's simply beautiful.

    Thank you

  • It's neat to play with sliding the position of the tracking button on this video

  • Perfect! Exactly the type of day that makes me want to listen to some Glass!

  • I love the video of the rain, great with the simple music.

  • thank you that was very soothing and relaxing. you should do one with a redwood forest and mist or something that would be nice. good stuff tho. keep it up. Phillip glass is a good composer, good pick for your video.

  • The song was great, and so was the video! Oddly enough, this isn't the first the first time I've thoroughly enjoyed just watching cars drive along a short stretch of road.

  • Beautiful! Hey- what part of LA is that? La Brea?

  • University Park, on Jefferson.

  • @twentyflights I didn't know you lived in such a beautiful city. Give the first person you see tomorrow thanks from me, from the world for making LA so amazing.

  • kippevel......heimwee

  • ohhhh

  • excelenteee!; excelent! i love it :')

  • No words to explain the feel of this.

  • You should do another! Love the feel of this, thanks.

  • Absolutely beautiful!! :) ...Wish it was raining here in LA :(

  • amazing, desperation is killing me.

  • Ha, it's raining in LA right now and I just went to find this song on youtube because it's perfect for this weather, and look at this. Nice view :)

  • I love this!

  • Its part of this thing what give You ..

heart beating , flowers growing, sound of sea, and mystery pulse from centre of galaxy.

Its like water on Your face on the morning.

  • Really awesome idea. Thanks.

  • I alos meant to tell twentyflights that this was one helluva great view from that apt. WOW

  • loving

  • Mesmerizing...thanks for posting this!

  • i'm not sure about it but i think this melody is also played in the game Final Fantasy IX when you reach that rainy city (don't know the name of that city because i played it the last time too long ago)

  • The song you are referring to is called "Freya's Theme." Glass's melody, in the beginning, does indeed resemble Uematsu's piano work in that particular song.

  • This is amazing, I love the music and the video is pretty great too. Thanks for posting!

  • love this

  • which city is that?

  • Los Angeles (but I'm not sure)

  • Los Angeles...read the thingy under the picture silly XD

  • beautiful

  • Really great.

Thanks for sharing this, and for having the mind to combine the image with this piece of music. They go so well together.

  • beautiful :)

  • where do you look at? the cloudes or the cars?

  • the music really seems to be opening up!

  • A question- why do you say it won't be available for much longer?

  • it's been tagged as a copyright issue. i'm not sure how long these things take to get "resolved"...

  • @twentyflights

Well, the ones who have to "notify" you would be Philip Glass and the copyright owner for the music. But if you are claiming no profit from the work and you cite the author. Everybody could be sued for using material in papers in college or other venues vor using material.

  • @twentyflights Some of my videos have been tagged too. Some companies are okay with using their material with the link to the song on the page (as is the case here). I've had about three videos taken down by asshole companies :-/ and they were just background music (me talking over it) or my band playing a cover..

  • @twentyflights

Boy were they (copyright holder/licenser) wrong to even consider taking it down or blocking it.

Look at the # of views. Free advertising for them.

  • Bravo!

  • I love Glass, rain, and California, so this is perfect for me.

    Five stars and Favorited.

  • Awesome. What kind of camera are you using here?

  • you would be surprised...it's the movie mode on a Nikon digital camera.

while i'm at it...thanks for all the comments so far. this video with this music may not be available for much longer, which is a shame...i just wanted to share a simple experience on a beautiful, but otherwise normal, day for me. i'm glad so many of you saw the same beauty.

  • Freya.

    From Final Fantasy 9.

    Holy shit.

  • Very nice. In England we rarely see LA in the rain.

  • Man, why was that so hypnotizing?

  • this presentation works very nicely... :)

  • This video is amazing. Today I heard Philip Glass for the first time... I'm glad I found it :)

  • Congratulations...

    and I mean that sincerely.

  • My favorite Glass piece to my favorite season in LA, captured beautifully in a long, wide shot. Brilliant! Thank you!

  • this is strangely gorgeous. i live in LA and it can be hard to see the beauty there sometimes.

  • so peaceful. the rain and grey sky and the cars made it even better.

  • the speed of the cars is perfect. very calming.

  • transcendent and powerful, gentle and perfect. my favorite youtube video to date.

  • love this...

  • I could almost watch the entire video without the music, but the music makes it complete. I love rain, thanks for posting this quirky video. Quirky may be the wrong word, seems a lot of people here like it for the same reasons. Wish it hadn't ended so abruptly!

  • cool view! great music!

  • Wow...

    That's very powerful, well done!

  • i already love this song, but now its got a well framed and sweetly lit video to accompany it. well done.

  • Just brilliant!

  • wow, very elegant. the choice of video was impressive

  • Very nice choice of video, very nice.

  • this is beautiful

  • this music put me to sleep last night absolutly amazing

  • fantasic - philip glass is amazing... the song is so lovely... from the beginning until the end!

  • exact and lucid . wanna soak in that sadness .

  • Great vid! Fooled me by LA being so green!

  • depressing, but beautiful

  • Love the way those thunderous clouds just roll in towards the end. Couldn't have made it more perfect!
