To those of you who responded to my post; thank you.
I am sorry my plight saddened you. I was not in LA when I posted - I was in the UK - "Havana Club" is my favourite rum and not a reference to a club in LA!
It is now November, I have picked myself up, am with a FANTASTIC woman, am happy, fulfilled and in love.
The memory of my Ex- remains but it is a warm memory and I wish her nothing but the best.
Our timing was wrong, that is all. I realise that.
@AlexanderLee1 you could say that. the brain has a funny way of not correlating effort with aesthetic pleasure very well, and unfortunately i can't do much about that. Glass, Reich, Riley, Nyman, would all be in trouble if that weren't the case. but of course, it doesn't do the trick for everyone.
@twentyflights Yes. Actually I'm not sure why I wrote that, it just struck me as being a funny term. But sometimes scenes like this are pleasant to look at.
i think it´s one of my biggest dreams.. To have a house in a small island in the South of Portugal and hear this music under the outside roof the while i´m sitting and drinking a good wine while watching the rain.... or....to have the pleasure to see this vew from this place. Thanks for the moments..... i was not there, but i believe that what i feel is similar to your one... Regards...
Hi, I work for Belgian tv. Could we get your permission to use your film in a cultural documentary about minimalist music? And if so, could you send us a hi-res file of your film? Thank you very much!
The combination of GLASSWORKS with your video is brilliant and hits the audio/visual nail on the head. Having listened to GLASSWORKS for years, it wasn't until I watched your video that I realized that this is the only possible visual for this musical score. Well done. Thank you for putting an image in my mind for a score I've been emotionally attached to for so long.
@stephaniemagritte at least at the time I was in school, it started as a Christian Science church; they left. it then became a Korean Church; they also left. it has since become an Art of Living center. funny how those things change.
I heard today that the love of my life has married another. I am wallowing in Havana Club and musing upon what might have been.... I came here for solace.
@VicensStudios The music can be seen to enhance the mundane aspects of life, such as everyday traffic, and simple wonders of it, such as rain, by giving it more poignancy and importance due to the emotion and weight that it carries.
@tjburton1989 I'm not shallow at all, and I didn't mean to be offensive so I apologize if I upset you. I think I just have higher standards of what I call art than you do.
@VicensStudios You don't have higher standards, you have different standards. Everybody has their own subjective opinion on what art is. Until an objective view is decided upon (which will ultimately never happen) for things like how to classify beauty for art forms, there will always ultimately be arguments on what is or isn't beautiful. Don't say that you have higher standards though, because you aren't better than anyone else because you don't like this. This is beautiful, just not to you.
first I saw the rain, and thought it was just an effect over a photo, then I saw the cars... and then I realised the whole photo was alive and moving, how lovely. It was all somehow more interesting than just watching a recording from a window.
@marrrrrrks I believe that it is known as 'minimalism', although I could be wrong. My older brother used to play me minimalist music 20 years ago as a kid.
I also love how this song is called Opening. When the video and the music starts the city is shrouded in mist and by the end the storm has moved and the city opened up into view.
Music like this stretches through time, I could listen to this in the past, present or future and it would never change. And yet I may change but this music will always be moving to me. This is the essense of music.
thank you that was very soothing and relaxing. you should do one with a redwood forest and mist or something that would be nice. good stuff tho. keep it up. Phillip glass is a good composer, good pick for your video.
The song was great, and so was the video! Oddly enough, this isn't the first the first time I've thoroughly enjoyed just watching cars drive along a short stretch of road.
@twentyflights I didn't know you lived in such a beautiful city. Give the first person you see tomorrow thanks from me, from the world for making LA so amazing.
i'm not sure about it but i think this melody is also played in the game Final Fantasy IX when you reach that rainy city (don't know the name of that city because i played it the last time too long ago)
The song you are referring to is called "Freya's Theme." Glass's melody, in the beginning, does indeed resemble Uematsu's piano work in that particular song.
Well, the ones who have to "notify" you would be Philip Glass and the copyright owner for the music. But if you are claiming no profit from the work and you cite the author. Everybody could be sued for using material in papers in college or other venues vor using material.
@twentyflights Some of my videos have been tagged too. Some companies are okay with using their material with the link to the song on the page (as is the case here). I've had about three videos taken down by asshole companies :-/ and they were just background music (me talking over it) or my band playing a cover..

I could almost watch the entire video without the music, but the music makes it complete. I love rain, thanks for posting this quirky video. Quirky may be the wrong word, seems a lot of people here like it for the same reasons. Wish it hadn't ended so abruptly!
