ok,,,i am ready for my $.50 cents,,,,,, HARLEY AND TRIUMPH ARE GOOD BIKES,,,,BUT DO NO MAKE A MISTAKE ON THIS,,,IF HARLEY IS THE MERCEDEZ BENZ ON THE BIKE WORLDS THEN INDIAN IS THE ROLLS ROYCE. THERE.
Only a wimp or clueless riders rely on electric starts.
The Indian (especially the 1920's scouts are looked upon by many as the finest machine ever to come of of their springfield factory, & many are still in use today, as the trickriders machine of choice on The Wall Of Death.
@DjGaryMillar01 wimp or clueless, hahaha. ya know the choice to own one of these bikes you have to be half rider half mechanic. it takes a love for actually working on them to appreciate them. I like to get on and ride and only tinker when I want to. not when I have to....so I guess I fall into the wimp category. Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, had to laugh at 1:07. Kickstand! I ride a Harley myself, I can't afford a Indian and I'll admit the twin cam looks like the old Chief cam set up.
ultraswg@ yea I agree, I really hit a soft spot with these harley riders, most of them are like liberals, they hate the truth! There the same ones that say the other company's that build a vtwin motorcycle's, copied a hardley turd design!
An Indian that is regulary ridden should start on the 3rd kick (including 2 priming kicks). But most of these old bikes seldom gets ridden...which is sad, because they will take you around the world if properly maintained.
Starting an old style engine like this uses a lot of concentration too because timing is everything. If it was me, after the third unsuccessful kick, I'da shoved that little two stroke up its rider's ass!
@344chief = Ab-so-fuc-kin-lu-te-ly right, fella! Righteous, certain, positively truth. After 17 years in my garage, my 347 still ALWAYS starting at 1st. kick after the usual 2 primin3 kicks.
Many are just expensive ornaments that are used by attention seeking middle aged men, who in their teens most probably never even owned a real motorcycle.
You are right, these machines are normally ultra reliable when properly maintained, I bet most of these guys rely on a specialist when they need a service, & that will only be carried out when the machine finally breaks down on them.

Don't know why you're getting thumbs down. You're right.
Indian made V-Twins in 1903, a couple months before Harley was even around and 6 years before Harley made their first V-Twin, the 45ci Flathead.

That is almost like saying "I would rather rub two stick together to start a fire than use matches or a lighter".

Perhaps - but a well tuned bike "LIKE MINE " kick starts easily ..........
