What do you mean "almost" anywhere? You could smoke in hospitals and on airplanes. Doctor's offices...when I grew up in the 70s and 80s you could smoke anywhere pretty much.

Was this late in the 1965-66 season, or early in 1966-67? I seem to recall it wasn't until about 1966 or '67 that Merv's show went color.  Obviously this was from a black-and-white videotape.
