A friend gave me an old racing bike tonight (it's an Azzura, I'd never heard of it before), and lets say it will need a few hours of TLC, ...including replacing the bar tape.
HEEY !! Very nice tutorial i've been sitting with my tape for 45 minutes and couldent figure out how i made it, and whan i found this video i did it 1st time :D thanks a lot
Should have watched this before rewrapping my bars last night. If you have SRAM levers you need to be careful when doing your figure 8. There's a little nipple on the inside of the hood that goes into a little hole on the plastic part of the break lever. If you cover it up with the tape, your hoods will feel lumpy.
To Thedancingorangutan: The answer is very simple young jedi. Ask any woman wearing a tight skirt why she is wearing a thong underneath and the truth will be known.
Don't mean to troll but why do oyu bother to take the time to cut the end so precisely when you just wrap it up with electrical tape? Just wondering if theres some technical reason. Again, great vid thanks! :]
@Thedancingorangutan Because the bar tape is wider than the electrical tape, so if you didn't cut it, the electrical tape wouldn't cover the whole width of the end of the bar tape and it would look messy.
Just got my first road bike (after years on MTBs) and a priority was to get a better wrap on the bars. I used Ritchey Pro cork tape and using this tutorial got it pretty much bang-on first time. By far the best tutorial I've seen on the subject on YouTube. Thanks!
Wrapping on the top of the bar (after the brake hood) is correct, but I always wrap the drops away form the bars not into the bars as is done here. Away from the bars on the drops is better as it stops the tape unravelling itself. Your hands will push out so the tape is more likely to unravel when done like it is shown here.
As pointed out by HandmadeBikes in another video, the tape should finish at the top by wrapping AWAY from the rider, otherwise hand pressure will slacken and unravel the tape. it will prevent the edges of the tape lifting and rolling as the rider moves from bar center to hoods.
Nice detailed video! Only problem is, try that figure 8 with a Campy hood, and you'll never get the hood back over the brifter body! Shimano hoods are nice and forgiving, making for an easier tape job!
Professionalization is the key good job body.

Awesome touch man! Tip to extra comfort, double or triple tape your bars, that`s what pros do for hard stages!
