In the summer of 1998 I caught two smallmouths in unison on a floating Rapala - brown back/gold belly. I had found a hole just south of Lambertville NJ on the Delaware River and was having some good luck with what were some very aggressive fish. One hit after another, and then as I was pulling my line at one point, I saw that I had two on the line. One was much smaller than the other - probably a 2.5.lbs, and the other a 1+lb.

I think the song is fitting, foreshadowing. Looks fake. I am a huge smallie fisherman and they fight like crazy. No fight in those, glazed eyes on the one. Although it is possible to catch 2 at the same time. I used a donkey rig before and had two 5+ pounders from Lake Simcoe on at the same time but they went in different directions, part of the line snapped and only landed one, but that was to be expected using that rig.

This is definitely possible, I caught two Largemouths at my cabin on the same lure and have a bunch of photos of it. It was on a topwater popper and after seeing the blowup I was expecting a giant bass. Turned out to two bass! One was like 3 pounds, the other like 2. I doubt it will ever happen in my life again though. I can't imagine that with smallies seeing as they fight SO hard!
