Alot of things in this video surprised me! Like India will have the most babies in 9:30.. thats alot of crying! But it also kinda scares u too..with the creepy music in the backround...
What's mind-boggling about this video is that China will become the #1 English speaking nation in the world. This is a country that English is NOT even their primary language. How can that be? Well... English in China and other Asian countries are taught to children from day 1.
Aye. So true. Students really do need to learn how to handle mass amounts of information. Right now I'm in the military learning to be proficient in the Korean language in 64 weeks, something a typical college student would've spent about 8 years doing. I was woefully unprepared so it is something that must change in our future youth. Technology is expanding exponentially, so humans as well must also expand at a similar rate.
how can you force people to prepare for the unexpected... when the human brain can only take so much information? it is true that some people are capable of digesting and then processing information easily but it doesn't mean that everyone is capable of it. some people are genarally smarter even if they work for it or not... there are a lot of uncertainties but in the end, with global warming and all, we'll probably all die before our brains have to cope with the infinite amount of information.
A defeatist attitude is prevelant in the US students of today. Makes me wonder if the teachers are teaching 'defeatism' rather than the Hard Sciences'. Politics and legalistics seems to be the 'major' in US schools. The educators carrying a poor self image based on the 'Someone else is at fault' syndrome. really need to be in a profession that gives them more self esteem. As a student of such teachers, humor them and let them believe they have succesfully brainwashed you. Get your degree.
actually, from what I've seen (as a student), it's not defeatism that's being taught, it's ignorance. not that it's being taught, but that no one really seems to care; no one knows.
If the number of honor students in China and India exceeds the population of the United States then we're screwed...what are we going to do? Elect John McCain and just start bombing people?
LAWS and more Laws to stop business. Next generation USA, You want a job? Where are you going to work? Actually may I suggest 'Dubai'. Of course you will require an education to work there so stay in school and study very hard, your future quality of life will depend on it. Leaching off the past generation is about over. Congress is about to remove the wealth from 'Your' taken for granted, free ride. Inheritance is now 'TOAST' get used to it.
...So giong school is good? If you not one of the 2 people that the school elect is the smartest one than you F... You think a bachelor degree can get you a job now? Company only need who are well experience in the field so that they can pay them cheaper than a bachelor degree...
Communist China was not doing well until it embraced Capitalism. It is also allowing the influence of Christianity...Hmmm? Other things China is doing correctly, they do not attack industry or it's business innovators or attempt to Tax them into oblivion through the legislative courts system...All things the USA is presently endorsing through it's legalistic Congress of lawyers on top of lawyers including even the next 'media loved' presumed administration and president.
this is amazing. the world is changing one bit at a time... theres new things and better things out there..and that thought is just astonishing. United States in my thought has it made. we're still getting everything from china either way..
They put this on in our school assembly and the room was dead silent... that and the fact that the screen we were watching it on was 5 metres wide and 6 metres high with the music as loud as it would go made us all really serious...
The look of awe on everyone's faces set us all laughing after xD
Honestly, if you come into my school tomorrow you will the type of idiots that are going to fill our empty jobs. In my honors classes we have kids who can't hold a conversation about current events or new technologies. The funny thing is we are one of the highest ranked public schools in the country. I can see why China and India are taking our jobs.
guynamedjames. There is no hard data comparing American and Chinese I.Q.s? "In the most complete international study of schooling ever conducted, U.S. high school seniors ranked near the bottom in math and science, reflecting what educators call a crisis in American education."
Third International Mathematics & Science Study (TIMSS)
And you might like to know that there is no correlation between geography and intelligence.
wtf? high frequency ringtones for chicken buckets? I don't entirely understand KFC's strategy here.
Also, the part about China having more honor students than we have children assumes that their education system is up to par, which I assume it is not. There is really no reason to make that comparison because their is no real hard data comparing I.Q.'s of Americans and Chinese.
Ok, that's a lot of good input, but take into consideration that we have only been using 10% of our brains, according to scientists. We need to tap into the other 90%! Problem solved!! Figure that one out folks!
guys and people look at 1:33 well of course all of us video watchers know what youtube is right? also about the labor in china CHINA IS DOING FINE WITH THIS LABOR AND THEY ARE HALF COMMUNIST WHAT DOES THIS MEAN ABOUT THIS COMMUNISUM IS BAD??????????????????????? :/ THIS IS A HEAD SCRATHCER
why do we need more scientists? they are good at what they do which is discovering things but they are terrible at making predictions. for example, when america got nagasaki and hiroshima scientists predicted that would be the end of mankind, when bird flu came along, it was predicted hundreds of thousands would die all over the world and the same with BSE. these predictions were all made by scientists so we dont need more scientist throwing stupid predictions around
Are you serious? Okay fine, lets send all the scientists away, they are obviously not doing anything productive for mankind. Obviously, they are ruining the world with their stupidity, and we would be much better off without technological advances, chemical and biological research and medical science, because then we wouldn't have to listen to the scientists "stupid predictions". All scientists must die!
wow. that really makes you think about how we need to address the ever more demanding world. I believe we should weed out the unusefull information in order to catch up. Coming from a student in junior high, we need to know what really matters.
Chinese highschool is like college in the U.S, they have to pass a test just to get in their own highschools, but the difference is college is their time to relax and have fun. where in the U.S its just the opposite. And without science how will we ever find the cure for cancer? Learn to treat things faster and more efficiently? Think about that
That's all nice and all, but quoting facts that will probably have completed changed in 2 years without suggesting a solution is pointless.
Saying we need to teach kids to deal with massive amounts of information is ridiculous. What we need to do is teach kids how to find the talents they possess and then teach them how to use those talents can help society as a whole.
Education in the USA has become all about making money, it's no longer about educating the future generation. We need to look at the education system in the US and compare it to the rest of the world. We need to teach our children how to pick a field and quickly become specialists in those fields. Focus on what a child is good at, instead of teaching them useless information simply so someone can line their pockets. Specialists are needed, Jack-Of-All trades are not.
10 TRILLION Bits per second!!!! holy crap! 1'000'000'000'000 X 10 = 10'000'000'000'000 which is: 1250000000000 Bytes per second or 1220703125 Kilo Bytes(KB) per second or 1192092.8955078125 Mega Bytes(MB) per second or 1164.15321826934814453125 Giga Bytes per second or 1.136868377216160297393798828125 Tera Bytes per second JUST IN ONE SINGLE STRAND OF FIBER OPTIC CABLE!!!!
well, if they tried to destroy the USA economy with a few rasor blades, that mean that we are not prepare for anything, and when I go to the grocerie store I can see that most people are stupid, they look numb
I saw this at the NETA conference. What a great summation of the need to change the traditional educational process. This information will forever change how I teach. Thanks for posting it Howie!
Missing key technical point, IN 1 YEAR new form compression is coming, able to COMPRESS 4.5 GB dvd into 1.7k ......... Models and GAST are going to bend math and time and space... YOUR models are wrong.
This video leaves me in awe of the human race. We've all come from simple hunters to incredibly intelligent, unique, and complex beings that possess the ability to use language, be creative, research, and simply think.
Just sit back, and admire it all. You are part of an incredible species, one that I for one believe is created in the image of God.
- Silly question given that the you and I are watching the video on You Tube, I know it was originally meant to be only seen by a few at a university, but by now the target audience is via You Tube.
yeah, but this particular vid wasn't modified for Youtube audiences. they still haven't mde a special "for YouTube only" version; maybe later they will
The original version was produced by Karl Fisch. My versions 2,3 and now 4 are all educational versions.... Karl was notified of the changes and fully approved the additional slides-data and updates that I have made.
lol, im 15 and i wish w had a class for dealing with massive ammounts of info, global communication, and be self-directed in my own learning. i already cannot keep up with this flood of information comming st me in 2008.
Note that it does not say "intellectual power", it refers to "computational power." That is the potential to compute more, not think on the same intellectual level. Though we're likely not far off from that, either.
Most of this technology is out of date in 6 to 9 months... homes are full of all the outdated stuff... You figure a way to get it to you w/o costs to us and you'll get plenty it at your costs...
I am an Ethiopian and i am currently studying in Finland. It is such a shame that the people in my country who are so hungry to learn are not even blessed with a text book while the young people in the developed countries are virtually throwing away their "unlimited resources". Only if one was able to see beyond his one dimensional self, things would be so different. Education for all and happy valentine's day.
No, he doesn't want you to throw it away. He thinks we are throwing it away (and I agree with him) and we should start appreciating the resources we have.
Only thing here I have to say is anyone with such luxury would throw it away. The poor are driven by their plight to succeed, but we have no such motivation.
ridiculous... come on, could we be more dramatic... like we really just cant go on without being totally technology savy and up to date... like what people in third world countries need is LAPTOPS????? what the hell is the world coming to?
The good news.... this wont continue, and you can bet on that!
you really think that at the rate that resources are being consumed, this kind of "growth" can continue? we will have much larger issues than "keeping up" with the latest in technology. oh... and here's a place for you... africa... yeah, their technology worries are number 1 priority. we need to spend less time worrying about the latest trends in technology and more time worrying about issues that actually matter... like our fellow human beings
Queendrabee... it isn't that there aren't LOTS of very important things to consider in our lives and in our future; it's that "progress" and "technology" don't tend to slow down because you or anyone else thinks something else should be a higher priority. many of us DO concern ourselves with "our fellow human beings" and for all of my 62+ years, those concerns have done very nice things for our fellow human beings and have not slowed down technology's advances one bit. apples and oranges.
I respect and agree with your comment... but what gets me so concerned is the idea of sending laptops to children in developing countries. This is certainly not the answer to their problems. Not to mention, i wonder how many people this video, has been forwarded to. I dont remember the last time i was sent a video about the horrors that are going on around the world and a suggestion about what could be done by us as individuals. Im not saying technology isnt a problem, its just not no. 1
thank you and respect back to you... ------ also, please consider this: when china began its headlong rush from the 18th century into the 20th, we've seen tons of bad things happen there [as well as thousands of dead pets in the US resulting from the new china's version of "capitalism." -------- what's also happening is that wages in china have gone up 45% or more in the past few years. ------ laptops in africa can also show people there some of the good side of us and counter lies about us.
My teacher showed my 6th period class this video and since we're in honors, we understood. at my school we use laptops, and i'm in seventh grade. It's difficult to imagine the world in 10 years, everybody knows its coming. : (
Great statistics. What do we learn from it? Possibly that change is one of the few constants and further, that the pace of change will probably continue to accelerate as time goes on. So what can we do? Probably scrap our old methods of learning (the traditional school system, including the traditional college education) and re-focus on teaching/learning success from those who actually have achieved success in some area of life and perhaps learning how they think differently from the rest.
Great comments by 5yankee4. There are some of us out here who are taking advantage of this trend and others who are just going to watch and still others who will say in ten years what happened. You are correct, it will take vastly different thinking to be successful in the future. What are (you) doing to impact your life and others in the next five years? Thanks again.
I'm starting to make a profound impact on the information age. I have launched a webserver at the age of 14. I just turned 15. Just think of it - Teenagers with their own webservers. What a dream that just may come true, or may already be true!! I personally program in C++, HTML 4.0, XML 1.0, learning Actionscript, and I also know CSS v1.0.
Even I cannot believe how far I'm outdated with the computer programming languages. My goals are set with computer hardware engineering though :)
Im 12 and have done some HTML and CSS work but nothing further than basic website programming.
but yeah, the thought of 2010!!
teenagers woudl probably like take over, because i know ALOT of adults that are complete Luddites and so when the age comes where everything is technology i think that the younger population will be more dominant, wat an...extreme thought that would be!
Thanks for your sharing. I thought that the data are correct and all of us need to accept the fact. This is a trend.
Face the shift, the essential is our focus, like honest, integrity, humble, not tools or skills. Otherwise, we will lose ourself in these new technologies
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. We need to wake up, stop spending our money on war and focus on our children's future. I'm forwarding the video to all my elected officials they need a good slap in the face.
The question is not, "Why isn't the government (they) doing something about this." The real question is, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOU IT? I mean like you, personally. How are you impacting the world for the better?
i don't step on grass(where i see the signs) and i throw garbage in the appropriate places. and i taught my dog to crap on paper sheets that bear Osama's face.
I am an architectural software consultant and i serve on the board of committees for a vocational school. I first learned of this video at one of our meetings and to be quite honest it brought me to tears when I thought of my three boys and how under educated they will be by the time they graduated. Please keep posting videos like this when they are relevant. i pass them on to friends, family and colleagues all over the world. P.S. please tell me the artist and/or composer for the music.
Why does this vid breed such Negativism? I view it as a Positive opportunity of unimaginable proportions. Get an education in The 'Hard Sciences' and the Universe is within your grasp. daflikkers.blogspot
its amazing how quickly the humance race will be screwed if the world leaders dont get off their ass and start recognising the fact that the young people of today will not be able to support society as we foresee it to be in 15 - 20 years
did you know garbage, a lack af fresh water will be the final cry of man as he withers away to dust the movie walle is just a precuser to what is but a moment away

What's mind-boggling about this video is that China will become the #1 English speaking nation in the world. This is a country that English is NOT even their primary language. How can that be? Well... English in China and other Asian countries are taught to children from day 1.
mercyhurstchic 3 years ago
Aye.

Blogengezer 3 years ago
actually, from what I've seen (as a student), it's not defeatism that's being taught, it's ignorance. not that it's being taught, but that no one really seems to care; no one knows.

Of course you will require an education to work there so stay in school and study very hard, your future quality of life will depend on it. Leaching off the past generation is about over. Congress is about to remove the wealth from 'Your' taken for granted, free ride. Inheritance is now 'TOAST' get used to it.

And you might like to know that there is no correlation between geography and intelligence.
kramyeria 3 years ago 2
wtf? high frequency ringtones for chicken buckets? I don't entirely understand KFC's strategy here.
Also, the part about China having more honor students than we have children assumes that their education system is up to par, which I assume it is not. There is really no reason to make that comparison because their is no real hard data comparing I.Q.'s of Americans and Chinese.
guynamedjames 3 years ago
Ok, that's a lot of good input, but take into consideration that we have only been using 10% of our brains, according to scientists. We need to tap into the other 90%! Problem solved!! Figure that one out folks!

why do we need more scientists? they are good at what they do which is discovering things but they are terrible at making predictions. for example, when america got nagasaki and hiroshima scientists predicted that would be the end of mankind, when bird flu came along, it was predicted hundreds of thousands would die all over the world and the same with BSE. these predictions were all made by scientists so we dont need more scientist throwing stupid predictions around
YaDad23 3 years ago
Are you serious? Okay fine, lets send all the scientists away, they are obviously not doing anything productive for mankind. Obviously, they are ruining the world with their stupidity, and we would be much better off without technological advances, chemical and biological research and medical science, because then we wouldn't have to listen to the scientists "stupid predictions". All scientists must die!
guynamedjames 3 years ago 3
are u dumb, i said why do we need more, not get rid of them

wow. that really makes you think about how we need to address the ever more demanding world.

What we need to do is teach kids how to find the talents they possess and then teach them how to use those talents can help society as a whole.
qurgh 3 years ago
Education in the USA has become all about making money, it's no longer about educating the future generation. We need to look at the education system in the US and compare it to the rest of the world. We need to teach our children how to pick a field and quickly become specialists in those fields. Focus on what a child is good at, instead of teaching them useless information simply so someone can line their pockets. Specialists are needed, Jack-Of-All trades are not.

It is said in the video that by 2013 a "supercomputer" will be build that exceeds the capability of the human brain.
Question: The human brain has the capability of infinitive storage/memory/etc. How can you get more than that?
(The only reason why we can not access this capability is because we have emotions to deal with just btw ;) )

Note that it does not say "intellectual power", it refers to "computational power." That is the potential to compute more, not think on the same intellectual level. Though we're likely not far off from that, either.

Nice vid, but i think the first one is better.

Queendrabee 4 years ago
Boy ....you really don't get it. Good luck finding a place where you can find this not 'continuing'.
noseyman4 4 years ago
you really think that at the rate that resources are being consumed, this kind of "growth" can continue? we will have much larger issues than "keeping up" with the latest in technology. oh... and here's a place for you... africa... yeah, their technology worries are number 1 priority. we need to spend less time worrying about the latest trends in technology and more time worrying about issues that actually matter... like our fellow human beings
Queendrabee 4 years ago

Queendrabee 4 years ago
thank you and respect back to you...

5yankee4 4 years ago
