I like this track, but I still can't believe this was by Queen! A certain online encyclopedia says that all the instruments on this track were played by (bassist) John Deacon, which might account for the "feel" of it
you can't not sway back and forth and bob ur head...... Whoever says hot space sucks FUCK YOU!!! This album is just as good as every other album- and it was sooo ahead of its time and risky- queen had balls- we should appreciate this record even more because of that
@ballroomblitzkid1994 prince'd have more tricks in his bag, w/ nonstop, unpredictable embellishment on his vocal styling: adore, somewhere here on earth. the guy's steeped in jazz, funk, soul many lifetimes over, compared to Cool Cat, which is really beginner's steps into the genre but coasts on extremely finessed intuition and talent. queen didn't have much access tho. john deacon cowriter of cool cat, only got up to speed taping off of radio on '76 american tour, when RnB blew up.
@ballroomblitzkid1994 & in terms of the shrill & "camp", to generalize a bit much, prince is closer to little richard and a few evolutions/removes from the dramatics of "gone to church". freddie is a pretty crazy mix of liza, early led zep, his interest in ballet/theater/opera aesthetics (not exact technique or discipline), & lots of his personal whatevers:P wonder what Prince would sound like having a go at Freddie's version of See What a Fool I've Been!?
I don't know... this song didn't really do it for me. It was alright and I love Queen, it's just that this song didn't really resonate with me. Someone suggested I look this song up. It's alright, but in my opinion there are better songs out there.
This is one of the things that I most appreciate about Queen. They can do hard rock...they invented rock opera...they can do rockabilly, pop, anthems, ballads and they are the only rock band that I know of that can do all of the aforementioned styles PLUS funk/R&B. I challenge ANYONE to top that. This song is fantastic. Hot Space is a great album! I admire that Queen was willing to try new things and different genres. Brilliant!
@iamcasihart EY, Hi. I wish I knew what does tapping on the toe with a new hat mean? Can you help me please. I am from different country and I am not able to understand it. Please help me with that. I´ve been googling too.
@FRECOZUM To be honest, I haven't a clue what "tapping on the toe with a new hat" means. It assume that it is "slang" for something. If you figure it out, let me know! :-)

Thanks for doing this and putting the lyrics on too ... takes me back years, I used to love listening to Freddie sing this, I though I was so sophisticated ! It just demonstrates that he's got a great voice. I wonder what it would have sounded like if Roger had sung it ?
This song is not the great thing structurally, but what really makes it catchy and special is undoubtedly Freddie's versatile vocals, there is where the magic on this track is...Long live Freddie and Queen!!
People go on about how crap 'Hot Space' was, but I quite like it - something different and Queen rock any music genre they play, because they're all great musicans.
'Back Chat', 'Action This Day' and 'Staying Power' weren't that great on the studio recording, it has to be said. But when the boys played them 'Live at the Bowl', they rocked the hell out of them!
People who don't like Hot Space just concentrate on 1 style of music. A wise man knows that all types of music (except things that nobody can call music really) are good, just depending on the artist. Queen is absolutely fantastic, so they make every style of music good. Heh.
@luneproducts This was played in some black stations back in the day LOL This is definitely r&b / funk. It sounds like it was produced by the BEE GEES! ;-)
I love it when people say something sucks -- especially without saying why. It reveals maturity, wisdom and intelligence. But seriously, if it speaks to you -- great. If it doesn't, at least say why. My favorite Queen song. G'day.
@Eripsni45 Right on. This song has soul...ya dig? ;-) John Deacon is a brilliant songwriter, in my opinion. All of the songs that he wrote have distinct R&B/Funk influence. I really do respect and admire that...especially coming from a "rock band." Not to mention, Freddie's vocals on this rival that of Prince. Love it!
it doesn't with listening to music but with ur low iq it does if you didn;t get what i mean. it's just ur lame oppinon about this song so keep it for yourself.
I did listen to this song and it fucking sucks, I love Queen, but lets face it, this is one of their only bad songs, go listen to Dead on Time, Prophet's Song, Brighton Rock, It's a Hard life, March of the Black Queen, etc. etc. etc. That is real Queen music.

body language and back chat are good the bad songs on hot space is calling all girls and staying power which both failed to chat. songs that fail to chart even if its a single the song will suck!
first, its hard to understand what you're saying in that sentence. What charts/hits absolutely doesnt dictate how good an album is. AND I DONT think calling all girls or staying power was released to chart.
I havent heard tjhis song for a few years and straight away the middle 8 in this song reminds me of 'Mary' by the Scissor Sisters. Anyone see the similarities?
