J.B. Hunt and Swift tend to get a lot of bad publicity. Some of it is deserved, some isn't. They are very large companies and some drivers deride them for that reason only. The large trucking company I've seen hire incompetents over the years is USA Truck. They have a deplorable safety record.
The deal with swift is:they hire alot of new(never driven a mile)drivers.Since swift has over 20.000+ trucks and new drivers they have the most accidents. The one unfair thing about swift is that they are to quick to put a driver on the D.A.C report.D.A.C is a company that trucking companies use to blacklist drivers.Once they are on D.A.C,any other company that utilizes D.A.C will not hire that driver ever.So incredibly unfair.D.A.C should be made illegal.D.A.C should be sued out of existance.
also they should have cut the trailer up for scrap metal it isnt repairable maybe the parkway needs to put poles before the ramps so trucks cant proceed .....
thats a subcontractor/owner operator jb hunt farms a lot of freight out to them because its cheaper.
as for the jbhunt/swift driver comment like another user said jb hunt and swift both have very bad hiring practices and terrible training programs they dont care who sits in that seat because the pay newbies 0.25/mile thats sad for pay! when you put all these factors together this accident is what you get!
@crazeenydriver that was more of a slideshow than a video, but it was interesting with the narration and all. You gotta feel a bit bad for the driver, looks like an owner operator. That doesnt appear to be a JB Hunt tractor. It sustained damage as well.
I also blame the city of NY they will post a sign no trucks on parkways etc. but they post them a block away from the entrance then what is a driver supposed to do its to late to turn around or find a big street to go down because the sign is right there at the on ramp. The driver should know how to read a map, get a TRUCKERS gps, ask his or her fellow drivers about the best way to get around the area there going to and becareful.
To answer your question, the J.B. Hunt / Swift thing is a real easy answer. LACK OF PROPER TRAINING, that, and the fact if you can fog a mirror and sort of half ways speak or read English, YOU'RE HIRED!! Simple as that.
SWIFT AND JB HIRES THESE WOMEN TRUCKERS TO FILL QUOTAS AND THIS IS THE OUTCOME, I FOUND OUT THIS ACCIDENT THAT YOU POSTED WAS DRIVEN BY SOME STUPID WOMAN DRIVER, IT MAKES ME SICK THAT THEY HIRE THEM ONLY BECAUSE THEIR FEMALE, THESE WOMEN ARE PUTTING OUR LIVES ON THE LINE HERE.THIS IS ONE OF THE JOBS THAT SHOULD NOT HIRE WOMEN THEY DONT HAVE THE SKILLS THAT ALL MEN HAVE. ENOUGH SAID
WHY ARE YOUR BRIDGES UNDER 14' ? WHY? maybe because you dont know how build them, you get stupid after 10? Why are your bridges under 80,000 ? Maybe you dont know how build bridge? You dont see this problem on major roads down South. Tear all that old shit you have up there down. set charges to it implode it like building 7 New York, vedio of it
Jb hunt and swift like to hire new drivers so they can pay them less. Newer drivers are more likely to do this. My opinion is it is better to stop than hit a low bridge. They may get a ticket, but an accident is avoided. To all new drivers out there, if you are not sure about an overhead clearance, put the four way and stop. People might shoot fingers at you for being an idiot, but hey you get to keep on trucking. I know someone who killed to people in a car when his flatbed load hit a bridge.
JB swift and schnider are large companys , so their one % of bad drivers is more obvious than the company with 20 drivers , I have had a lot of drivers tell me those are good companys to work for I just prefer wild cat , I make more and rule my own roost .
there is no reason for this driver to lose his license. the city and state are responsible for not designing a device that keeps large trucks off this parkway, not doing so shows they are only enforcing for the money and not safety. a metal frame like those in parking lots would prevent any vehicles too large from entering the parkway. dude was probably lost & took a wrong turn at the last moment. traffic in nyc is very intimidating.
JB Hunt and Swift drivers are usually younger or newer drivers attempting to make a name for themselves... so of course less experience and more to prove equals greater risks and less risk management.
@MattPerk7 Ever think they are usually guys who want to start a career that will provide their wife and kids a better life than working at a minimum wadge job? No one is trying to prove anything. Although I never went to either company I been driving 5 years and I still have no accidents, no tickets, never been pulled over. I never once though "I got something to prove!".
@BornBW Perhaps you didn't, but most of us younger guys are trying to prove to our bosses that we're worth more than we're making right now and we do things that we aren't expected to do in hopes of getting raises and positions that will better enable us to provide for our families.... but maybe you just aren't that way.
yeah, thats not a JB truck, who he drives for, if hes a contractor for JB, I dont know. I worked for Swift however, for 10 years. What I can say is this. Swift, JB, England and some others generally target drivers right out of school, or hire people with no experience and send them to their own school. Its really not a company issue, its just a lack of experience. The fact that you see more of it from Swift and JB is because theyre the largest companys in the nation. Its statistics..
I have almost made the mistake of getting on this Parkway. I had just started my turn when I noticed the sign and a bridge. It may not have been this location. As I had a few cars behind me that wouldn't back up (I only needed 20 to 30 feet) I had to wait for an officer to arrive to give assistance in getting the cars to move. That was 4 years ago, I have not been back into NYC since. I am an owner-operator and was in my fourth year driving at that time. It takes a special person to drive there
Well J.B Hunt was one of the first Trucking Companies to take on Student driver along with Swift so of Course with the Accidents that go along with Student Drivers comes the reputation that those companies got .
32 years of trucking and two of the biggest jokes for years has been JB and Swift because they were both big companies known to hire the rookies other companies didn't want and because their names made for jokes as H U N T you change the H to the 3rd letter of the alphabet or Swift because "they ain't so Swift" yada yada yada! You also remember them when they are in a ditch or hauling a bridge! That was the "old days" and the jokes are getting worn out for us old hands.
@elisaannh And all those big assed signs say so but why read a big assed yellow sign with big black letters and some with yellow flashing signs not th mention the smaller signs on and before that 10' tall bridge that even women of the blond persuasion can tell that 13' tall truck won't make! Yeah trucking isn't quite brain surgery but it's not that freaking hard to read simple English! OOOPS, that's the problem, we're discriminating against all non English speakers! Well change the signs NYC!
@Cyndi35 Turn off the GPS is the first rule Cyndi! Get your directions from dispatch. THEN verify them to your GPS if you must AND against the Rand McNalley in the front is a list of all restricted roads in America. But call the shipper and receiver! They USUALLY know how truckers get to them! Want more info? 3w's.thetruckersreport. com I am Rollover the Original 32 years experience and now disabled and I give trucking tips and info along with many others and of course the trolls!
I have taken a load into NYC, and I can see how this happened. I almost did the same thing, but when I saw the big sign that said "no commercial vehicles", I exited, and pulled over until I was instructed on how to properly get to Long Island. Feel bad for the guy, his dispatcher probably told him to keep going as mine did, I said no fucking way.
JB HUNT,Stands for....John Boy Has Us Niggers Trucking. The best reading in truck stops is the men's room toilet paper dispencers most have JB HUNT DRIVER LICENCE DESPENCERS. I started driving in 1988 JB came to my school in Philly. They were offering 18 cents a mile for sole driver, and 11 for TEAM. Swift was about the same. Think how many miles you have to drive to make$750.00 week. First job I was offered paid 47cents a mile,& $25.00 a dock. My first check was for $2,300.00 bucks, lots of docks
I drove NYC Taxi cab and worked as a limousine driver for ten years. Became a trucker myself when I moved to Canada. This is 100% drivers fault. The only things truckers must learn that in NY when ever it says PARKWAY, it is not for the trucks. When ever it says EXPRESSWAY, sure go for it. A matter of fact a lot of Newyorkers don't know this.
A driver must attend a good CDL tractor trailer driving school. Then join a company that will give him additional on the road training. He must pay attention to signs.Learn how to read a map.
Sheet rock in a dry van? usually they haul sheet rock on a flatbed so that they can load/unload from the side of the trailer. A lot of building suppliers don't even have docks. I ran sheet rock for nearly a year when I ran flatbed.
There are idiots in every position of every company. The bigger the company, there's probably more idiots. All there is too it. Doesnt mean all people working for that comapny are the same.
Regardless of the way JB Hunt and Swift drive, IMO they are large corporations that only care about profit, and if it means screwing over the driver or the American people to do it, they will. That is why these large trucking corporations support virtually everything the DOT hands down to us. (I.E.CSA2010) It saves on insurance. Insurance companies really run Hunt and Swift. As for screwing the driver, ask a Hunt driver how much they allow him to idle his truck when it's cold or hot out.
If you call a JB Hunt or Swift dispatch office you are dealing with a numbskull who has ABSOLUTELY no experience behind the wheel. I've never worked for wither one of these companies but I did come close to working with JB Hunt one time. When I asked if any of the people who would be my dispatchers had any OTR experience I was told that wasn't necessary. I decided never to work for them after that little talk. To cut out most of the bad things that happen like this get experienced dispatchers!!
Well, the reason JB Hunt and Swift get such a bad rap is because they hire drivers with no where near the experience they need to drive New York City and North Jersey. I don't believe we resent the drivers as much as we do the companies they work for. They knowingly send these drivers down in there who have no experience with NYC. Why is that? Because their dispatches have ZERO driving experience themselves and only care about getting the freight down in there and screw everything else.
@dudemeisterSC - I'm a local tractor-driver out of PA. I'm familiar with this area, besides the HUGE sign coming off the Whitestone that says "NO COMMERCIAL VEHICLES - LOW BRIDGES" -- The absolute law in NYC is very simple if you're a trucker EXPRESSWAYS NOT PARKWAYS, it's on signs coming into NYC.
Ok why the bad rap on Swift and JB Hunt? During the 80's and 90's they were the so called welfare companies in that they trained A LOT of drivers...A LOT. As a result they were kind of referred to as training companies. if you want to drive 18 wheeler, thats where you got started. Nothing wrong with that at all. But as percentage of driver to student ratio makes your accident rate go up, by having more students, they stand out more. More trainees up the rate. I think JB stopped training though.
The short answer to your question about jb hunt and alike....Shitty outfits that hire under qualified drivers MOST of the time.A lot are from european countries and know just enough english to ask for directions. This has been my personal observation/ experience. I'm a driver with 31 years of safe driving experience, and I drill it into my wifes head to STAY AWAY FROM jb hunt, werner, us exress, schneider, covanent, and others!
@schoolgirlscaptain you was wrong man! I agree with you some of them can't speak English well like you. They can't speak English well but they can read very good.
The law needs you understand and act more er than you talk(OTR truck driver)
Bad or good is depend on your attitude,habit,character.....
You speak English good but you don't have any above the accident is it won't come ?
That has been a long going joke. Same as the Roadway Manuels years ago. It`s just truckin lingo. If it wasn`t for Swift and JBHunt it would be someone else..Grin
the deal with JB and swift and other carriers of their size is their size easy to spot and the little companys always think they are stealing their loads they dont they can afford to bid on the loads in the lower price range because of the shear volume of drivers.
Remember that just because there is a JB Hunt trailer on the back of a truck doesnt mean that they are JB HUnt drivers they have whats called vendors ( Owner Operators) like in this case please get your facts right. if the driver would have read the signs before getting to the bridge or get on ramp he wouldnt be in the situation he's in.
I've seen a few on the NSP where trucks accidentally end up scraping their tops off at the low, arched masonry bridges. Rookie drivers mainly learning big lessons.
The deal with dissing swift trucks is they have there own trucking schools through the company that have over filled classes and run the students through like an assembly line. Half of them are no where near ready for the road. I witnessed an examiner on test day pass an elderly lady student even have she jack knifed the truck while doing the serpintine backing. The range instructor I had stayed inside the office eating twinkies and reading the paper and checking out the window while we practice
How did he end up there...... Probably cause some ignorant F$#@ cut him off and forced him to go that way cause people in NYC are ignorant selfish drivers. All you idots care about is yourselfs and where your going screw the next guy.
Ive been driving a truck for around 20 years now Swift and J.B. Hunt have a bad rap for 2 big reasons 1 they are 2 of the biggest trucking companies in from what Ive learned I believe the world and people do not say no they arent it is fedex or ups or something they are NOT trucking companies. ok reason 2 both of these companies look for rookie drivers it has been awhile sence ive checked up on jb but they are training companies and there are so many new guys not everyone gets needed attention.
im not a jb hunt driver nor am i a swift driver but i deleave that they have a bad rap cause they are 2 of the top 10 largest companys out there and when you have as many drivers as they have they tend to look for any1 to drive for them evenif they arnt train as long as they should be and no thats not a jb hunt tractor but i bet that driver did lose his cdl for life
Thanks for making the video, As a former trucker, I'll explain to you why this happens so often in NYC, In most cities such as Washington DC a truck can get away with using parkways eventhough it's still against the law because the bridges are plenty high enough. when traffic is really bad truckers are tempted to use them becasu they are generally much easier to use than going though downtown. Ofcourse in NYC the parkways have low clearances and Wham!
well, jb hunt doesnt get raged upon much anymore, but swift still does, because they hire anybody to drive a truck, they dont care about the driver. because they know they can put fear into them, plus that new driver doesnt know any better. also the hiring of drivers by the big carriers still remains a problem. the problem you see here will keep happening, no matter what the city of new york does
this is not a jb hunt driver if you look at the name of the trucking co on on the truck's door you would see it was not a jb hunt company driver nor its it a o/o leased to jb hunt it is how ever a jb hunt trailer that will give you
the tractor use to be a Sitton Motor Lines truck before they went under in 2009. I know this because i drove for them. As far as the it be a JB Hunt driver he or she is a JB Hunt driver no matter whether there a company truck or a contractor truck. they are still representing JB Hunt by pulling there trailers.
I am a JB Hunt driver and the description, posted by yet another ignorant, biased idiot who knows not what he speaks of. Yes, the TRAILER is a JB Hunt TRAILER. The TRACTOR is CLEARLY NOT a JB Hunt power unit! It is a contractor! It would be really nice if people would not post derogatory crap that leads to a stereotype of a certain group of people or company etc. JB Hunt, while we do have a few bad drivers, maintains a safety record in the top three in the trucking industry.
@nyvet48tfw thank you. i think the people doing this crap. ( the wreck for example. rely too heavily on a gps. which will tell him/her to take this exit or whatever. would liek to ask, how common was this type of occurence before the gps came around?.i have to fish trucks OUT of my residential area CONSTANTLY. because of gps. road i live on, and hte industrial park has same name. EXCEPT for two letters. JD. they enter the road name without JD, they get hung up and usually hit by freight train.
@nyvet48tfw jb sucks and wtf is a JB Hunt power unit! lolz a truck u mean?? lolzz trying to make it sound so sophisticated and jb cunt maintains a safety record in the top three worst company's in the trucking industry.because they will hire anyone that is stupid enough to drive for them and get ripped off thats why there called jb's cunts cuz your a bunch of bitches
@nyvet48tfw Regardless of the fact that this driver was not JB Hunt, the question was still posed as to why your company and Swift have a poor reputation. i'm sure you personally are a great driver, and I hope you get your own tractor and switch to Landstar some day. However, you have to admit, fair or unfair, your company has a poor reputation in the area of safety. Now, let's look at the facts, JB Hunt has probably the BEST training program in America....
@MattPerk7 but with that title comes the simple fact that you have a lot of newer and younger drivers who have less experience and more to prove. This means more risk taking and less risk management. Please don't take that personally.
@nyvet48tfw I like your comments! You're right, this post is from a person who speculates about truck drivers, pointing out the faults of a few truck drivers and smearing the names of two great trucking companies along with the drivers behind the wheel. This poster seems to have a grudge against truckers, I bet it is hard for this guy to drive his car...jealousy sets in!
@DirtBoyLouie4 "Two great trucking companies"? lol. In my thirty years over the road, these two companies have earned their bad reputations, more than any companies still in business.
Thats easy, they specialize in paying for the drivers training and telling them how they can make big money, then they put the inexperienced driver behind the wheel and work them like a slave because now they are indebted to the company for their training. When that driver gets burned out and quits they have another unsuspecting driver in the pipeline. So they have inexperienced and or drivers who should have never been put on the road int the first place. They do end up with some good drivers.
i would want 100 an hour to drive a fuel truck, I mean come on people! 35-50 an hour and allowed full judgement calls. But no comapy is out there like that. I am the one taking the risk , not the company. You way your right;s away when you sign up. Serious people!
You are suppose to do a pre trip back in the old days and look at the roads you will take. You are suppose to call CHP and find out if you need permits or if any roads should be avoided. They wont hire me for sure and it takes 45 to an hour just to do a pre trip inspection and it may need work done. The trucks are like 747s on the road. you want falty work or failed inspection on the road? You want an underpaided illegal drunk on the road? Most truckers are heavy drinkers. do to drug testing law
If you kill someone in one of thoes trucks you are held liable even if the company does not maintain the rig. They fail to provide proof of registration to the drivers and no proof of insurance and go ahead and drive. Why do you think they hire illegals to drive? Because when they get pulled over the company gets the truck and illegal gets a free ride home.
The trucking industry is the worst ever. Get in and drive and its pure junk. They pay the workers per mile so you can sit in traffic for hours and not get paid anything. JB Hunt and SWIFT tend to hire straight out of the schools. and you really dont learn much about the industry in SCHOOL! 8 bucks an hour is the basic wage of a truck driver. One ticket can ruin your life with 1500 dollar tickets. The Employer is laughing all the way to the BANK!
I'll take a probably pretty good guess and say they are following a GPS that does not tell the truck restrictions on it, and the pay for truckers is like a minimum wage job with no overtime pay and plenty of overtime which creates a lot of turnover and roof topping, I would say the less costly GPS is the main culprit though
And they would not rehire me? I did well with JB Hunt but a tornado flipped my truck broke my back once you are a workers comp guy you are the enemy some have returned after injury I only heard of one. Usually it is a reassignment and you do something else in the company I was the sort if I am not trucking what else is there I sure as hell aint living in Houston Tx working as a guard. JB has some good drivers the worst I have see are Werner they get the green drivers. This dude is a contractor.
@hickrystyk Fuckin A man they hate trucks and truckers on the east coast. They want their shit but wont let you park anywhere and sleep. Let em starve I agree!
@hickrystyk Well said, or NYC should hire a local company with daycabs to take the freight into the city. Even better, if more truckers would just refuse to go into the city.
@hickrystyk STFU rookie! I make MORE money running NYC than any other trucking job except for OD! At least I can read a map. I can use electronic means of routing AND I can freaking read the signs that say in 3' tall letters in black on yellow NO TRUCKS on Parkways! Not to mention every CXDL school also allots 1 minute to that! and the oldest joke in trucking being "why is it you can't drive on parkways but you can in driveways?" It's also a reason you should be able to read...C#2 ..
@rolloverriderpgr ..#2 Read ENGLISH! Any driver that can NOT see those big assed signs OR be able to read them and under stand the words of NO TRUCKS ALLOWED need to have the CDL they paid way too much money for because they are idiots thrown away and replaced with a spatula to flip burgers with! There are even signs on every road heading to NYC warning drivers "No Trucks allowed on PARKWAYS" but now morons listen to their idiot GPS units! Turn right! OOPS Recalculating!
@rolloverriderpgr I can read , too. I haul OD in New York City and out on the island, if it pays right.Me a rookie???...NO!!!! Who cares what kind of money you make...I have also pulled reefer into NYC and it sucks. NYC sucking in a big truck has really nothing to do with how much money you make or if you can read...it just sucks. Can you read this, or do I need to put it in audio file for ya, SUPERTRUCKER???
@hickrystyk Apparently I offended you there Rambo. How I have no fricking idea. Could care less as you came in like an ass hole wanaabe so I'll pull no punches with a wheel holder as that's what you are coming out as or a Good Buddy! I pulled reefer into NYC for 32 years and it pays better than OD/FB! Done that also and it's a PITA having to wait till 9p to make the crossing and with the new HOS that sucks worse that the Point! As I said I have no idea why you want to play Rambo!C#2
@rolloverriderpgr It must be that you made the same mistake as the idiot who did a great job topping that JB Trailer! I didn't make a comment to you did I Genius? I did state that back a few years JB and Swift got slammed a lot but the jokes are old or did your pissant brain not see that? I did say why but My comment was about morons that can't read! The truth hurt doesn't it deadwood oops hickorystick?Yeah lets see what an idiot that runs off at the mouth that has no..Cpost#3
@rolloverriderpgr reading comprehension and jumps before understanding what is written sounds like. Do an audio file and a video so we can all see! It just might be entertaining for those who really can't read all those signs and never heard the old saying of "No Trucks on Parkways" like it says outside of the city that idiots choose to ignore and then ask the cops"what signs" like they never heard that one before! Oh? Was that YOUR truck in the video? Then I'm sorry! NOT!...
@rolloverriderpgr Last post for now::: That would be the ONLY reason why you came on with that tiny hardon the way you did! The truth hurt and you fell on it like a rookie would! Get over it and watch those signs but watch that map you need to study better. Those parkways are actually marked as such on most of them! duh
@hickrystyk I had to go back to see what you said to piss me off and here it is! Shit that comes out of a rookies mouth! as follows!
Make it a law...no trucks in NYC....Let those people starve...get their own freight...NYC sucks in a big truck hickrystyk 1 month ago 27
Yeah you drive in NYC with that NYC sucks in a truck statement! I hear that out of those pussies that say "I don't do NYC!" and cry rivers when they get a dispatch to whats just another city! go back to BK Rook!
First I can tell you that this is not a JB Hunt driver. This is an independent contractor pulling a JB Hunt trailer. As far as the reasons why this keeps happening...I'd venture to say unfamiliarity with the area and either bad directions or no directions to the customer. A lot of drivers are following "truck specific" GPS units that aren't worth a crap.
the reason why j b hunt and swifty hit that bridge because they are not only inexperienced.. but they also are given lousy directions by their companies and if they miss an exit they are usually trying to flip around. but new york is not truck friendly..the new york DOT should require all drivers with less than a year experience. To be suppliied by their company with a truck map of new york and jersey and the ok routes to backtrack on if they miss an exit ..
The deal it's they are new drivers, you have to start driving some where and those to companies are excellent to beginyour driving carreer, but also I want to say that there are people who are bad drivers and are a danger to every body!!!,
on thing that might help all truckers is for NY to be like the rest of the US make the height of the bridges from the road surface to the low side of the bridge. Right now it is from side walk to bridge which is very confusing for must truckers. That was a contract driver hauling the load he may not read or speak English or know the east coast. Plus some drives do get confused not alot of difference in signs for parkway and tollway. east to fix locals only in NYC drop freight in PA
Yeah these companies hire inexperienced drivers out of school or with 6 months experience. Do you all think there is this endless pool of drivers with 20+ years of experience waiting to be hired? Well there isn't, new and inexperienced drivers (as with any line of work) will need to be hired to fill vast open positions. How else is one to get needed experience for driving trucks? Maybe all new truck drivers should just be forced to drive closed roads with no traffic for 10 years?
Most of the major companies out there hire either right out of driving school, or own their own school. Now, JB Hunt does not do this per se, as you must have 6 months OTR experiance to work for them. However, 6 months really isn't that long, and you really don't get a feel for most of the major cities out there. Us drivers like to pick on JB Hunt so much because they think they are the best in the business, when most of us out there can drive circles around them (and back up much better too)
@marionhunt70444 I drove for J.B. for 13 years. They blow so much smoke up a drivers ass its unreal. when I couldn't take it anymore I found another job. I was making $.45 cents a mile and getting maybe 1200 miles a week, all short east coast miles. When I quit I felt like they raped me. I don't have anything against any driver out here, but J.B. Hunt the company is the most dishonest bunch I have ever dealt with. They lost Wal-Mart because they got caught shaving miles.
J B , Swift ,and a few others hire many guys right out of school ( Truck drivin' sch. ) In defense of the drivers , when you are driving in a strange place mistakes will often happen , because the posted signs are unclear
I used to haul produce into Hunt's Point back when I was driving OTR (I drive a desk now) but I don't recall if there's enough signage to keep truckers off the Hutchinson. I'd suspect there are - but I also know that driving a truck in and around NYC is very hectic for drivers - watching for crazy traffic even at 2AM (the CBX used to be very busy at that hour), narrow lanes - perhaps it's just that these drivers miss what signs there are...
It's hard to understand why the regulating authority of that parkway doesn't put up height detection devices that will alert an over-height driver with flashing lights or even air horns.
New York is so messed up I don't think any OTR truck driver should be dispatched there. It really sucks when you are dispatched to a city like New York City and the driver has never been there. It is easy to get lost out there. I don't know why they make it so dedicated drivers who know the city are dispatched to deliver in NY city.
JB HUnt take driver right out of school with no experience other than driving a car, This is why I say a piece of paper don't always make you a smart person, There are 2 types of Big Rig operators, Your either a operator or a driver well a experienced Big Rig Driver would say they are both and that is the correct answer, because sometimes you have to drive and other times you have to operate, and yes I am both, 22yrs doing it in the Army and now with my RV Rig.
one reason might be NY parkways are not for commerical vehicles. the bridges are way to low but those from out of town might not know this. JB Hunt and Swift are training companies, Some drivers have little experence. Some dont ahve any experence wiht city driving in a car let alone a rig towing a trailer. Which would account for more accidents and mistakes. plus the size of their operation would just give the odds that they would be in more accidents
I am a former Swift Driver Trainer. I can tell you that from experience, that one if the biggest reasons is 1. The two companies are HUGE. Each company has over 10000 trucks on the roadway. So therefore, you will see and hear more as far as incidents are concerned. 2. Driving School Training had plenty do to with Accident & Incidents. 3 Just plain driver stupidity... Failing to pre-plan the trip.... This gets drivers in Tons of Trouble! They did this for 2 weeks before driving any distance.
@BaldUgly1 Agreed. I can tell you that I hate driving anywhere in the five barrowes. I think if I went there more often it would not be so daunting. I diliver in Philly, Boston and the like. But NYC; scary place.
JB Hunt (DOT# 54283) has 10, 512 power units logging 825, 156, 529 miles. They have 10, 096 drivers. SWIFT (DOT# 54283 ) has 16,216 power units logging 1, 637, 678, 162 miles and has 14, 300 drivers. Look up those DOT numbers on the US DOT site ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/default.aspx very interesting info. Aim High, Get the Big picture, Keep your Eyes Moving, Leave yourself a way out, and Make sure the See You.
@Freakk1979 If Jb and Swift hired drivers with 3 years experience their accidents would be cut in half...6mos isnt enuff time to let some one loose on the public..
@stevefromPA2 Not many J.B. Hunt drivers out there anymore. They do rail and dedicated accounts anymore. Besides that this isn't a J.B. driver. He's an independant pulling a J.B. trailer. Either way this guy needs to learn how to drive.
It would help if NY had the correct heights posted on their bridges, rather than measuring from the fifth-wheel to the bridge it should be measured from the ground up.
AAAHHH I hate to sound like a JB troll but that looks like a "PURE PLAYAZZ" sign on the door WTFever that izz (: 45) which explaines all you need to know right there. Driva what? Driva playazz...
JB Hunt and Swift drivers, along with just about any over the road company with ILL. on their door sucks, about 90 percent of them can barely speak english as a rule. The drivers that do speak english probably on average have less than a year experience and are thrown to the wolfs without proper road training.
I F**kin' hate slide shows! You've got a great idea here, but you really need to make a VIDEO video. Btw, I did drive for JB Hunt for a short time, and the majority of the drivers are good, as with any company. Hunt and Swift catch a lot of grief due to the fact that their trucks USED TO BE limited to 55 mph. Usually, if there was a back-up in the truck lanes, it was a JBH or Swift truck going as fast as they could, 10-15 mph slower than the limit. They've fixed this, but the rep remains.
it's like that here in Canada too, Westcan trucks and truckers are always being treated badly, but yes they can't keep drivers as well, and i believe thats why there reputation is in the gutter,
The dissing of JB and Swift is done by little kids who still are stuck in their grade school mentality. I notice if it is not them it is someone they will tease. No I don't drive for Swift or JB. X)
To answer your ?,,JB,warner, prime, are the top companys that hire people with no CDL experience, they train people in a couple mouths , and give them a CDL, now I'm not bad talking no one, THE fact is with little experience your going to make mistakes;,,,, let me let you in on the dirty side of trucking, when experience leaves theses companys they train people ,pay them shit too save money, and you guss right this guy loss his job,
That is and over the road driver..... and J.B. Hunt is from Arkansas NOT North Carolina the Governor never owned J.B.Hunt.... Hunt and Walmart are In laws from Arkansas...
@crazeenydriver It's because Swift and JB Hunt hire A LOT of rookie truckers. Some of which have no business in a truck let alone having a CDL. Makes a guy wonder if some of these new hires get their CDL out of a cereal box. If you notice in your video a sign is clearly posted of the low underpass of 10' 2". Standard height for a big truck is 13' 6" Hmmmmmm Nah!!!! He'll make it under, right? LOL
That truck's not overheight. Overweight? Doubt it.
Swift is a training company. Most of their drivers are rookies, i.e., inexperienced.
New York bridges and overpasses often have the wrong height posted. Give a rookie or a driver who's never been to NY wrong directions (happens very day) and he'll probably get into trouble. Too, drivers from other states may not know about the signage issues or that trucks are prohibited on NY Parkways.
The trailer is JB Hunts, the driver is not. Always go by the tractor pulling the trailer if you want to see who they work for... (If un marked chances are its owner op)
I drove for Swift when I got my cdl. I had a great trainer and learned a lot. My first couple of months were ok after I went solo. As time went on my paid miles went down. I talked to other drivers there who were having the same problem. They don't care about there drivers or have enough freight for their drivers.
they should make all roads able to handle these large trucks. can u imagine driveing one of those things and getting lost, and taking the wrong turn??? i dont blame the trucker at all.
hey you have to know just because we drive all 48 states, most of the time we are dispatch and told which way to go, Since i see that you dont have any experience on the road, let me tell you 18 wheelers don,t stop on a dime or turn on a dime, if we miss a turn or an exit we are screw, I will put my money where my mouth is, That if you ever come to california, or any other state that you will get lost screw up like any of us and that will happen in your little 4 wheeler. No I'm not JB or Swift
Legal height of trucks is 13-6 so raise your stupid underpasses.
Now stop talking like an expert because you are not.
NY is spending their highway funds on other things and therefore they cannot afford to raise their bridges or lower the roads that go underneath them, so retarded.Investigate the misuse of highway funds Mr investigative reporter.
@norvman as a SWIFT driver they treat me good I have been driving for them since 2007 and i am now a mentor.. I'm in a 2011 Kenworth T700. I get the miles I want and home time to be with my son.. JB and werner are the 2 main compnaies that treat drivers as scums... werner got new trucks with APU'S and they are still sitting in the lot on Dallas Texas. My home office is Lancaster Texas.. but live in Sulphur Springs Tx
J.B. Hunt and Swift tend to get a lot of bad publicity. Some of it is deserved, some isn't. They are very large companies and some drivers deride them for that reason only. The large trucking company I've seen hire incompetents over the years is USA Truck. They have a deplorable safety record.
70Kenny 10 hours ago
The deal with swift is:they hire alot of new(never driven a mile)drivers.Since swift has over 20.000+ trucks and new drivers they have the most accidents. The one unfair thing about swift is that they are to quick to put a driver on the D.A.C report.D.A.C is a company that trucking companies use to blacklist drivers.Once they are on D.A.C,any other company that utilizes D.A.C will not hire that driver ever.So incredibly unfair.D.A.C should be made illegal.D.A.C should be sued out of existance.

also they should have cut the trailer up for scrap metal it isnt repairable maybe the parkway needs to put poles before the ramps so trucks cant proceed .....

can tell you few facts....
thats a subcontractor/owner operator jb hunt farms a lot of freight out to them because its cheaper.
as for the jbhunt/swift driver comment like another user said jb hunt and swift both have very bad hiring practices and terrible training programs they dont care who sits in that seat because the pay newbies 0.25/mile thats sad for pay! when you put all these factors together this accident is what you get!
tspielman1 2 days ago
@crazeenydriver that was more of a slideshow than a video, but it was interesting with the narration and all. You gotta feel a bit bad for the driver, looks like an owner operator. That doesnt appear to be a JB Hunt tractor. It sustained damage as well.
fyrebyrd301 2 days ago

JB swift and schnider are large companys , so their one % of bad drivers is more obvious than the company with 20 drivers , I have had a lot of drivers tell me those are good companys to work for I just prefer wild cat , I make more and rule my own roost .
wizardman42 1 week ago
there is no reason for this driver to lose his license. the city and state are responsible for not designing a device that keeps large trucks off this parkway, not doing so shows they are only enforcing for the money and not safety. a metal frame like those in parking lots would prevent any vehicles too large from entering the parkway. dude was probably lost & took a wrong turn at the last moment. traffic in nyc is very intimidating.

No one is trying to prove anything. yeah, thats not a JB truck, who he drives for, if hes a contractor for JB, I dont know.

As for screwing the driver, ask a Hunt driver how much they allow him to idle his truck when it's cold or hot out.
eoaroadshow 1 month ago
If you call a JB Hunt or Swift dispatch office you are dealing with a numbskull who has ABSOLUTELY no experience behind the wheel. I've never worked for wither one of these companies but I did come close to working with JB Hunt one time. When I asked if any of the people who would be my dispatchers had any OTR experience I was told that wasn't necessary. I decided never to work for them after that little talk. To cut out most of the bad things that happen like this get experienced dispatchers!!
MyBenjamin66 1 month ago

The deal with dissing swift trucks is they have there own trucking schools through the company that have over filled classes and run the students through like an assembly line.

Snowbatman99 2 months ago

You are suppose to do a pre trip back in the old days and look at the roads you will take. You are suppose to call CHP and find out if you need permits or if any roads should be avoided. They wont hire me for sure and it takes 45 to an hour just to do a pre trip inspection and it may need work done. The trucks are like 747s on the road. you want falty work or failed inspection on the road? You want an underpaided illegal drunk on the road? Most truckers are heavy drinkers. do to drug testing law
2012goingNutz 2 months ago
If you kill someone in one of thoes trucks you are held liable even if the company does not maintain the rig. They fail to provide proof of registration to the drivers and no proof of insurance and go ahead and drive. Why do you think they hire illegals to drive? Because when they get pulled over the company gets the truck and illegal gets a free ride home.
2012goingNutz 2 months ago
The trucking industry is the worst ever. Get in and drive and its pure junk. They pay the workers per mile so you can sit in traffic for hours and not get paid anything. JB Hunt and SWIFT tend to hire straight out of the schools. and you really dont learn much about the industry in SCHOOL! 8 bucks an hour is the basic wage of a truck driver. One ticket can ruin your life with 1500 dollar tickets. The Employer is laughing all the way to the BANK!
2012goingNutz 2 months ago
I'll take a probably pretty good guess and say they are following a GPS that does not tell the truck restrictions on it, and the pay for truckers is like a minimum wage job with no overtime pay and plenty of overtime which creates a lot of turnover and roof topping, I would say the less costly GPS is the main culprit though

hickrystyk 2 months ago 27
@hickrystyk Fuckin A man they hate trucks and truckers on the east coast. They want their shit but wont let you park anywhere and sleep. Let em starve I agree!
mrwhite4 2 months ago
@hickrystyk Well said, or NYC should hire a local company with daycabs to take the freight into the city. Even better, if more truckers would just refuse to go into the city.
drumbasher 4 weeks ago
@hickrystyk STFU rookie! I make MORE money running NYC than any other trucking job except for OD! At least I can read a map. I can use electronic means of routing AND I can freaking read the signs that say in 3' tall letters in black on yellow NO TRUCKS on Parkways! Not to mention every CXDL school also allots 1 minute to that! and the oldest joke in trucking being "why is it you can't drive on parkways but you can in driveways?" It's also a reason you should be able to read...C#2 ..
rolloverriderpgr 2 weeks ago
@rolloverriderpgr ..#2 Read ENGLISH! Any driver that can NOT see those big assed signs OR be able to read them and under stand the words of NO TRUCKS ALLOWED need to have the CDL they paid way too much money for because they are idiots thrown away and replaced with a spatula to flip burgers with! There are even signs on every road heading to NYC warning drivers "No Trucks allowed on PARKWAYS" but now morons listen to their idiot GPS units! Turn right! OOPS Recalculating!
rolloverriderpgr 2 weeks ago
@rolloverriderpgr I can read , too. I haul OD in New York City and out on the island, if it pays right.Me a rookie???...NO!!!! Who cares what kind of money you make...I have also pulled reefer into NYC and it sucks. NYC sucking in a big truck has really nothing to do with how much money you make or if you can read...it just sucks. Can you read this, or do I need to put it in audio file for ya, SUPERTRUCKER???
hickrystyk 2 weeks ago
@hickrystyk Apparently I offended you there Rambo. How I have no fricking idea. Could care less as you came in like an ass hole wanaabe so I'll pull no punches with a wheel holder as that's what you are coming out as or a Good Buddy! I pulled reefer into NYC for 32 years and it pays better than OD/FB! Done that also and it's a PITA having to wait till 9p to make the crossing and with the new HOS that sucks worse that the Point! As I said I have no idea why you want to play Rambo!C#2
rolloverriderpgr 2 weeks ago
@rolloverriderpgr It must be that you made the same mistake as the idiot who did a great job topping that JB Trailer! I didn't make a comment to you did I Genius? I did state that back a few years JB and Swift got slammed a lot but the jokes are old or did your pissant brain not see that? I did say why but My comment was about morons that can't read! The truth hurt doesn't it deadwood oops hickorystick?Yeah lets see what an idiot that runs off at the mouth that has no..Cpost#3
rolloverriderpgr 2 weeks ago
@rolloverriderpgr reading comprehension and jumps before understanding what is written sounds like. Do an audio file and a video so we can all see! It just might be entertaining for those who really can't read all those signs and never heard the old saying of "No Trucks on Parkways" like it says outside of the city that idiots choose to ignore and then ask the cops"what signs" like they never heard that one before! Oh? Was that YOUR truck in the video? Then I'm sorry! NOT!...
rolloverriderpgr 2 weeks ago
@rolloverriderpgr Last post for now::: That would be the ONLY reason why you came on with that tiny hardon the way you did! The truth hurt and you fell on it like a rookie would! Get over it and watch those signs but watch that map you need to study better. Those parkways are actually marked as such on most of them! duh

@hickrystyk I had to go back to see what you said to piss me off and here it is! Shit that comes out of a rookies mouth! as follows!

First I can tell you that this is not a JB Hunt driver. This is an independent contractor pulling a JB Hunt trailer. As far as the reasons why this keeps happening...I'd venture to say unfamiliarity with the area and either bad directions or no directions to the customer. A lot of drivers are following "truck specific" GPS units that aren't worth a crap.
tankermike494 2 months ago
@tankermike494 Yeap or you call a customer and either get bad directions or none at all. Been there man...
mrwhite4 2 months ago
the reason why j b hunt and swifty hit that bridge because they are not only inexperienced.. but they also are given lousy directions by their companies and if they miss an exit they are usually trying to flip around. but new york is not truck friendly..the new york DOT should require all drivers with less than a year experience. To be suppliied by their company with a truck map of new york and jersey and the ok routes to backtrack on if they miss an exit ..
tbaarr1 2 months ago
The deal it's they are new drivers, you have to start driving some where and those to companies are excellent to beginyour driving carreer, but also I want to say that there are people who are bad drivers and are a danger to every body!!!,

on thing that might help all truckers is for NY to be like the rest of the US make the height of the bridges from the road surface to the low side of the bridge. Right now it is from side walk to bridge which is very confusing for must truckers. That was a contract driver hauling the load he may not read or speak English or know the east coast. Plus some drives do get confused not alot of difference in signs for parkway and tollway. east to fix locals only in NYC drop freight in PA
wander6977 2 months ago
Yeah these companies hire inexperienced drivers out of school or with 6 months experience. Do you all think there is this endless pool of drivers with 20+ years of experience waiting to be hired? Well there isn't, new and inexperienced drivers (as with any line of work) will need to be hired to fill vast open positions. How else is one to get needed experience for driving trucks? Maybe all new truck drivers should just be forced to drive closed roads with no traffic for 10 years?
PAtrucker73 2 months ago
Most of the major companies out there hire either right out of driving school, or own their own school. Now, JB Hunt does not do this per se, as you must have 6 months OTR experiance to work for them. However, 6 months really isn't that long, and you really don't get a feel for most of the major cities out there. Us drivers like to pick on JB Hunt so much because they think they are the best in the business, when most of us out there can drive circles around them (and back up much better too)
marionhunt70444 2 months ago
@marionhunt70444 I drove for J.B. for 13 years. They blow so much smoke up a drivers ass its unreal. when I couldn't take it anymore I found another job. I was making $.45 cents a mile and getting maybe 1200 miles a week, all short east coast miles. When I quit I felt like they raped me. I don't have anything against any driver out here, but J.B. Hunt the company is the most dishonest bunch I have ever dealt with. They lost Wal-Mart because they got caught shaving miles.
TheDean283 2 months ago

Max1Chase1 3 months ago
@Max1Chase1 6 months with JB Hunt to get hired, just checked their website for verification.
marionhunt70444 2 months ago
one reason might be NY parkways are not for commerical vehicles. the bridges are way to low but those from out of town might not know this.

BaldUgly1 3 months ago
@BaldUgly1 Agreed. I can tell you that I hate driving anywhere in the five barrowes. I think if I went there more often it would not be so daunting. I diliver in Philly, Boston and the like. But NYC; scary place.
gateway8833 3 months ago
JB Hunt (DOT# 54283) has 10, 512 power units logging 825, 156, 529 miles. They have 10, 096 drivers. SWIFT (DOT# 54283 ) has 16,216 power units logging 1, 637, 678, 162 miles and has 14, 300 drivers. Look up those DOT numbers on the US DOT site ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/default.aspx very interesting info. Aim High, Get the Big picture, Keep your Eyes Moving, Leave yourself a way out, and Make sure the See You.
gateway8833 3 months ago
Main reason JB and Swift got such a bad rep is because they are the largest two companies in the us. the more drivers u got the more accidents u have
Freakk1979 3 months ago

Driva what? Driva playazz...
groundloop07 3 months ago
JB Hunt and Swift drivers, along with just about any over the road company with ILL. on their door sucks, about 90 percent of them can barely speak english as a rule. The drivers that do speak english probably on average have less than a year experience and are thrown to the wolfs without proper road training.
deltabtry 3 months ago
I F**kin' hate slide shows! You've got a great idea here, but you really need to make a VIDEO video. Btw, I did drive for JB Hunt for a short time, and the majority of the drivers are good, as with any company. Hunt and Swift catch a lot of grief due to the fact that their trucks USED TO BE limited to 55 mph. Usually, if there was a back-up in the truck lanes, it was a JBH or Swift truck going as fast as they could, 10-15 mph slower than the limit. They've fixed this, but the rep remains.

That is and over the road driver..... and J.B. Hunt is from Arkansas NOT North Carolina the Governor never owned J.B.Hunt.... Hunt and Walmart are In laws from Arkansas...
wharrison007 3 months ago
@crazeenydriver It's because Swift and JB Hunt hire A LOT of rookie truckers. Some of which have no business in a truck let alone having a CDL. Makes a guy wonder if some of these new hires get their CDL out of a cereal box. If you notice in your video a sign is clearly posted of the low underpass of 10' 2". Standard height for a big truck is 13' 6" Hmmmmmm Nah!!!! He'll make it under, right? LOL
ZX10RMan76 3 months ago
that's because J B hunt and and swift higher inexperienced drivers.
the truck just needs a worm body to drive it.most of them can't park in one spot.
most can't back up or speak Enlish, there what we call STERING WHEEL {HOLDER} __J J /GUNSLINGER.
jjarrell1964 3 months ago
That truck's not overheight. Overweight? Doubt it.
Swift is a training company. Most of their drivers are rookies, i.e., inexperienced.
New York bridges and overpasses often have the wrong height posted. Give a rookie or a driver who's never been to NY wrong directions (happens very day) and he'll probably get into trouble. Too, drivers from other states may not know about the signage issues or that trucks are prohibited on NY Parkways.
Hunt was never a governor.

if your going to drive tractor trailer then #1 get a rand mcnally gps #2 avoid parkways like the plague !!

JASONSEPTEMBER7th84 4 months ago
SWIFT is mainly rookie drivers, and their Training is not the best....
New York traffic in my opinion is not as bad as Chicago, at least you guys are more friendlier than Chicago Drivers....
ALS2001 4 months ago
hey you have to know just because we drive all 48 states, most of the time we are dispatch and told which way to go, Since i see that you dont have any experience on the road, let me tell you 18 wheelers don,t stop on a dime or turn on a dime, if we miss a turn or an exit we are screw, I will put my money where my mouth is, That if you ever come to california, or any other state that you will get lost screw up like any of us and that will happen in your little 4 wheeler. No I'm not JB or Swift
tinnocker9 4 months ago
Legal height of trucks is 13-6 so raise your stupid underpasses.
Now stop talking like an expert because you are not.
NY is spending their highway funds on other things and therefore they cannot afford to raise their bridges or lower the roads that go underneath them, so retarded.Investigate the misuse of highway funds Mr investigative reporter.
