this may seem crazy, but i think this movie is so scary because it doesnt even acknowledge its scariness... it kinda just rolls off you as "cheesy" and doesnt put ANY effort into actually TRYING to be scary. i wish i was in a better state of mind to explain this better... but its like, all these movies nowadays try so hard to be scary with darkness and music and lighting effects but this one makes it almost "friendly"... as if to say, "you can watch this movie! its ok!" but with a menacing grin.
