  • woohoo! thanks

  • Really good teaching style and at a good pace. Thanks mate.

  • I have to say being a beginner. I have found your teaching methods extremely easy and I'm learning so much in a short time.

  • 2:50 the whole scale pattern.

  • is this miner miner scale ?

  • @ikshakhema No.

  • isnt the minor scale the same as the aeolian scale

  • SOULOOHS!

  • does anybody know if the finger positioning is that important? Like if I learn it differently to how he says should that matter?

  • @HiaPirate depends on what you want to progress to if you want to use an alternate fingering you by all means can. in fact it would be good, in my opinion, when you practice to try many things to help you progress. whatever fells comfortable and natural. keep in mind to learn what this man is teaching you and then apply what i said previously. keep playin bro

  • hahahaha

  • thank you so much u saved my life i have a guitar test 2morrow and this was part of it and i completely forgot but thx to this i remember now so thx so much

  • Thanks, your great! You really helped out a lot. I've been playing rhythm for a few years now but only knew a few lead riffs, no real scales. This is just what I needed. Cheers M!

  • Plectrum? no wonder im havin a hard time playin.. i need a plectrum! Thats the secret!! I can finally be great!!! oh.. he means a pick.

  • good just what im looking for!! thanks for the video man its really a great help !!

  • can someone please tell me if this is an example of a major scale

    E 579

    A 579

    D 679

    G 679

    B 7910

    E 7910

  • @Rorschachxx1985, yes it is

  • so i usually play in drop D i like lamb of god and very influenced by them. how do i apply this into drop d?

  • @00IRON001 all you have to do is move the notes on the low e string up 2 frets and it will sound the same. Play the rest of the notes on the other string at the same position though.

  • @00IRON001

just move the notes that are on the bottom string up two frets

  • @wexenhex HOLY SHIT FUCKIN THX

  • so if you give that a pluck lol. its interesting how different american english is from british english

  • thanks man!!!!

love the way you explain bro!:O)

  • Hell yeah for the West Country accent! I'm from Bristol myself, so you sound entirely normal to me :D

  • Now that I know scales, I think i'm past the "I can't do it" part, and on to the "HOLY SHIT I'M LEARNING" part.

  • I'm totally a beginner of learning guitar and I must say these are the best lessons to follow on You Tube! This guy is just the best because first of all it's not a boring experience listening to him. He is just a great teacher, some guys have it,some don't.

  • Great accent btw! but scots would even be better:)

  • what's the difference between the A minor scale here, and the A minor pentatonic scale?

  • @ImSimpleButCrazy A minor pentatonic has only five notes by removing the 2nd and 6th degree of the natural minor scale.

  • hahhaahah

  • Is this a moveable scale?

  • SOMEONE HELP ME!!! is this like the major scale in the sense that you can move it back to the third fret and it would be a G minor scale???

  • @crAshN4L I'm confused about the same thing

  • @crAshN4L That's exactly correct. Remember, that's the beauty of guitar scales. By learning the shape (or pattern) you can play that same scale anywhere by just changing the root note.

  • Guitar FTW

  • But how this minor scales can help you to play solo?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • This guy is awesome! Put a smile on my face when he did that little solo

  • you are wonderful and Thank you from Germany

  • Oui mate that was so clear << like that accent .. btw thx for the lesson

  • I am confused, isnt that a 'C MAJOR' SCALE? plz will sumone clear my doubt

  • @bbbrigand

Major is happy, Minor is sad

It's an A minor scale because it starts on th 5th fret of the E, and that note is an A

    Hope this helps.

  • haha i like how he says platrum

  • haha he said plectrum lol i wish i was that proper

  • That's a melodic minor scale in A (ABCDEFGA'). Are the harmonic minor scales (ABCDEFG#A') used with a guitar?

  • @gabriel94220 yep.

  • this scale sounds like the end of the intro solo of fade to black by metallica! but slow and it was a three note pull off on the 1st string

  • thx

  • frodo you must destroy the ring, but frodo you must

  • why is it that in every scale tutorial whether it be for guitar or piano, the instructor NEVER goes over the scale's formula. this makes it a lot easier to understand. btw the formula for the minor scale beginning on ANY note is: start, w (whole step), h (half step), w, w, h, w, w.

  • @drinksprite because generally you don't have time to think about the formula while playing. It is easier to get used to with patterns so you can produce (improvise) autonomously. however, some point I agree with you. you should know the idea behind it so you can come up with new things during composing etc. namely, when you have time for thinking.

  • @drinksprite Thanks alot man, i always wondered how scales were made "up"

  • IMO it's much easier to just learn the finger pattern of the scale(the Am scale for EX, as shown in the video) and implement it on whichever note it is you want to start from.

btw, when I said "easier" I meant that it works better for me. some people find the whole/half thing to work better for them.

  • nice lesson man thanks

  • thank you very much man..

  • Terribel sound!

  • That accent is so thick that I suspect it's fake, but good lesson.

  • hey im not new to guitar or anythin.. but im just now entering jazz and some of these chords are wierd... so how do i find out where the notes are in an Emin11(b5) chord

  • he's so happy

  • @youfreaker I especially love the way he says 'Okay'. This man loves life!

  • hey will this pattern work on any fret on the 6th string and can someone give me the link to the next video plz and thank you?

  • nice......but the guitar tone sounds like shit

  • I've been playing guitar for a little more than 4 years now and i'm just now learning scales. lol

  • im learnin guitar atm and this was very usefull.. need new e string cause i snapped it like most newbies :D

  • and u need these scale to play all the SOULOUS u want

  • oh my god he's so annoying! but good lesson though

  • i proper love his accent!! where's he from? like bristol?

  • @josephmarshall sounds more like a northern accent to me

  • @Adanos221 maaate, im from the north of england, and northern that accent aint!

  • @josephmarshall sounds austrailian dont it?

  • @allthecoolguyz Naw, that's totes a Irishman.

  • @joshuatreet lol, no he's from the south west of england. That's a west-country accent

  • @allthecoolguyz This guy sounds nothing like an aussie. Im an aussie and i never hear people talking like this, he sounds like he takes it up the arse

  • @KillerMetalHead12344

ma bad homie, dont take it personally haha

it was ma opinion so yea...

  • @allthecoolguyz im not taking it personally i never take it anything personally unless its really serious shit :P we do have gay people here but they talk in a really posh aussie accent haha

  • @ILOVESHIT1000 dick

  • this guy speaks pretty good english:P

nah man i love the accent:D

Ben i followed your lessons a few years ago when i was real beginner and recommend them to everyone who starts playing guitar

    keep on the good stuff

  • @rgt4all Maybe because he is English?

  • @btcc11 that say americans always about british people

  • @rgt4all you and i are both dutch. you do know we're the ones that sound like idiots when we speak english, right? our accents are lame ;-) this guy is english.

  • @DennChooch yep ik weet t maar tis zoon standaard amerikaanse grapxD

maar dat eronder is wel truexD

  • i think tab is great but if ur going to talk about scales and music theory u should refer to the frets by their note name instead of numbers

  • This guy must know how fucking weird and girly he sounds.

  • Plays a mean guitar though

  • This guy strikes me as a bit of a chode

  • its not the down up technique mo fucka! its the alternate picking technique.

  • he's got a Mohawk he must be an accomplished guitar player

  • how do i transpose again?

  • that accent is pretty.... unique

  • @InspiringWear its called british, lol wtf

  • @mbenzsl2000 your epicly british, its good

  • he should be on a tractor and his hair can be the antenna for the radio

  • that's a nice fake accent

  • he sounds like he should be a character in a stereotypical victorian era cartoon. I think the gieco gecko climbed up his ass before this lesson.

  • geico

  • thanks dude. simple but effective.

  • .............. this is like lead guitar for children watching blue peter!!!!..... sweetandsourlips.... you're right..... i wanna kill people now..... him mainly....

    P.S luv the accent..:)

  • Hahhaha click on the close caption button for this video. You will laugh.

  • That was the BEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN 12 th time watching i still cant play a scale worth shit but i know where to go when i got a doobie...

  • i finally learn the minor its wasn't that hard thanx man

  • You are such a happy fellow!

  • i have a question, i had learn this but with out the 4th fret on the g string, was i wrong? or did i learn another form of it?

  • @2extream4us there are many forms to play all these scales, remember there are no rules as long as your hitting the right notes...

  • that accent is fucking annoying =P but thanks for the lesson =)

  • @robostomo1 can't beat summerset :P i want him to say alright my loverrrr

  • @robostomo1 i thought it was fake at first.

  • nice guitar

  • oooh aaaaar.

    where be me tractor?

  • does it need to be MINOR to be able to play this scale? or can i play this scale with normal A

  • I have a question. Does this work for every note? (The minor scale pattern)

  • as far as I know it does. Thats the good thing with Guitar.

  • @ShahnamPersia Haha, I love it. I used to play piano, and then when I moved to guitar, when I wanted to change the key, I just had to move my hand ;D

  • lmao true, so much easier, i just play C major and G major on piano good and all I play, is in C major, G major, E minor and A minor!

Piano is the easiest one to introduce ya to music, but the hardest to master!

  • yeh it will just be in a different key

  • hm.. I dont change the position of my hand, I usually just play 3 notes per string, wether its a minor or major scale

  • thank you so much this is real helpful

  • his voice really slays me ummm is it just me or the Minor Scale doesn't sound as good as just a Minor Pent

  • is this the same thing as aeolian?

  • yessir the minor scale is aeolian, the major is ionian.

  • you're a douche for saying that

  • hey calm down. you cant say it isn't true.

  • great teacher!!!

  • my book has it labelled totally different. i hate scales with a passion

  • Becouse u can play in different tonations, main sounds etc. That's very fvcking uhm... annoying but it is able to lear quite easly when you learn the basics.

  • those fret markers on his guitars are pretty kool...

  • whats the difference between A minor & C major is it just the note you start on ? & dose this apply to all the minor scales

  • ye, the difference is in Tonic- the note you start from, so it has a different feeling. This pattern applies to all minor scales, but there are also other patterns with same notes but different positions on the fretboard.

  • yep, same notes, different starting note.

  • yes. All minor scales are a corresponding Major. They are the same whole step half step pattern, just start on different notes.

  • that helped me alot. ;-) thanks 4 the vid dude

  • he makes life sound so easy :) thats the kind of teacher i want

  • nice to hear a Bristol lad on these vids :)

  • gahaghaghaaaa!!! i've seen like a 100 videos of the minor scale and everyone play it different, i just don't one which one to learn ,to much info!! my head its going to exploit

  • i would be willing to help you if you need extra help with stuff like this its pretty easy actually pm me

  • :D being a guitaris isnt easy ... but once u understand the tones of the guitar , then ud understand why it have been played in other ways ,

theres many ways u can play a scale with the same tones but different position .. sorry my english sucks

  • Hm? No, you got it wrong buddy. Playing guitar is easy... it just takes a lot of time/practice to get good at it.

  • You know that something that will take lots of time and practice to get good at, is called hard?

  • Not necessarily. I've been playing for about 5 years. I have never found guitar to be hard. It just takes time. You practice simple stuff. There should be no such thing as a "complicated lesson" when it comes to guitar. everything is pretty simple. and then you build up on it. it's not hard at all.

  • That's just crap xD, what's your definition of hard?

Something that takes time and endurance to do it is hard...

Also a complicated lesson has nothing to do with guitar, it's complicated becouse the teacher makes it complicated or the terms that are used are not known the the one who learns it.

If you've never found guitar to be hard, you should try a going a higher level ;)

  • The pros...their playing may seem very complicated and impossible to replicate, but they're actually just doing very basic things just adding things in the middle (or playing them lightning fast too...or both).

What's considered a "higher level" to you? If you're telling me to move on to a higher level, please tell me. You'd be helping me out that way. You sound like you play guitar, so any tips?

  • A higher level is a exactly what it says. A step higher then your normal level. If you dont learn things that are hard, you'll just progress really slowly.

  • @lRever A higher level? I still don't get you. Be more specific. What's a higher level? There are NO hard guitar techniques. They're just simple movements. Unless you mean music theory. There ARE levels of that.

  • dude, 7 strings sweep picking is harder than 3 strings sweep picking, you can say the first is on a higher level, while the second is for starting sweeping. Music theory IS complicated though, I'll give you that

  • haha me too!!! i need help

  • his voice makes me wanna kill people

  • woah mrelectric its not just like that, it's all about what key the other guitarist is in, and how well you know what you're doing.

  • i know all this stuff but how do i make a solo!!!!! i dont like know what strings to bend and all that
