  • OMG!!!

Best 80's TV programme. At school this was all we talked about. Loved MONA who was Pincey's girlfriend!!!

The final episode when they were in prison, making hooch was a classic. R.I.P. Gary Olsen.

  • loved this still do, cult status like the fear in 1988, superb slice of london life as it really was. thatcher, dole.coke and hard times but looking back great times. nobody had a pot to piss in but wit 10 bensons and a pint of fosters , still change from 2pound notes, quality, prospects brings back warm memories.

  • Loved this ,Gary olsen ,you was a star ,

  • why can't they show re-runs of this instead of all the "reality TV" bullshit"?!

  • I got it today from ebay ! so far so brilliant ! the dvds have episode selection, visual quality is good.i think its all 12 episodes,no rush to watch them all.Qualiteeeeeeeee !

  • just seen that is on ioffer.com as well. roger daltrey was going to be the singer for this theme (allegedly) but when producers heard this, they loved it.also, the second series was going to be the lads as taxi cab drivers but because of differences between writers, producers and ownership issues,it went to lawyers which is why no dvd or repeats.

  • markyboyz, it was called johnny jarvis and it was on bbc1 in late 1983. the cool character was johnny jarvis and he was played by mark farmer who was in grange hill and appeared in minder regularly. the geeky one was called alan and like you said he didn't know who his dad was and was trying to find out, he thought it was a nice character played by maurice colbourne from howards way but it turned out his real dad was a nasty corrupt copper. jamie foreman played the skinhead. great series.

  • ahhh , cheers, someone upload it then please :)

  • I remember Johnny Jarvis. I'd have been 10 at the time. Nick Stringer played the dodgy copper who was his real dad. They wrote some song, "You take it. What's theirs is yours....". Something along those lines!!! Classic show!

  • come on lads put some clips on here, cheers

  • I have just watched the whole series again. Nobody I know can remember this series, they just dont know what they missed!!! Quality tv miss programmes like this.

  • True i mean where was everyone when this quality show was on? I loved the episode where they did a robbery and ended up stealing pigs instead of money! It was a funny and sad show...dem was the days!

  • I like the one when they went to Southend poor old billy, pincey just invited himself along as always superb

  • Stretch: Why they keepin' pigs in a bank? Ha ha! Great episode and a great series.

  • Yeah solid lots of laughs...you know with the UK (and the whole flippin world)facing a recession i think one of channels( maybe ITV)should start airing this brilliant show!

  • Unfortunately, ITV do not broadcast quality programmes anymore. Neither do Channel Four who showed Prospects first.

  • It's true. Not many people remember this series. It was brilliant though. I watched it as a kid on my black and white PYE portable TV in the days when Oxford Utd had a decent team.

  • cheers mate that would be blinding

  • i remember this so well , when the boys went to the dogs ,backed the fav if it did not win double up on the next , cant lose ,of course it all went pear shaped , this and minder ,was it over 20 years ago

  • funnily enough the episode you mention is one I am watching at this moment with the intention of putting some of it on youtube it is called Uncle Harry's system

  • Well what are you waiting for you old tart!

  • Ive just ordered it myself on ebay. Nice tip. Only me and one of the lads remember this, i cant remember too many episodes tho but I remember Stretch the gangster with the boomin Frank Bruno laugh, and when they try to tunnel into the bank and end up in the butchers. And i could always remember that hand shake. Be waiting for the post now, cant wait to see it.

  • used to love this programme in the 80's. Wonder what those streets in the credits look like now? Lots of luxury flat and canary wharf. be good to see teh comparison!

  • Okay, watching this got me thinking and google -searching.

I checked with a guy selling the whole series on eBay (I'm considering it after reading comments here) and the response about the theme tune is right: Made in England.

But this didn't ring any bells for me but the guy confirmed it was Ray Dorset who, according to Wikipedia was billed as Made in England.

I remember seeing the 7" in Virgin Records back in the day.

  • It was Ray Dorset, the end credits are Ray Dorset and made in England, I bought it the B sideis Stay sharp which is used in the series.

I bought this series off Ebay

  • also meant to say well worth the money good quality 4 disc set 3 episodes on each make sure you set aside some time after it arrives it is hard to watch one episode without the next:)

  • Could you pls put on a full episode PLEASE!

  • Yes, this was a good TV show and it's true very few people seem to remember it. Definately in the early days of Channel 4 and very much of it's time.

  • yeah mate you can get it on ebay for a fiver only copies.bought it myself recently i put the first episode on watched it, then watched another five straight after it couldnt move was great to see 20 years after i last watched it.also what a great character pincy was played brilliantly by the late gary olson, they dont make em like this any more.

  • Just went straight on ebay and purchased the dvd 4 disk set for a fiver just like you said. I owe you one for the tip man, watchin this will take right back to my schooldays, I might even start doin the handshake again!!

  • yeah mate you can get it on ebay for a fiver on dvd only copies. it was repeated on uktv australia a few years ago, bought it myself recently put the first episode on then sat there and watched five more straight after it couldnt move, 20 years since i last seen it, was great to see. also what a great character pincy was brilliantly played by the late gary olsen they dont make em like this anymore.

  • Just checked in again, thanks for the tip mate much appreciated. Yeah, Gary was an unsung hero of British TV. I couldn't miss an episode of this great series. I blame this for ruining my football career, it was on the same night as training for Dundee United BC and I used to skip it all the time to tune in to Prosepects.

  • Anyone I speak to about this superb show hasn't heard of it. 10 pm on Channel 4 Wednesday nights about 86/87 I think? Is it on DVD?

  • Brilliant mid 80's show, Euston Films always came up with the goods. was it first shown in85 or 86? Some people think the song was by the Christians, but I remember it was by a band called Made in England.

  • thats right, it was by made in england but not many people know it was Ray Dorset (former lead singer of Mungo Jerry) on lead vocals. The b side was called Stay Sharp which also featured in the show. This was essential viewing in my schooldays amongst my mates, definately 1985, absolutley brilliant show...

  • That takes me back, McDougalls Mill, the Mudchute, Glengall Road Bridge. Top of East Ferry Road, remember it all. Almost unrecogniseable now, very little from Prospects days left. Almost brings a tear to my eye, remember the Island being a building site for years and that being a wierd time, that series really captured the last of the Island thats gone forever.

  • Thank you from South Korea!

  • fond memories of this programme i was 13 at the time and it inspired me into a few money making schemes such as selling school dinner tickets , pigeon toss, betting and even a mini cafe in my mums selling tea and toast biscuits too my school mates after all it was the 80's it was survival back then. also i remember the theme tune was stuck in my head for about a year, great programme.

  • excellent thought i was the only guy that remembers r.i.p Gary

    tv classic cheesy and addictive
