The hot licks dvd series is the best guitar lesson dvds out there, my favourite are the Danny Gatton ones. and the Warren Haynes one is great for blues rock
I had the honor of meeting him in the late seventies. I traveled to New York to take a week's worth of lessons from him. He treated me so well and was to giving of his knowledge. I saw him again in Los Angeles and again was just taken by his awesome talent, great spirit, and just downright goodness. My wife and I were just heartbroken at his tragedy. I love the guy.
You know, I have hear a thousand guitarist just like Arlen from coast to coast; and you know what? I love them all~! Take the talent god gave you, do your best with it, hone it, put feeling to it, and take it on the road. Amen.
Arlen's a really great guitarist - I took lessoons with him in the mid-70's. He's definitely the biggest influence on my style - he has the only electric guitar I have ever played that "played itsel" - you know, when it feels and sounds like butter and you can't play a bad note - I think it's a 51 Blond Tele - looks just like this one. Arlen had an unbelieveable tragedy occur - I won't go into it - I can't imagine it happening. He did not deserve what happened, to say the least.
He is really good isn't he? wonder why we don't hear more of him - I guess because he's a real musician like Danny and Roy. If he looked skinny and hairy and wasted like Albert or slick and flashy like others whose names escape me - he would no doubt be well known. Bottom line ?- these guys were TOO GOOD!
I would have responded sooner, but I assumed you guys were joking. Yes, there are parrots in the room. The chirps you hear are from a White Bellied Caique.
I was a strat guy for years. now check me. total tele freak. deluxe uSA man. american teles have the best frickin wood in them. trust me, but no, just listen on youtube to all the other crap, then come back to me
Gatton, Buchanan, Roth, Collins..... makes you wonder why the electric guitar had to go beyond the telecaster (although I play a strat style guitar myself). this is about as good as it gets- taste, tone, timing. Holy mother of pearl.
Thanks. I have a Z28 on the way - this clip makes me even more excited. I just bought Arlen's new album based purely on this clip. The demos sounded great, and I can't wait to get into the album.
this man is surely one of the best players i have ever heard.does he play on records?can he give me lessons?how am i gonna play after hearing this?even the birds that sing in the background seem to love it.
what would u name this style ? to me is sound blues and jazz ? i would like to learn more of this style does anyone know what best guitar video to buy for this style ? thanks
Nightlife, is on Arlen's new CD. Check it out on Amazon dot com, it's called Toolin Around Woodstock. Great CD, with Levon Helm, Matt Rae, Bill Kirchen and Sonny Landreth.
I have one of Arlen's first VHS intructional vids that I got a good 10 years ago and it still rips..Arlen has such monster chops...it seems he never runs out of ideas.
arlens an excellent guitarist whose played with the likes of john prine and art garfunkel. ive got his book Nashville Guitarist but i lost the disc/ a floppy bit of plastic, not a cd/ could anyone send an mp3 of it to me please??
god bless arlen, man! nice to see him out and about, grinnin' and pickin'. i learned a lot from him through his Hot Licks tapes over many years. one of the greatest teachers ever. be safe, brother! chin up!
Its nice to see arlen play the guitar. He's my first and only teacher in a sense. I bought he's tapes (6 per set) and learned my first guitar lessons. I still hear the lessons and his tele tones in my head to this day. I still used the licks he taught. Thank you arlen.
Arlen Roth is the MAN. I remember watching him do the song "Tequila" on I think, The Tonight show years ago. Simply amazing the control that man has over the Telecaster.
Is he playing in a pet store ? :)
always loved his playing ever since i bought a hot licks vhs chicago blues guitar

I've given shit tons of money to Arlen over the years for his Hot Licks videos.
My whole life I've usually not received the value of my money. Arlen was an unusual exception.
I got LOTS of value with those vids.
Im still planning on buying them all.

Arlen Roth is THE MAN, in my humble opinion.
I had the honor of meeting him in the late seventies. I traveled to New York to take a week's worth of lessons from him. He treated me so well and was to giving of his knowledge.
