  • Gisaengs were originally artists. They originated from entertainers/dancers for the royal court for parties and important events.Only hundreds of years later when they were kicked out of the court did they practice some prostitution. But from my knowledge, even then the Gisaengs were able to refuse their customers. They were also smart. despite their low social rank, they were described as 'possessing the body of the lower class but the mind of the aristocrat.'

  • The music! She is great.

  • @Bootlegization

i resent that statement. im american, stop being a dick a generalizing every1 from the west. u would get mad that western society generalize the east. open ur mind and eye u idiot.

  • @tisalew

I posted that comment a year ago and actually recieved thumbs up for it.

maybe you need to open your eyes and ears u idiot.

  • can i have the title of the music use

  • either shinawe 시나위 or salpuri 살풀이... 살풀이 for the beginning, and 시나위 for the end... at least it seems like that. The music in the second part is taepyungso 태평소 there isn't a lot of variation with that instrument, so if you find any music for that, it will likely have a similar song

  • the beginning, i think it's 구음살풀이 with 안숙선 singing (Ahn Suk Seon, the famous pansori singer)

  • thankyou !

  • dang,even if the dance is a gisaeng dance,she's graceful :)

  • Thanks a bunch surfjc. i needed the dance and music for my group presentation, anyways thanks again. Thanks for d upload

  • this dance is called gyobang mu and when i apply your definition of the title to the dance it doesn't make sense at all

i don't really see anthing sexual in that dance

  • I like that unique Korean music :D

  • her appearance look more towards the gisaeng style (korean geisha's). gisaeng's only entertained the king and his royal subjects. ladies of the royal family and/or of nobleman's would never lift a part of their skirt.

  • Actually, gisaeng had business outside of the royal court -- it wasn't just for the king.

  • Korean Kiaseng are not prostutes. there dancers.. they dont life there skirts for dirty man.

  • Kiesang or geishang means girl who sell dance/art.

  • @MakeupGeekAddict

What`s a Kiaseng? Please, tell form me, I want to know

  • @Samcancer Kisaeng were lower class women artists (poets, musicians, singers and dancers especially) during Choseon. Some people are used to say they are "the korean prostitutes" for during japanese occupation they have been forced to turn this way, like the geisha actually were (both artists and prostitutes). However, they were knowledgeable and smart women, so we can guess they were the winning ones after all... :)

  • i love the dress. it's so nice...

  • wow...the music could totally be in a silent hill soundtrack.

  • great.. but not my favorite type of traditional Korean dancing.. there are many different types.

  • If traditional Korean dance such as this appeared witout reference to Korea in Los Angeles today, it would be considered avant garde. Great video, but a noisy, disrespectful audience.

  • Tell us more about the dance please
