I support certain aspects of the EU, mainly European economic growth and intergrationalist efforts with all the founding member states prospering greatly from their access to a wider European market. Decreasing trade barriers and developing superior transport links. The bureaucratic nature of the EU is less attractive. I'll vote UKIP because it promises to give the people referenda on important issues so that *we* pass laws not politicians.
The EU is waxing anti-Israel and France will soon be a muslim nation with nukes. I think the zio-cons are taking a wait and watch position but I have no doubt that in the end they will start to move away and eventually oppose the EU.
He was a Roman Catholic restorationists from England who planned the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 to displace Protestant rule by blowing up the Houses of Parliament.
To be honest, how can anyone kid themselves into thinking the EU is democratic? No-one here has had a vote on the EU in over 20 years. I am voting UKIP and we will get out of this mess, even if it means war. You can't place sanctions on the amount of voting allowed.
We will burn the treaty, I wouldn't be surprised if someone breaks into wherever the document is kept.
The Tories really shot themselves in the foot by saying they can't hold a referendum.
Why are some of you guys just so incredibly childish? To put it really clear now: If you don't want to be part of the EU, than you should CELEBRATE the Lisbon Treaty SINCE when it will finally come into force next December you CAN EVENTUALLY drop out of the Union, legally. Something you couldn't do before! However, if you'd really wanna do that you wouldn't either survive on today's economic standards and proof yourself not only short-sighted, but very stupid. Cheers from Finland!
Get YOUR facts right! This treaty has legitimacy in that the GOVERMENT that a MAJORITY of your fellow citizens voted for has signed two years ago. Plus: Parliament voted for it, again in a MAJORITY, and who did elect the MoPs? Anyway, what are you afraid of? An EVIL European Union? You know what I think? You guys simply didn't understand yet that the times of Nation States is over. I love Britain, it's a wonderful country with wonderful people! But why are some of you so afraid of modernity?
The government and the opposition parties all promised a referendum. They all lied. There is no legitimacy and there will come a time when we unilaterally dump this into the rubbish bin where it belongs.
Are you blind to the fact that our civil liberties which have taken form through centuries of struggle are being slowly erroded away by this labour government which has now turned Great Britain into a satellite of a socialist European Union which we have never been given the opportunity to vote for. So much for the idea that our government is meant to serve the people.
are you just going to give in you pathetic coward , do something yourself to actively try to stop this treaty you surrender chimp, dont rely on corrupt goverment politicians to serve you.
do something about yourself to help the people who are to frightened and cowered into submission , spread the word , protest, do everything you can .
Thank you for your clarity. One more question though. Would UKIP keep Britain in the Eurpean Economic Area like Norway and Iceland or would it withdraw completely like Switzerland?
New trade associations could spring up; we already have the commonwealth and the anglosphere (including India) could be the basis for free trade and co-operation.
Again thank you for your clarity. Obviously, as you can see from my comments, I have a very different position on Europe. However, I do admire UKIP because at least we know what you stand for. I have not a clue what the Tory position on Europe is. Do they want to leave or do they want to stay? I think UKIP has a bright future because if the Tories get into power at the next election they will tear themselves apart over Europe.
UKIP will lead us out of Europe, negotiate a free trade agreement within Europe and put the power back to the people. In other words, bring democracy back to our country.
Yeah the perfect politicians to listen to if you like your politics dictated to you by people backed by American Neo-conservative groups such as The Heritage Foundation. Groups that were fundamental in producing the policies of the Bush Administration.
That's complete rubbish. The neocons hate the EU as they consider it a potential rival to American Hegemony. Business likes the EU because of the success of the Single Market.
It's hardly a succes when food price have gone up at £398 per household, and our farming industry is getting dismantled.
"The Taxpayers' Alliance, a lobby group, said that although the UK had nearly as much farmland as Germany, it only got 60 per cent of the level of grants that Germany got, while Britain got a fifth less money than Italy, despite having a seventh more farmland."
UKIP and Daniel Hannan are being deliberately disingenuous here when they state that the Lisbon Treaty is "self amending". The EU can propose amendments but these amendments must be ratified by the member state. So essentially any amendment must be ratified as if it were a new treaty. National Parliaments will still have the power to reject any amendment and just one parliament can kill any proposed amendment. Ireland will still have to hold a referendum. Europe does not become a superstate.
it's a good thing they give their word in writing about it not being self-amending... It would give them more credibility toward those types of promises if they kept their words and held referendums for the other member states. If they don't, what's to stop them from working around that the same way?
Incorrect. Governments hold a veto, not national Parliaments. Any amendments can be accepted by natioanl governments without having to go through each national parliament.
The power here lies with the government, not the Parliament - thee executive, not the representative legislature
All EU law stands above all member states constitutions.
If the EU makes a law regarding any subject, ALL laws in the future that is connected to that subject will be handled by the EU and the member states will no longer have any say in the matter.
All natural resources within the EU will be under direct control of the EU. No member state can claim the right to any natural resource within its (previously sovereign) territory.
According to Article 48 of the Lisbon Treaty the member states must ratify it "in accordance with their own constitutional requirements." This means a referendum would be held in Ireland and National Parliaments would have to ratify it in other states. The UK government does not have the power to approve the amending of international treaties only Parliament has this power.
Surely you can't deny that this new procedure is still hugely significant?
Up until now all changes to the EU have been made through grand treaties which draw substantial media attention and prompt serious debates within parliament and political circles. Each treaty amendment on its own would be not be worthy of such public scrutiny, but taken as a whole, the treaty commands significance.
Without this process, the EU can aggregate its powers gradually, and without resistance.
Sorry? EU directives are MANDATORY for all member states. Brussels already makes 75% of our laws and if Lisbon Treaty passes almost 100%. Is not a secret, Pottering and Barroso have admitted it. There is a "road map" to become a superstate. Look at the budget: the EU will increase by 3.4% in 2010 while government receipts drop everywhere.
Probably the two best British politicians on the scene. I sympathize with Hannan: he probably assumes the read to 10 Downing is through the Tories, not UKIP. But given his position on the EU and his economic philosophy, a strong case can be made that he's in the wrong party and belongs with UKIP. Politics...argh!
We had the Magna Carta but alas,LibLabCon have stolen it and replaced it with the Stalinist Lisbon treaty.
Oh,how the Europeans hate us.

Get your facts right.
Before the treaty, all it would have taken was an act of Parliament at Westminster. Now it will be costly and more complicated to leave.
However there's nothing to stop us unilaterally abrogating the treaty which happened to the Warsaw Pact and Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.
What could they do? Send in the EU navy?
On bonfire night (November 5th) there will be copies of the Lisbon treaty burned along with the EU flag.
We do not accept this treaty which has zero legitimacy.
