  • Donna donna 1. On a wagon bound for market There's a calf with a mournful eye. High above him there's a swallow Winging swiftly through the sky. How the winds are laughing They laugh with all their might Laugh and laugh the whole day through And half the summer's night. Dona dona dona dona Dona dona dona down Dona dona dona dona Dona dona dona don 2. "Stop complaining," said the farmer "Who told you a calf to be; Why don't you have wings to fly away Like the swallow so proud and free?"

  • I first heard this song when I was in grade 6. I remember it vividly.... sung by Donovan, I have never forgotten it. It was profound. And I never thought of it as Islamic, Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist or anything else.

  • @FeistyMalinois But in truth it is a Jewish song, and this is an English translation of the original Yiddish lyrics. This song gave hope and comfort to the Jewish people during the Nazi era

  • It's part of Soe Hok Gie movie from Indonesia..

I saw some versions in this you tube..

but, I think this and one by Joan Baez are the coolest one...

    not because I'm Indonesian...

    but, it's trully great..

  • Nice voice

  • Wonderful song, beautiful voice! I searched so many time! I'm so happy to finded! I lake't so much!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • That's the loveliest version of Dona Dona I've heard, makes me want to see the film. Incredible how a song born of suffering in one continent can now speak in different ways to the peoples of other continents and other times. May your joys overcome your sorrows, George.

    NO, DANGEROUSLY BUT BEAUTIFUL

  • No, dangerously beautiful.

  • This is one of the finest versions - the film of the young man looking at her and falling in love is great too!!

  • indonesia in the mid sixties....the year of living dangerously

  • Donovan, a chilled out folk singer in the nineteen sixties sang this but this version is brill!!!

  • Please...gue cari kaset soundtrack GIE susah banget

  • the most wonderful voice in Indonesia.

We heard this voice more and more and more and more at our room at PJJ PGSD FKIP UHAMKA
