@ThrashEagle Thanks for the kind words .Im glad you liked it . This is just home made music and Man of Constant Sorrow is a perfect song for home made playing !! All the best , Guy
Well start playin' man! :D I am 16, and am SO glad I started. You should start and enjoy it like I have. If you have a bad day, just pick up a guitar and play some tunes! Haha. Just start with basic chords and work your way from there.
@terresti like others have said: it's never too late to start learning. I only started playing a couple years ago (I'm 44 going on 45)...I'm not the most talented guitarist, but check out my vids. :-)
Anyone hearing Martin's rendition of this song as an instrumental will be very pleased for the time spent listening . 46k and rising of happy listeners . Congratulations to Martin for a very inspiring version of this song !! Thanks for the visit . GUy
The joy for me is playing with people . I have met so many nice people here at YT who I wish I lived closer to . I wish I could afford to retire in the Dales and play at sessions and folk clubs all over the UK . Thanks for the kind comment ! Yours Guy
Hello and thanks for the interest .. I play a lot of banjo in gDGCD or sawmill tuning and thought I would play in D sus4 instead of G sus 4 . Thats how I first came across DADGAD . On banjo first . Because of that this version has a lot of the style of simple banjo lines which fits the song well . You are correct when you say this is just out of my head.. The old way of learning a song is to be "given it" by another player.. This is the wonderful part of what we can all get from youtube .
Also a bit more to Geoff : Like going to session half of what Ive put up on YT has been responding to something great here that reminded me of something that might be pertinent to someone . All the best , Guy
Thanks twigleaf2 , Its just playing every day . If its fun for you to try you will learn how to do it .Give it time ! I was your age when I got my first banjo . I gave one to a girl friend ,then one to my brother . Finally I got one for myself . Good luck and thanks for the visit ! Yours Guy
That's a great truth Guy, "If its fun for you to try you will learn how to do it." Lots of folks chase tunes like some sort of check list , ticking off boxes as they go and in competition with others. 'Just don't get what it's all for...
Loved your version, played with great soul. More power to your elbow.
Hello Geoff , As a kid I knew some great players who "owned" two or three songs at most but they were their songs by the time they learned them . Got them from a friend or family member , not so much from the radio or records .
I agree that playing good music or great music for that matter and competitive thoughts are completely counterproductive. I can think of one great professional group I know that went to counseling as a group for just that reason !!
Thanks, I wish I had more of a voice but at least a song is of this type allows for anyone to give it a try . I do love home made music for that reason .. All the best , Guy
Hey Jim thanks for the visit and the really kind words .. I do with I was closer so we could play at a session together !!At least we have YT ... Yours Guy
Thanks for having a listen 1wiesehofer1 . DADGAD has the same intervals as sawmill tuning on banjo sus4 in D instead of sus4 in G on banjo gDGCD . Both lend themselves to working in DORIAN mode ..You can also try sawmill tuning on guitar by adding a C note to G tuning DGDGCD . All the best , Guy
This is my FAVORITE version of this song on YouTube. It gives me cold chills. :D
