The missing factor is expense, not to build the robot, but to lose it. War is about the cost of loss... thus, you can't just rush in and shoot. Different politic... just like humans don't run into a situation shooting, they can't afford... to die.

They try to make this sound awesome but really though, it's probably a bunch of lame little robots whirring quietly and racing around the arena at 1/1000 MPH. Not to mention the airsoft rifles they have strapped on that even when they manage to hit, do absolutely nothing.

These hobby-robots of yesterday, still contain tons of body stress, they haven't figured out how to stop it from shacking like it's having a seizure. Take a look at the autombile industry, they figured it out, they use springs, with help from the wheels to keep the body to hold a perfect balance. 5 years has passed, nothing new has come to light, body parts are still fixed metal plates, really, if it's a hobby, you should quit while still behind. Take a cue from Aldebaran, for Pette's sake.

@jackkollan I made one with a .22 cal and a mini flamethrower (the flames can penetrate cans) :D. Metal BBs work well too but I don't think you're allowed anything other than small plastic BBs.

This is fricken awesome. Being a huge mechwarrior fan from back in the MechWarrior 2 era, this is pretty spectacular. Very much like that you have to use an onboard camera for orientation and aiming. That makes all the difference in the world. First person is key.

The video explained it, they don't really "KILL" Each other. They have custom built sensor boards that is pressure sensitive which relays a signal to show how many hits each Mech has taken.

@JaredProject 22 caliber guns on those robots would be like a massive cannons that would have a great deal of kick back for their size. They would technically be more like an artillery unit with that kinda fire power or if you like, think of it as a bazooka. Would be neat if they could make real micro sized weapons and bullets but for their size it would be extremely difficult but amazing if they could.

That was actually just a camera-bot. We didn't have any Hexapod entries this year. It's tough to move fast when you have that much extra equipment (guns, target panels, wifi camera, scoring transponder, ammo, etc) loaded onto your robot.

@CreatMind The Hexapod shown was just being used as a camera-bot for some matches. That said, we did actually open up a Hexapod League for Mech Warfare but did not have any entries for the first year. I believe a few people are building for them for next year however (myself included). They would indeed have a mobility and payload advantage over the bipeds and quads, which is why they are in their own separate league.
