Love this video, medley is all in elisabeth cotten freight train mode, looks like sweet Joan has found the peace she has been fighting for, for so long... John Doyle is great too.
She's singing them all in the same key, and everything is more or less in the tune of "freight train" - Railroad Bill and What a Friend We Have in Jesus sound quite different when sung alone. These are lovely, her lower register has always been so rich, I love when she sings down there :)
I know the first two songs "like the back of my hand" from the 1960s, but I don't remember hearing her do them as a medley. They were independent songs. The last one, I just don't have much memory of at all. For what it's worth!
@martamima Libba Cotton did Freight Train and What a Friend We Have In Jesus (written in my home town of Port Hope by Joseph Scriven) on her first record called Negro Folk Songs and Tunes. It has been re-released on CD and retitled Folk Songs And Tunes From North Carolina.

Her What A Friend was remarkable, I have wanted her to do this song for years!
She should record a whole album of old hymns with just piano or guitar.
