Wow, the mother's jealous of his son's lovers, that's classic hitchcock having a clinging over-protective mother(psycho, the birds, etc), but I think this is probably the earliest incident of that I've seen.
The look on Cary Grant's face at 3:12 - pure anger!! His retort was a total 24 carat sarcsam. The guy who took his wrath looked like he was totally owned up!!
Did they have birth-control then? I think not! It's funny when she was discussing marriage the guys never said "Don't get pregnant"."That doesn't fit into our plans,it wd. sure complicate things". Even if she had gotten pregnant the nazii's still wd. of killed her. They killed babies all the time in the war.
They did have birth control, but it wasn't as effective as todays stuff, and it may have been suspicious if she was using it because Sebastian might have wanted a baby. The Nazis only killed babies that were deformed or disabled, and Jewish babies. Yeah they were pretty mean.
Reminds me of my Grammy. She loved hats. Very stylish lady. Hats are fabulous. They draw attention to the face, where it's supposed to be. The ultimate accessory!
His issues were not essentially negative ones.Often his leading female characters were intelligent ambitious but hurt. He deals a lot with the Mother Son relationships ( exception of Marnie) . He also played to the misogony of the time , the comments in Frenzy about rape etc. Love his films
I agree. And you see here with Devlin's speech at around 3:10 a sort of oblique feminism penetrating the plot. The agent makes a comment about what "kind of woman" Alicia is, and Devlin is quick to point out that she's risking her life for their mission, when all that the rest of the men are concerned with is her shady history. And just the fact that it's a woman doing all the dangerous undercover work says something, really. Good comment, "clairefrilly."
GOD! delvin's such an IDOT!!! "well, gee, i never believed you had changed for a minute and im not surprised you screwed sebastian" one minute and then defending her honor the next! MAKE UP OUR MIND!!!

I am amazed at Bergman's performance, if only people would act like that still.

At the racetrack, I just know she wanted to take her shoe off and hit Dev upside the head. He kinda had it coming.

Take it with a grain of salt, but IMDB lists Bergman at 5'9, Rains at 5'6 1/2, and Grant at 6'1 1/2.

Love her hat in 3:51. It's the kind of hat my Mother wore. It's so iconographic but , if someone wore that hat now, she would be out of place.
