  • After watching this, i have no doubts about one thing: Ravel composed this Bolero thinking about the possibility of Jorge Donn would dance it.

  • I think this is Jorge Donn actually, not Nureyev...

  • This is Jorge Don!

  • straordinario Jorge Donn! the best in the world forever!

  • the best male dancer for ever DONN

  • The choreography wasn't very creative, practically always doing contractions and having an overuse of port des bras. His lines weren't that amazing, either. And he barely traveled. Yes, I know it's a small stage, but he could have at least MOVED. And he had an attraction for the audience. Being en face isn't all what it's cracked up to be. A little variety would be nice!

He's obviously a dancer and a good one at that, but sometimes you aren't given the best choreography. What was this for?

  • sometimes we aren''t aware of what's behind the choreography, so it's difficult to understand it.

Somewhere I read that this was a legend (story) about a spiritual ritual, hope someone can explain it to us better

  • TO understand a little bit better you have to watch "les uns et les autres" a french film from the year 1981. The filmmmaker Claude Lelouch want to explain, that the live of the kids is more or less the live of the parents. a veru intresting idea.

  • that is the final scene of the film "les uns et les autres" by Claude Lelouch, very moving and deep film.. and in the film he was playing Nureyev,(even if the character was not identified) and I believe he was very restricted because of camera angle issues..

  • his soo cool

  • Inolvidable. Gracias.

  • this is definitely not Nureyev. this is Jorge Donn, born in Argentina and the principal dancer of the ballet of the 20th century. Bolero was created for him by Maurice Bejart.

  • eww. nasty.

  • ah si belle! le video est magnifique!

  • i agree, the best male dancer. this gives me the chills.

  • Jorge Donn fue un inigualable bailarin, de nacionalidad Argentina, no brasileño como posteo alguien aqui.

    Lamentablemente fallecido hace algunos años.

  • i love the fact that pliseskya dances the same version of choreography basically. she is my new new goddes of dance. the power out of her. he is amazing too. and yes misha was a great dancer great. the reason i started i this business many years ago. and yeah nureyev was amazing too. what an actor and temperment. died all alone i think. i think he did not really have friends. .sad. he tried to pick me up on a street when i was 19 in paris. but i said no.

  • This is almost identical to Maya Plisetskaya's interpretation of Ravel's Bolero.

  • Rudolph Nureyev was more male than this

  • This is not Rudolph Nureyev.

  • Correct, this is jorge donn, a Brazilian dancer.

Look to me the famous Bolero interpretation of Maurice Bejart (ballet of the 20th century).

Of course, i could be wrong :)

  • you are right it is Donn Jorge in is role in the film "les unes et les autres were (haha) he was supposed to play Nureyev.. sadly Rudy never danced the bolero... But I'm sure it would have been fantastic.:-)

  • Nureyev did dance this.

  • This is the end of the film "les unes et les autres" , and the dancer is Jorge Donn.

    Nureyev sadly never danced Bolero

  • thank you :)

  • This is not nureyev, lads. Not at all. This is Jorge Donn, an Argentinian dancer, very talented, whose bolero was considered as his masterpiece. In the movie from which this is extracted, Jorge Donn's character is inspired by Rudi Nureyev. But it was not nureyev who played in the movie.

  • Yes, you're right. This is not Nureyev. He never danced that ballet (unfortunately). This is a frequent mistake...

  • joWlovesballet no one said he wasn't great, just not the best

  • Do you know about Maracatu of Pernambuco - Brazil? It's very similar...

    Clarissa Pires

  • First of all, i think that the coreography works very well for both male and female ballet dancers because the majority of Beart's coreography is overtly sexual. Secondly, For those of you saying that Nureyev wasn't that great you are full of shit and if he were still alive you'd shoot yourself in the foot before you'd dare say that.

  • Nureyev wasn't the best btw

  • Nureyev wasnt the best ? I guess Baryshnikov was, then. but Rudi was unique nonetheless

  • I disagree. If you're holding out for Baryshnikov, beware. Difference in overall quality of technique is small. (If you haven't seen his tours en l'air, you should.)

More significantly, Nureyev had characterization down to a fine art in the earliest work I've seen. He and Fonteyn scorched the screen in parts of Romeo and Juliet.

Early Baryshnikov I've seen doesn't show depth in characterization, though I'm told that as recent DVD orders come in, I'll see he later learned to act very well.

  • My comment above refers to someone who disagrees with someone else who has said Nureyev is the best male ballet dancer of our time. I didn't realize it would pop to the top out of context. The otherwise nice video here is NOT Nureyev.

  • Qué belleza recordar esta película.

Qué bello verlo a él, en mi memoria siempre!!!

    Gracias por este post!

  • How sad he died. Wonderful dancer!

  • This is the final part of the film "les uns et les autres"

  • If I remember it right, it was the beginning

  • Amazing video, very nice to watch it again...thanks

  • The dancer is Jorge Donn, from Argentina, the last deep Maurice Bejart's lover. Saldy, he passed away very young, by HIV.

  • The dancer is Jorge Dunn of the Bejart company. He is now deceased; saw him do this role in New York City. The part was created for a woman, and Susanne Farrell, Maya Plisetskaya and Angele Albrecht are among those who have danced it. Doesn't work for a guy.

  • I now is not nureyev, this dance is to requiem for nureyev

  • No isn't as requiem for Nureyev. When this dance was cerated Nureyev was alive actually Jorge Donn the dancer in this video died before Nureyev did. Both the same reason, AIDS

  • Please please! the guy dancing is not Nureyev ... oh my good what a mistake!

  • I don't believe that's Nureyev. Isn't that a Maurice Bejart choreography, though?
