  • Dear ROMANporn69 from all at the Elephant 6 collective. Fuck you.

  • *yawn* garbagio

  • Sounds like nyangs from NOS at the beginning, damn trippy

  • this is amazing

  • "As Seen On:

    LSD"

    just yes

  • How shite is that?

  • this album changed my life when i first heard it in 2006. yes i am a late bloomer

  • @brewluvr same for me lol this album is so nostalgic for me reminds me of when i first got out of highschool and the world kind of opened up to me in all sorts of ways (travelling sex drugs music people etc)

  • Wow, this sucks,

  • @rocketgr <3 you're awesome. keep doing what you do.

  • @rocketgr why so? peace

  • @rocketgr Can you elaborate?

  • Holy shit. This is one of those bands that I've been telling myself to listen to for years but I just kept forgetting... god it's magnificent.

  • don't care for the distortion, but I'm liking the faux-seventies sound.

  • This song is so psychedelic. Wow.

  • I can't find my freaking black foliage cd itself, so i'm using the youtube. this is one of my favorite songs to dance to, thats why i'm playing it so i can dance.

dance everyone!!! otc 2011 labor day day day weekend

  • get to see em in New Orleans soon :)

  • @2bdragons well tell me who in the line up because that's like one of their first shows!!! pretty please

  • @prittyugly86 Yea it's the first show so they will bring the fire! I'll let ya know for sure. I hear that One Eyed Jacks is a small nice venue so I'm excited :) been listening to em a long time and never thought I would get to see them live

  • @prittyugly86 the show was amazing!!! I was right in the front. They were really happy to be there, even got a set list

  • This reminds me of the Beatles...such a good song.

  • Pretty amazing!

  • There has never been anything more Elephant 6

  • Is there a heavier version of this? I love the beginning and would love to hear that brought out?

  • Stheno & Euryale are worth checking if you like this

  • This is fucking beautiful. what a completely new level

  • when jeff mangum sings the chorus,,, it gives me chills :) i love him.

  • FAVORITE SONNNG!

  • :)

  • protein powder is a waste product of pasturized milk from grain fed caged cows that rots in your stomach. raw liquid whey from free rang goats on the other hand is amazing.

  • @iwasbornspecial

Milk tastes great. Take you free range organic shit and go fuck yourself.

  • @vleon1012 Oh dear, now I feel very unhealthy - it makes me want to get very stoned and floooooat awaaaaay....

  • The first time I heard it I knew it had to be Jeff Mangum.

  • I believe Jeff Mangum is singing at 1:30

  • @NightRanger77

    yes actually it is.

  • It's the moment that i discover something so magic and so full of melody. It's the moment i know that none of this new rnb generation will Ever understand what makes real music. LexMan89 God bless you!

  • @chrisliammm Plenty of us wee ones understand that millenial R & B is shit, my friend.

  • @Zerojimm naw dawgg

  • @beastlyonion huh?

  • @Zerojimm "Millenial R & B" isnt shit.. u just dont like it

  • @beastlyonion To each his own, I guess. To me It's like the sonic equivalent of everything that was shitty about high school. Songs about fucking ("makin' luuuv"), "soulful" girls singing all alike (oooOOOoohhhOOO...), songs about partying with all the sexy people and being oh-so chill about everything. Ptooi. I also find it suspicious that all the top 40 stars looked like models. Makes me wonder, how much does it have to sexiness and how much does it have to do with talent?

  • @Zerojimm the celebrity doesn't matter dude, anyone.... anyone could do it if they are told they are and then surrounded by the love and attention of the entire northern hemisphere and given the means to buy anything their heart desires for their supposed talents. All the celebrity does is acts like a channel for the for the money to go from all of us to whatever company is endorsing the celebrity. Theyre just a face for us to love and trust and pay. As for how they do it thats different lol

  • @beastlyonion Yes, but acquiring all that love and attention is a very rare accomplishment, and it's accomplished most often by people with a very high level of romantic and/or sex appeal. And you're right that their talent is indeed "supposed". That's essentially what I was getting at. When it all comes together, it's a pile of sexy shit, at least in my eyes.

  • is that Jeff Mangum singing at around 1:30 in the background? sounds a lot like him, and i know he was in the band at one point. did he help record this album?

  • @alex93metallica Yes sir, That would be the legend himself singing in the 2nd chorus. If you listen to this with headphones on, I believe you can hear Jeff on the Right side. And yes he helped record. I believe it was drums and some other instruments.

  • @alex93metallica - I dunno if there's really a way to tell, they were all good friends and contributed to everyone's albums. This album was released in 1999, after Jeff dismembered NMH, but that doesn't mean he wasn't floating in and out of the studio. : )

  • @CouganSmith Jeff is definately singing here. It says so in the credits of the Cd i have.

  • @Robinhoodarch - Cool.

  • @alex93metallica He does some vocals as well as precussion and guitar on this track and a few others on this album.

  • @alex93metallica that's definitely him

  • @alex93metallica It's Jeff. It's in the liner notes, fools.

  • wheres the acid when u need it?

  • No, this isn't Jeff Mangum per se, but he DOES have a part in this song. So does Kevin Barnes.

  • @spiffykimbean

kevin barnes has a part in this song? thats REALLY unexspected. but pretty kool. i didnt know he did any work with them

  • whoever was singing at 1:30,the one you can hear better, really makes my jaw hurt. I feel like that guy was jutting his jaw out as far as he can... keep doing it man because soon you wont be able too. seriously....remaINEEEEE bad job. tension is the enemy and the TMJ is the most commonly dislocated joint. His mandibular condyle is going to break.

wow i feel way better after hating on him. I feel like i just got something off my chest.

I'm going to follow them around California 2011 E6HS!!!

  • Thats Jeff Mangum dude....

  • @silentsean602 This isn't Jeff Mangum.

  • @TheCrimper . dude it is, i wouldnt waste my time to correct you if I was wrong. I have the cd in the liner notes it says Jeff Mangum vocals on track 13. its clearly obvious its him at the exact moment. Thats the beauty of the Elephant 6 they all play with each other. He also plays drums on Circulatory System's first album ganna deny that as well?

  • @silentsean602 +1 hipster credits to you sir.

  • @silentsean602 I prefer Derek Almstead as a drummer for the Circulatory System especially on their first album. Jeff magnum doesn't give me that throw yourself back or to the side feeling like Derek Almstead, Ringo, or Max Roach does. and I NEED that. Jeff did an okay job on sleepy company but i saw Heather playing drums live for them on one video here and she totally blew him out of the water whether she meant to or not it was just plain fact.

  • @prittyugly86 Did Mangum do any drumming on Signal Morning besides Round Again?

  • @Lazy0Waffle I don't know... he didn't do any drumming tonight or the night before that at the holiday surprise.... speaking of signal morning, I got derek and john to sign my booklet.

  • @silentsean602 that's not stylistically pleasing to me.

  • Man how can anyone hate any of Jeff Magnum's early stuff when it led to such beauty later down the line. Unless of course they don't like his later stuff, than it is understandable. But I like this and it is amazing how different Neutral Milk Hotel sounds compared to this

  • Way too Beatles-like. Get over them, they were overrated.

  • @Citadin i will pray for you. I feel so sorry for you :'(

  • How is being similar to the Beatles a bad thing? >_>

  • @Lazy0Waffle the Beatles represent a kind of a generic lowest-common denominator mid/late 60s sound. Instead of idolizing them, one should spend some time digging up a lot of the more interesting fantastic music from that era, most of it happened in the margins.

  • @Citadin But they did, they took inspiration from the Beach Boys and other bands of the era. I think it's kind of silly to dislike a band for being overrated or being too similar to another band. If you enjoy it, you enjoy it.

  • one of my favorite songs by them

  • Jeff's voice is so strong and unique, I wish he sang more in The Olivia Tremor Control...

  • I feel like I'm floating

  • Jeff Mangum is becoming one of my favorites... I love Neutral Milk Hotel, and this is amazing as well...

  • this is awesomeeee

  • It sometimes makes me feel so lonely. Thinking about the relationships everyone had in this band and the other bands in the Elephant 6...

I wish I had some really good friends like that...

  • this song is completely overwhelming. like my ear-drums just drowned. it's delicious.

  • @Stereomon0 Says the metal-fag.

  • @Stereomon0 fuck

    you

  • @jamescracksthesky

    No thanks.

  • So... Could someone tell me who is the singer at 1:59. I'm only now realizing that it is the same voice as in "Madam Truffle" by Major Organ and the Adding Machine. I mean I knew that the two groups had some of the same members but I never really learned who it was... I always had assumed it was Kevin Barnes singing in a weird voice or something... haha

  • @Tribune12345 Jeff Mangum, no?

  • @randjoycevonnegut That's kind of what I was thinking but I don't know why he was singing so differently in Olivia Tremor and Major Organ but not on any Neutral Milk Hotel recordings or his older tapes.

  • @Tribune12345 I'm assuming its Jeff Mangum.. I could be wrong

  • 1:30... i could die after hearing this section and it would be just fine

  • haha oh my god this is so awful

  • this song makes me think of high schoolers having slow kundalini orgies. sweet.

  • i can't stop listening

  • Speaking of doing drugs, I had a bad trip in college after smoking pot that caused me to have horrible panic attacks for 24+ hours. But when I listened to this album, I felt so calm and at peace. I'd listened to the album hundreds of times before that and never felt that effect. I thought I could hear the band members talking to me behind the music, and it was so relaxing. Anyway, I figure there must have been something else in that weed, but that's my story...

  • Just do drugs.

  • This song is orgasmic.

  • I finally listened to these guys for the first time today, and I can safely say this song is the closest I'll ever get to an acid trip. Is that Jeff Mangum singing at the second chorus?

  • @MercuryClock get closer.

  • jee-zus!

  • oh god, I love it.

  • Just heard this song on sirius xmu. I love it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just heard this song on sirius xmu. I love it

  • love.

  • Scooby dooby doo where are you?

  • It's magic.

  • It's like Neutral Milk Hotel and The Beatles had a baby.

  • @TheCrimper and by some miracle those two babies fucked ...this is would be the shit they birthed

  • @1gaywood Where are you getting the 2nd baby from?

  • @TheCrimper no it's like a picture of their music fucking :)

  • @TheCrimper AHHAH i typed in i like neutral milk hotel and the beatles and i got this suggested

  • @TheCrimper The Beatles had a baby named Neutral Milk Hotel.

  • The only bad thing about this song is that it reminds me how good the album is.. and I lost that a year ago :( Man I love these guys.

  • this is absolutely fantastic!

  • when it should learn to speak before it melts away

and thus express that each have words no one else will say

i have been floated to this thought this hour

on a series of events i cannot explain

gather yer wits, your will, your luck, yer power

that what it would effect that will not remain

a light shines through a little hole the hole's inside somewhere

the spiracle's obedience it is true (i swear (honestly))

  • I want to bang this song.

  • I started listening ot Olivia Tremor Control after I read of their connection with Neutral Milk Hotel/Jeff Mangum.vAwesome bands are always connected, if you look hard enough,

What a lovely song. The album itself is surreal. Going beyond music..into another realm.

  • I really need to dig this record out again.. simply delicious to my ears

  • If it should learn to speak before it melts away.. it would express that each had words that no one else would say.. i have been floated to this thought this hour on series of events.. i can not explain...

(i can taste the acid on my spin everytime i hear those lyrics)

P.S. i think its "the spirit gos obedience" not sure. .thats what i hear. thanks for the post... someone needs to put up more of the black foliage album. their best by far.

  • i fully agree (with the acid part too)

  • easily their best song. saw them 2005 at ArthurFest in LA. sooo good...got to hang out with bassist john fernandes afterwards during the Yoko Ono set. good times.

  • Saw these guys tonight in Philly. They were great

  • Where were they in philly?

  • Jeff Mangum sings on this song!!!! :D

  • I always thought I liked the chorus at 1:29 the best.

  • a 14sec offsync seems to work really well.... i mean.... really terribly... something

  • LOL. Cosigned!

  • Wow, this is amazing!!! I'm living in Georgia now and I didn't know anything about this bad. Can anyone provide me with more information? I'd appreciate that. thanks

  • The Olivia Tremor Control was an Athens, Georgia indie rock band in the mid- to late 1990s which, along with The Apples in Stereo and Neutral Milk Hotel, was one of the three original Elephant 6 projects.[1] The band was founded by the remnants of the group Synthetic Flying Machine (Jeff Mangum, Bill Doss, and Will Cullen Hart) in 1994 and disbanded in early 2000. this is from wikipedia

  • What I generally do when I listen to this song is open two tabs and listen to them together out of synch. It's awesome.

  • why

  • just tried that that is amazing:D

  • ha! half of the time it sounds really cool, the other half it feels like I'm going to break my speakers!

Toward the end you can't even tell it's off. Good idea gobbleykins!

  • I just tried that, and you seriously made my day.

  • i did that by accident recently on pink mountaintops song 'vampire', i didn't realise until the end op the song that i'd opened anohter youtube of the same song three seconds behind, now i can't listen to the song without doing it, check it out

  • actually almost 2 seconds not 3

  • i feel like i should do drugs after listening to this song

    xp

  • No, you should do drugs WHILE listening to this song.

  • hahaha.

to bad i dont do drugs...

    otherwise i would!

    :D

  • @LexMan89 no you should do drugs immediatly BEFORE listenning to this song

  • @LexMan89 It's too late, you should already have been on drugs by the time you heard this song

  • @LexMan89 NO, you should do drugs before listening to it

  • @LexMan89 One step ahead of you.

  • @LexMan89 i have done drugs to this song

  • @LexMan89 no, he should listen to the drugs while doing this song!!!

  • @LexMan89 No, music is the drug ;^)

  • @GabbiGunman I think yo should do drugs before, while, and after listening to this song ; )

  • @GabbiGunman Also, before

  • this is farout chillin

  • itake acid drops to my dome and get naked and run thru the woods to this song

  • Where at?

  • ohh that was you

  • this song is tasty

  • Great tune. REM, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Olivia Tremor Control are my favorite Athens, GA bands of all time. Black Foliage is an incredible album.

  • Are there any more Athens, GA bands of note?

  • B52's?

  • I didn't know the B-52's were from Athens. Interesting.

Now I'm envisioning (enhearing?) an alternate version of Love Shack with Scott Spillane on horns and tape loops up the wazoo. Also, Michael Stipe is standing in for Fred Schneider.

    Thanks a lot.

  • i always sing the chorus to myself, i love the videos of elephant 6 all singing it together.

  • Elephant 6 rocks

  • only 225 views and 3 comments?

a band that uses a therimin deserves more respect.

  • @monstercoskater ps. it's a singing saw, they used it live :)

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe you like it because it's good?
