  • hi whats the law in Virginia to make one of those semis a pickup i hope i hope i dont have to get a CDL for that

  • what transmission is in it

  • Its basically a butchered truck/semi yet somehow it has a neat look to it... nice LOL

  • @XHustonProductionsX Yeah, I really prefer my trucks full size, but just wanted to do something different with this one. For one because I wanted to be able to avoid the truck scales and things. I just wish I had been able to paint the bed to match before doing these videos, and now I sold it so oh well.

  • perhaps a slight chop of the roof would suit it

  • Very interesting innovation you have...

Did you leave the fifth wheel on, or was it removed in favor of the bed?

  • @TheDarkLordLink No fifth wheel. I actually bought it as a dump truck that had just had the dump bed removed, so there was no fifth wheel hitch to start with.

  • @dasani110 Ah, I see.

  • I want a 362 Cabover Pete built this way!

  • @billandbeaufort Yeah that would be cool

  • Except for the "Communist States" (on the East & West Coasts) most of us can register as a private truck. This enables us to park in our driveways, no CDL, no weigh stations etc. Also lower (much) insurance costs.

  • @billandbeaufort Here in California that law says that if it has a pickup bed on it, and is only two axles, it does not require a CDL, or stopping at weigh stations, and insurance and registrations was quite cheap on this truck. That's exactly why I built it like this. I own other full size trucks, and I prefer my trucks full size, but I built this one specifically so I could avoid truck scales and things:-)

  • no freakien air horns? what the dilio!!!

  • @space1bandit I took them off the top of the cab and mounted them under the bed. I couldn't not have air horns, but I just didn't want anything on the top of the cab.

  • Dose it still have the jakes on it?? my future wife wont let me do this lol

  • @illstandbyyou Yep sure does. I mean, I sold it so I don't have it now, but yeah, I had to make the jake brake work on it:-)

  • Would one need their CDL to drive it?

  • @97IrishRacing Not in California because it is only two axles and registered under 26,000 pounds. But in other states I'm not sure. Some people tell me that in their states because it has air brakes, you have to have a CDL to drive it. I personally think that is BS because my research shows that nowhere in the US do air brakes alone cause a requirement for a CDL. But I was wrong about something once before:-)

  • @dasani110 I can agree with you on the CDL thing. I DO know that you MUST have a CDL if the gross vehicle weight is 26,000 lbs and air brakes is just another endorsement but having to get a CDL just because it has air brakes...I don't think so. Very cool truck, my man! Kudos.

  • only thing i would chnage is lower the stacks to the top of the cab. awesome truck

  • @hammerdwn20 That definitely would have made it more parking garage friendly:-)

  • Single cab, short bed, big engine, taken to the extreme! I really like this. I might give it a whirl some day. Maybe with a more angular bed, though that Dodge bed works well. I have an evil idea that requires a transfer case and a Rockwell. I must thank you for the inspiration!

  • @mikeb1444 Yeah, I wanted so bad to make this one four wheel drive.

  • NOW THAT'S A TRUCK!!!

now for some black paint on the bed and good to go. :)

  • 1:02 LMAO!!! That's amazing! Just saying, but that's just freaking awesome! I've never seen a truck like this w/ a pickup bed. Too bad it isn't longer... It'd be freakin' epic with both drive axles, and an extended bed! ;D

  • I like it! it looks almost military

  • you need to take that ugly ass dodge bed off and put a steel flat bed on it it would look alot better that way

  • @countrytillidie93 Buy yourself one and build it how you want.

  • I think would have looked better with a 87-97 ford dually bed

  • @343ofFDNYsBRAVEST Maybe you should build one that way then.

  • looks cool but... these things ride harshwith no trailer, as if it doesnt have a suspension and handle like crap. personally id rather have a actual pu if i had to drive it everyday.

  • @440sac To tell you the truth......I completely agree. ha ha That's one of the reasons I sold it. It was a VERY rough riding truck. Even though it had air suspension, and I adjusted the equalizer valve so there was very little air pressure in the air bags, it was still a very rough ride that just jarred my brains out when I would drive it. It was a fun toy, but definitely not a daily driver, that's for sure!

  • So what kind of frame did you use for this? This is a pretty sweet setup.

  • @blacksmokincummins01 It's just got the 3/8 inch frame that was under it stock.

  • Nice

  • Do you use it for work..Or is it just a project you like to work on?

  • if you were to sell it how much would u sell it for. thats like my dream vehicle.

  • @Trucker06660 I actually allready sold it for $10,000. If I had finnished painting it, and fixing it up more, I probably could have sold it for a lot more.

  • @dasani110 aw dude that sucks. Im gonna get like $10,000 when I turn 21 If you still had it i would have gladly bought it from you. oh well kickass truck though

  • I love the pick up truck...

  • I am wanting to do the same thing but with a Day cab cabover. My idea for a bed is a step side bed widened out so the sides are even with the cab sides and the fenders now act like a set of dually fenders.Mount a 2nd set inside the bed so it is like a standard pickup truck dually bed with inner fender humps and dually hips.

  • i like our vehicle

  • thats looks like it needs to be a camper pullin unit

  • That truck is NICE.

  • Nawt bad,, yes, Very nice rig! Beastie it up! MOre CAT power! :) I enjoyed.. thank you,.

  • like your truck its awesome does it have jake brakes on it too

  • awsome thanks for the reply. good job on the pete ill keep checking up

  • ok so no cdl because its under 26000 i get that but what about air brakes? please reply!!!!!!!!

  • @poppamosher Even if a vehicle has air brakes, as long as it is registered and used under 26,000 pounds, you do not need a CDL to drive it. There are plenty of motorhomes and things out there with air brakes that do not require a CDL to drive. I guess they figure the fact that it has air brakes is only so important when it is used commercially over 26,000 pounds. I don't quite understand all the laws.

  • @dasani110 what wheel base are you running on that.

  • @dasani110 yer close you dont need a CDL for air brakes unless ur working for somebody els for example my grandpa has a dump truck over 26000 gross with air brakes and he dosnt need a CDL unless he wants to haul for other ppl

  • @TRUKER96 It varies from state to state. But in California, regardless of how you intend to use the truck, if it has three axles, and is used for more than 26,001 pounds, you have to have a commercial drivers license to drive it. If it has only two axles, and is used over 26,001 pounds, in California you still have to have a commercial drivers license to drive it regardless of air brakes. California is screwy for sure. So two axles, and under 26,001 pounds is the only way to go here.

  • @poppamosher But yeah, it doesn't matter whether this thing is "Capable" of grossing out at a hell of a lot more than 26,000 pounds. What matters in California anyway, is it's intended use and how it is registered. So if I went out and hauled more weight than I had it registered for, then I would be screwed big time.

  • is the pick up bed so you can haul lots of stuff like a couch. HAHA just kidding. That's pretty cool. Good old B models. Best CAT ever made. To bad they don't make em like that anymore. Al gore and his queer tree hugging homo buddys making it so you pollute the air just by breathing it. I hope a big hole opens up and swallows the whole lot of them.

  • Sweet Pete! Like to see her when you finish fixing her up (though I know these type of project are never really finished, always more that can be done!) Check out my Peterbult Camper "Cactus Pete". Good luck & stay safe out there!

  • hey buddy i love the truck i have some ?? for you. is that the peterbilt frame, does it have a jake break and did you just cut the back axle of and move the other one up?? if you could answer these that would be great , i took a 1970 W900 cab of a frame to put on a dodge diesel 5 speed , but it looks beter your way thanks for your time

  • @rollingthunder379 Yeah, I have seen other guys do that where they take the cab and hood off and put it on a dodge ram frame. But I wanted it to still be a heavy duty truck with the full size CAT engine. So yeah, all I did was cut the frame a lot shorter, took the front drive axle off, and moved the rear drive axle forward to where it would match the wheel wells of the bed. I think it was a lot easier than having to fabricate mounts for the cab and hood to put them on a pickup frame.

  • @dasani110 Was it much trouble to do that? Bc that truck looks awesome, an' thats no joke! Gotta have me a truck like that someday.

  • ugly

  • we built a 359 also, it's a blast driving these things down the road you can't imagine how many people stop and try top figure it out, and not even just truck people but everybody. you guys are doing a great job with it and if we can help with any advice, or even parts get in touch with me at The Chrome Shop in Bald Knob Arkansas our video is on here too just search for chrome junkie pickup and it should come up

  • put a load of concrete in that bed, and let us youtubers listen to that CAT WORK!!

  • I saw pictures on a website where some guys took a retired '69 KWhopper nad put a pickup bed on it. Pretty sick if ya ask me. and good job so far!

  • Nice rig! I like what you're doing to it!

  • that thing is awsome the truck sounds great

  • how much do u have invested in this beast so far?

  • @kyleimali Just about $10,000 total so far.

  • @dasani110 put clearance and chicken lights on it

  • @dasani110 and wheres the fuel tank at

  • now that is my kind of a truck! What is the critical aspect of it that let's you classify it as a non-commercial vehicle and then not have to stop at weigh stations etc?

I had a very large step van with an 8.2 Detroit in it, on an F700 frame .. I registered it as an RV but I was still hit with parking tickets because they said that even though it was registered as an RV, it 'looked like' and was 'as big as' a commercial vehicle. I read the law they applied and it's not clear who's right.

  • @maxhauler That sucks that they pulled that on you. I'm not sure how the law would go as far as making an exception for something like this. I guess it is sadly up to those who interpret it however they please, and I have no tolerance for that! If someone wants to try writing me a ticket for driving this thing down a street that says "No commercial vehicles" I will take them to court. I might lose, but I will try my darndest to fight it.

  • @maxhauler The problem is, in most states "Pickup trucks" are still considered "commercial" so technically this truck is still registered and insured as a commercial truck. But the critical aspect that keeps me from having to stop at truck scales is the fact that it is a "Pickup" as defined by California law. If I had custom built the bed, and made it over 9 feet long, then it would not have fallen under the definition of pickup since the law says with a bed 9 feet long or less.

  • What was required to register it under 26000,I plan on buying another truck and using it for a RV.

  • @guywithcowboyhat Well, all I had to do was go into the dmv and fill out a Declared operating weight form, and first had to register it at 20,000 pounds because the title showed that it weighed 17,500 or something like that, so I couldn't register it for any less that 20,000 since the next one below that was 15,000. So I went to a public scale and had it weighed since removing the other axle and everything, and it weighs 13,320 now, so I was able to register it at 15,000 for a lot less money.

  • @dasani110 So yeah, basically it's not like they are going to tell you you can't in California anyway since it is based on the "Intended" operating weight, and not the actual gvwr of the truck. I got a new title that lists the updated empty weight, and shows it as VA which is their code for "Other commercial" since their computer system would not let them enter it as a "Pickup" like I was trying to get them to do. They guessed it was because there are no commercially produced pickupsthat heavy

  • Very nice man, wish it was my truck!

  • awesome truck my new friend

  • That is one nice truck!

  • I love this!! Always wanted to do this. Instead I refurbished an old Autocar

  • @TruckerATK .... Thx for adding this to you favorites , awesome pickup my friend

  • now thats a pick up with some balls

  • did u just disconnect the 3rd axle and shorten the frame? im planning on doing this when i get out of highschool

  • @kyleimali What you have to do, is remove the front drive axle, and use the back drive axle as the only drive axle. Since the drive shaft goes through the front one. So I did that, and shortened the frame by almost 6 feet, and then had a custom shorter drive shaft built at a driveshaft shop in Reno Nevada.

  • please put more vids up especially driving around on pavement i think u just inspired me lol

  • @TheMike1617 yeah, I reaLly want to get some video of it on pavement where I can really pump out some nice black smoke.

  • please put more vids up especially driving around on pavement i think u just inspired me lol

  • man id love to find sum dry pavement with that thing cuz she will go like hell whats the rear gear?

  • @BrokenAxle401 It's got a 4.11 rear end in it right now which gives me about 1700 rpm in high gear at 60mph if I recall correctly. I haven't had much time to drive this thing that much yet. I plan on eventually putting a higher gear ratio rear end in there. Something like 3.42 or something close to that. I don't intend to be doing any drag racing or burning rubber with this thing, so I don't need a lot of low end power. Just need low rpms when cruising for better fuel mileage.

  • Please tell me it dosent have a allison please tell me its manual.

  • @Jerald9000 Oh heck no! ha ha. Having an automatic in it would have defeated my purposes of wanting a truck I could drive around just for fun. Shifting is like 90 percent of the fun of driving a truck. So yes it has an Eaton Fuller 9 speed overdrive. Which if you are not familiar, shifts kind of in a circular motion. Not like your regular 9 or 13 speed. You can see the shift pattern here. wwwDOTbigrigchromeshopDOTcom/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?page=BRCS/PROD/UISP/U-20399

  • @dasani110 Thank god you not like that other jackass that had a damn automatic in his a model pickup, but nah im not famillar with that tranny im 18 ive been drivin with my pops when he drove a truck and hes retired but ive had my share, ive drove a fordL900 with a 13 speed and a old mack r model dump truck with a twin stick 8 speed.

  • very nice indeedy :) more video's on this would be very cool and now the wife wants one :)

  • @4x4loonatic Oh there will definitely be more to come. I've just been hesitant to show it just yet since it is far from finnished. But I couldn't help it and finally decided to share my progress so far. ha ha

  • @dasani110 I would love to do one with a custom sleeper, so yeah long wheel base lol

  • @4x4loonatic Yeah same here. I plan to get another one some day and leave it long, with a sleeper. I love trucks with sleepers. I originally was going to put a sleeper on this one, and just put the bed behind it, but it was going to be longer than I wanted it to be. So I'll have to get another one at some point. I went back and forth with this one whether to leave it long, or short, but I bought this one specifically to do this with. So I will do something different next time.

  • more cold starts

  • @cullen9017 I'm uploading right now of our John Deere 710B backhoe cold starting:-) And I'll get more of this truck sometimes soon.

  • That's just awesome! Man, what a piece of art!

  • @mstruckerboy Thank you very much. Yes, it has been my project for the past 4 and a half months. Been spending just about every spare minute I've had working on it in between working my REAL trucking job. ha ha This one is just for fun.

  • Dang, that is awesome!

  • That is an awesome truck! I really want one. How long did it take you to build it? Do you still need a commercial or CDL License to drive it ?

  • @onetoughtechie Well, I bought the truck as a 3 axle dump truck minus the dump bed just this past August, and it has a bad blue paint job, and the paint was peeling off. So over the past 4 and a half months, I have done a LOT of work. Painted the cab and hood (Then finally found the pickup bed I was looking for AFTER I painted the rest DOH!) Shortened the frame and removed one of the drive axles. I work very long hours driving my logging truck, so it's left very little time to work on this.

  • @onetoughtechie And no, because it is registered under 26,000 pounds and only has 2 axles, you do not need a commercial drivers license to drive it. Also it is not held to the reduced speed limits that trucks with 3 axles typically are held to here in California. And that was my whole point in building it like this. I researched the laws and built it so that I could drive it as much for fun as possible. It gets 8.9 miles per gallon too, so that's not too terribly bad for something so awesome
