I got this achievement the first time I played horseshoes, and I didn't actually get a ringer. It was actually a wild shot, and it landed on one of the sideboards, actually on top of the board, like it was straddling it, and suddenly the achievement popped up. I still haven't gotten a ringer, or even won a game of horseshoes, but I have the achievement.
