I wish you did a comparison with the nikon 70-200mm 2.8 vrII vs the sigma. The Sigma has a rebate now making it $1250 way down from when it first came out $1600. What held me is what your saying- the softness. I do portraits and this I am affraid will kill it.

It would only please the fanboys who likes to furiously discuss the Canon vs Nikon battle.

It is not like anyone has a choice between the two lenses.

If you own a Canon DSLR you buy the canon version. It would be stupid to try to fit the Nikon version onto it with glue wouldn't it? You would buy the Canon version even if tests showed that the Nikon was marginally better. And vice versa of cause.

I'm lucky enough to work at a studio and I get to use all types of gear. As for canon vs sigma, if you zoom into 100% and look really really hard, you will see the canon just has the edge on sharpness.

Hmmmm!! maybe if you and others have to zoom into 100% to appreciate the photograph, then maybe it's time to give up photography.

Okay so the canon is slightly better....... so it must be worth double the price should it? I love canon, got a 5D MKii and always said to myself I will only buy canon gear. But when you got companies like Canon and Nikon who dominate the camera market, they have the mentality of charging an insane amount because they think people dont have anyone where else to go. Iam glad Sigma is trying their best to compete. In my opinion this lens is great value with amazing performance.
