There"s another video on automatic extension tubes that show them used with different lenses ,this may help, I think it was a 24-85 in the film but any lens will work.

Gazajenks is 100% right, use any aperture if you hold the dof button continuously when taking off the lens. Then aperture will not snap back open until you attach the lens to the camera without the lens. Mi love using my 50mm f1.8 at f11 to f16 for this! Great videos

Thanks Mark, the idea of this video was to show how it can be done at little cost, a macro lens will cost 100s of dollars and these extension tubes tubes are under 15€ .

Promaster makes rings that communicate with the camera body AF / Exposure. With that said, what would be the cons verse buying a macro lens?

i found a good technique: set the aperture to its lowest e.g. F22 then hold the depth of field indicator button located next to the lens then detach the lens whilst still holding the button. insert macro extensions and you now have an improved DOF! Hope this helped if you didn't already know.

If you want to get better depth of field, Use a Lens with a manual Aperture ring on it, any of the older lens should have functioning aperture rings on the lens. I use these tubes with a 50mm 1.8 prime and adjust the aperture manually. Now trying to take a picture of a insect while holding the camera, makes for a real tricky test.. But for shooting still objects, this works perfect with amazing clear results..Thanks for your video.. By the way I shot with Nikon D7000's
