We don't grind up the sparklers, we just bundle them up and tape them togethers so it's not that hard. I have some of that pyrodex powder but it doesn't burn real quick so in order to get a loud explosion you have to compact it a lot.
take sparkler chips through it in a bottle that has rocks(pebbles) shake roll what ever then put it in a steel nipple with two endcaps....a half in diameter by 3in long = noise of about 90 wooden sparklers!

That was AWESOME.
Have you considered using hodgdon pyrodex muzzle loader powder? It would be a lot easier than grinding up sparklers.
