"The Munsters" was created by Universal Studios and starred characters based on monsters from Universal's classic horror movies of the '30s and '40s. @Adler36 Not quite. Vampira did a similar thing to Elvira back in the '50s and '60s on late night TV. "The Munsters" premiered the same year as "The Addams Family" (1964), and the same week also. My guess is that somehow word got out about one or the other, and someone at a network came up with a similar show to kind of steal their thunder. Elvira seems to be equal parts Vampira, Vampirella and Morticia Addams.
