love it! And Eddie and Maria didn't create this dance, they were the first to formalize it and get the structure out of freeform and create a real curriculum to help students learn and remember. It has whatever you want, footwork, patterns, and flavor! For more information, check his website (easily found on Google). There's a reason we call him the "Master". If you're ever in NYC go to class, you won't be sorry! It's like a hangout and you're amazed how much you learn!
i took several of his classes with my girl friend (now wife) and boy, this dancing style and that genre of salsa music woke UP our souls...it's no wonder why puerto ricans can groove, groove, groove baby...
he / wife are not robotic instructors. they teach with class and humor, making it a fun environment. you will have a good cardiovascular, sweat, joyous time with this amazing culture...groove, groove, groove baby...spin your partner(s) like a top to salsa movements... have fun...
yeah this turn pattern is a tricky one! I think its magical though. I mean ive seen latinos dancing in clubs the so called on3 but it gets old quickly and doesnt challenge you at all. Its tricky at first to get this style, but in the end, if you always strive to improve, relax your mind, and of course enjoy yourself, this gives you a far stronger sense of enjoyment than any other dancing has ever given me.
I find this move incredibly hard to lead... I've been working on it with some people who haven't seen this video, every time I do the waterfall, they give me the wrong hand... and if they do give me the right hand, they would spin when i try to do the shoulder check.
Can u indicate the time in the clip for the points where u have issues. If it is the waterfall at 0:41, delay breaking the left-right connection slightly till you have the right-connection so that u won't get the wrong hand. Let me know where at what point they seem to spin...
i agree with piselacaca, but what juanita said has its points. lot's of the salser@s just dance doin their thing, but they don't listen to he music. they are so much in their technicality-thing that they forget about the groove, el tumbao, shakin hips, groovin around and to have a good time. check this article for what i mean on addicted2salsa: salsa-beyond-the-roots taken from the new-york-times
After being taught how to dance on 2 in New York city i find that the other forms seem to be more simple to me..on 2 is far harder than any other that I've tried..That's why watching this I have so much respect for Eddie and what's he's done...And for people in that class that picked it up that day
Is funny how we let the caucasians change everything. First the mexican food, now our Salsa dance. I'm from Peru and we don't spin that much!! BUT I think the guy has to make his money and HE IS GOOD!
First of all Eddie Torres has Puertorican parents so you should rather say he is Latino. Second he is an icon of salsa, he is the guy that has been danced all of his life and created new salsa style, NY style, that is gaining popularity all over the world. And third salsa is not owned by anyone, even Peruvians :), so you can't say that the way you danced is correct and his is not.
I said He is VERY GOOD dancing, and I Love it!!. What I said is that why that much spinning?? Don't you get mad when you are dancing in a club and if you don't spin like THE SPINNERS, they will run over you? I Understand that everything evolutionates (is that a valid word?, sorry for my bad english) but why the spinning?
We don't dance like this in Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia, Ecuador (southamerican countries.I think just Cubans do this style but is so difucult (not for me because i grew with salsa dance and music but what about the others?. THIS IS AN ADVICE FOR ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD: "WHEN YOU ARE LISTENING SALSA MUSIC JUST LET YOUR BODY MOVE, LIKE SHAKIRA'S HIPS, ENJOY THE RYTHM AND BE HAPPY OF COURSE, DON'T FORGET TO SMILE" :) PAZ Y AMOR
We're all from Africa, juanita32. We're all from Lucy. Did you let the caucasians change the salsa, or did the salsa change them? Did the salsa change you? Does the salsa belong to you? Or do you belong to the salsa? Is the salsa exclusive or inclusive? And, yes, I was offended by your comment, but whatever, sister.

Man! this move needs to be choreographed. Impossible to lead in social dancing, but very cool stuff. He made it look like easy but it's not..
