  • I can't help but wonder if The Dixie Chicks had put an offer out to snag Maria, I think they could be even more than they already are. I like Natalie Mains but, the song writing and guitar from Maria would have made brought the chicks even more. Who knows, maybe there would have been room for both of them.

  • Once the Jimmy Iovine's & 'Little Steven's' got a hold of them, that was it...I mean the whole original band quit or was forced out...Now, I really like this song, but they had already lost their original spirit, along with their original members...You have Maria, and corporate hippies to play the instruments and 'make the moves'.

  • four people haven't found love

  • If she would only share a duet with Bruce Springsteen, then I could die a happy girl.

  • @smichelle65 She did one with Robbie robertson I think

  • Maria really did kick ass back then! She's still a gifted performer but this high energy romp surely doesn't typify her later work. There deserves to be a Lone Justice DVD compilation. The rest of the band is good, too, but Maria's a standout and deserved to endure beyond the band's premature demise.

  • so underrated!! drives me crazy

  • Amazing performance. But believe it or not there was an even better performance posted some months ago. Sound crazy but it was in front of a giant inflatable EGG and CHIPS.

It has since been removed off the You Tube menu

  • @becruth1 some of us managed to snag it before YouTube removed it :-)

  • This is a snsational performamce - gets on2 BBC DVDs. Possiblyly best live female performance ever. Why is MMcK not a huge star? She is super talented as a singer. writer, performer etc?

  • 好きだったなぁ

    いまやったら流行りそーだけどな

  • In April 1987, Lone Justice opened up for U2 on their Joshua Tree tour, and in Las Cruces, New Mexico, I fell in love with an energetic beauty bouncing around on stage

  • GIRRRRRRRRRL......ROCK IT!!!!!!

  • i always loves her album 'lone justice'; ever since my father first let me hear it ^^ he was like "now, this is music" and yeah...

  • Is this the madness our parents warned us about, from rock and roll? What a fantastic performance! Is Maria possessed? Testifying? Is this Tracy Nelson on mushrooms? Janis Joplin for the country crowd???

What I would give to be at a show like this. I can't stop watching this video. Great job. She was 18-20 at the time. WOW!

  • @jondoe8889 I saw them touring on this record in a tiny, tiny club called "The Fast And Cool" in Houston--maybe 100 people there. She was insane! The only time she stopped spinning around was when she sat on the edge of the stage to talk to the crowd. I'll never forget her signing an autograph, then saying "I've got to sing now" and getting back to her feet. Just an awesome performance. It's like she was channeling the music from somewhere else.

  • What a beautiful and gifted little Goddess!

  • Gorgeous!

  • Blimey - i need to hear some more of this. At end she even gives Ciyndi Lauper a run for her money in the eneregy stakes - hair included - (and that takes some doing). This woman is phi-nomi-nal. What the heck happened to her? Is the business truly blind to talent of this calibre? Nice band too.

  • Please, marry me, MARIA ! !

  • saw her and lj when they 1st started in LA. front row center at ucla show. gave her single red rose after sweet jane encore. what beauty to go w/ that voice. she's the niece of a member of LOVE. she's definetly related to LOVE! great to run into her after all these years. thanks youtube. R2

  • @raleighreneau

Actually she's the half-sister of Bryan McLean of Love, who was 18 yrs older than her. She said she got to see the Doors and meet Frank Zappa when she was a kid because she went backstage to Love shows with her parents.

  • @selinakyle Wow, who are you, and how do you know this. My singer in the band "The Circles", lived across the street from the LOVE house by Griffith Park, early 80's of course. Sad to hear Paula Pierce left us too early. I'm in San Diego now, going to film school. Found out FraNK WENT TO my adopted hi school--Mission Bay. Small world , huh? I would love to hear more from you. On fb or whatever, who knows---the universe is COOL that way!!!R2

  • Mein Gott ist das geil !!!

  • I gotta go catch my breath! Dang - she was nothing short of awesome.

I'd pay $500 to see them again.

  • This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!

  • I've just discovered all these vids of old Lone Justice performances on youtube. Fantastic! Rekindled my appreciation from 20+ years ago!!!

  • @warpipe99 - this is around 27 yrs old.... from 1983? I think. They used to play the Palomino in North Hollywood CA.

  • Fantastic woman, fantastic singer - fantastic dancer too. I saw Lone Justice at the Greenbelt Festival in England in the early 1980s. She's a Christian. She's just full of good spirit

  • Imperfect perfection!

    I still love you, MARIA ! !

  • She and Lone Justice were one of the unsung heroes of the 80s... This is awesome. Thanks for posting.

  • She is brilliant what a rocker...fantastic...looks great too...what a tune....

  • shesfat/? thata all you got who cares about lookshervoicekicksass

  • maria maria maria maria maria maria maria WOW!!!

  • OMG thanks Dekemc for the share. A Golden Oldie - I think that is on an old cassette in the Garage Ha Ha

  • We would have to dig out the old cassette player, to give it a whirl, really great sound ,Luv it

  • She is sweet like a bee likes honey!)))))) Damn good!

  • 5 S*T*A*R*S*

I remember this too well. I'd always loved her voice!

Thanks for posting and sharing this with us on YT microcube65

    Kat~

  • Gregg, Rudy, Shane, Bruce and the always awesome Maria--good friends, indeed

  • she was fucking gorgeous til the drinking made her fat.....knockout voice though

  • just relised marea mckee wrote 'good heart' fergal sharkey song . love her singin it. she is awesome . so is his version.

  • this chic has talent!

  • bass vi yeah!

  • Absolutely insurmountable!

  • Love this performace. Close to her SNL performace, when i fell in love with her.. :)

  • Her perfomance of this song on SNL was one of the best rock performances ever in the history of the show, and live TV in general.

  • wtf

  • she IS a STAR...people just have to look harder. another talented band the record companies killed! but maria, we would love to see you play and record with a full band and play some "cowpunk" numbers again for old times sake...

  • @ballycam in this case you have to blame public taste more than the record company. Geffen was behind Lone Justice, big time. But they just never caught on with the public, despite their talent. Tired of slogging away unnoticed, the band broke up and people went their separate ways. I anything, it was Lone Justice's fault, since they only put a few years into. Not much when you consider the time people like Bonnie Rait and Bruce Springsteen had to wait for their stars to really shine.

  • WOW Great performance.Looked like she was trying to exorsize the devil at the end.

  • This was the first song I heard from Maria. She and the band performed it on SNL. She jumped around so much the mic stand went flying offstage. I've been hooked ever since!

  • The punch of Maria's vocals don't really come across in youtube.(unless it is my computer's sound system!) I love how sexy she looks without have to dress like a 'Ho

    : >)

  • Has anyone else even come close to looking this hot while rockin' the granny dress & boots? I don't think so! :-D

  • LOL you are so right DallasHammster!!

  • Wow....stunning performance...Maria's really givin' it some on this one. Remember LJ also doing this on a UK show called The Tube. Great talent, sadly only know in England for the Show Me Heaven single. Saw her live in Wolverhampton in 1996 on the Sin To Be Saved tour. Absolutely amazin'. One of my all-time favourite female singers. Keep on rockin' Maria. Thanks for all your great albums, still playing them loads.

  • My gf Angie got me to lovin Lone Justice-listening to them is almost like a religious experience!

  • WHY is this woman not a star?????

  • Because the music consuming public is mostly made up of morons to whom anything with a little soul, or anything a little "outside the box" is scary and intimidating. In a just world, music from people like Maria McKee would be commonplace, and the only radio Miley Cyrus would be played on would be the drive thru at Burger King.

  • I saw Lone Justice open up for U2 at Wembley Stadium on the Joshua tree tour,Maria`s vocal talents blew everyone away! An unbelievable performance well recieved by the U2 crowd.Ive been a fan ever since but ive only managed to see her once since-at Cambridge on the sin to get saved tour.Maria is a goddess and should be rightly worshipped.Come to England again soooon!!!!

  • Tell me Maria McKee and Lone Justice were not the seminal Alt Country band. Nothing against Volebeats or anyone there but...just saying'.

Saw an amazing performance by Lone Justice in NYC in 1986 or early '87 but unfortunately can't remember the venue.

  • So I remember back in the day, my high school buddy Gina Lopez was really into Lone Justice and Maria. She used jump around and sing exactly like Maria. She used to belt out to me..."SHOULD I GOT NORTH...". She was a talent.

Just a thought from the past. When I heard this song and watched the vid, it just took me to another place and time.

Cheers to Fish, Storkooken, Yom and T'ELP

  • I'll never forget the first time I heard this song, the opening track off of Shelter. Bought the cassette from the bargain bin, put it in my crappy cassette deck in my car, and was totally blown away. I thought I knew what powerful female rock performances were, but Maria raised the bar to a new level for me. The album was definitely overproduced, but Maria's voice lived in a different universe. I could use a few more experiences like that.

  • Me, too! I was really young, 18, & could'nt believe I never heard her on the radio. That was back when I was idealistic as any wet behind the ears kid & didn't know there were a whole lot of factors related to radio marketing than simply talent & ability. Now that I know that, I am really thankful to YouTube and Myspace for opening my ears to new & unsigned or minor label artists I might never have heard otherwise!

This was one music purchase I was delighted I made! (Cock Robin was another.)

  • She was sexy as hell back in the day.

  • This hits the mark and what a fine band LJ were.

  • I love the way she dances with pure soul!

  • jesus loves me is good.

  • Haha Maria is My cousin. Haven't heard from her in awhile though.

  • Den stemmen er noe helt for seg selv, og jeg er helt enig at det er rart de ikkje varte lengre

  • Just take a look at her... the hair, the dress, the cowboy boots... this woman is a goddess... :)

  • Maria is so sexy I can't believe...

  • wow Im at a loss for words!!!!

  • Maria sings so wonderfuly it almost makes me cry every time. The passion and energy is unbelievable. Why she is not as big as her peers is beyond me. She puts anyone from American Idol to shame.

  • Totally awesome. I was disappointed with LJ's 2nd album cos I felt it was over-produced and lacked the garage-band raw energy of the first album. This video corrects that mistake. Maria definitely rocked!

  • Sorry! I accidentally gave you a "Thumbs Down". I meant to give joedodge1 the neg for comparing Pros to American Idol contestants.

  • That's OK. Anyway, as to why Maria McKee never became 'big' is mostly because she chose a path that put more emphasis on her art than fame and fortune. She's still making good music...and seems happy doing it

  • She is a goddess. What a voice.

  • This was the 1st time I ever saw MM - live on the Old Grey Whistle Test on BBC - and was taken immediately. it was only later I found out she was the half-sister of Love's Bryan McLean

  • This one's so bloody cool it's beyond words! Maria McKee rocks the skirts off everyone else in the female rock scene!

  • oh my~she's so powerful so alive, havn't seen this kinda performance for a long time,so bloody cool!

  • YUSSSSS

  • Classic '80s Roots Rock!

  • I had a crush on Maria for a while, and now I found out the reason why: She can wear a granny dress and shake her tushy at the same time, lovely!

  • I think the cameraman had a crush on the drummer...sheeesh.

  • Great song. I remember seeing LJ on SNL and knowing I had to have....the cassette..LOL. I'm sooo old. Me and wife like them a lot. I was surprised they didn't get bigger. This is a great video version.

  • She looks amazing in this clip. Oh yeah the performance is awesome too :P

  • I actually had it! I don't think I have it now.

  • I love this version! This is better than the one LJ did on SNL. Maria has so much energy. Why LJ didn't become bigger is totally beyond me. You bring this band out today, it would blow everything out of the water.

  • Do you know anyone with the SNL version? This looks similar.

They did get big for a while, they were young. I think the tour with U2 was a bit overwhelming for them.

  • Opening for U2 on the 1st half of The

Joshua Tree tour was not "overwhelming"

for Lone Justice (The BoDeans opened

on the 2nd leg). I attended the Houston

concert and Maria Justice was perfect ! !
