    hes the best!

  • Bad orchestra...great soloist

  • truely inspirational

  • Lovely playing!

Much as I approve of being emotional and lunging about and making faces while you play... I must be truthful... he kind of distrubs me... :-S

  • perfect

    stop talking and listen

  • Mr, please please do not take the trouble to respond to maxhansenk, is a poor idiot who tries to play the violin and can not, it's a poor sort frustrated that could not get an autograph of Vengerov and still angry with him, therefore, this poor sick and insane amount of garbage written, stupid and meaningless crap that you and many of us read in all the channels where there are videos of Vengerov.

  • looks like he want to take a dumb

  • terriblè!!!!

  • o r g a s m a g a i n a n d a g a i n

  • lol

  • maxim vengerovasm

  • ...once again proving that music is better heard than seen.

  • fuck u

  • ahahahhaahahah

  • @frosts0 All, you're proving is that you don't possess a trained ear and that you are incapable of multi-tasking nor are you musically educated enough to understand the complexities of the composers vision which is conveyed through emotion by Maxim Vengerov, nor do you see the phenomenal timing employed by Vengerov throughout this concerto.....

  • He could be a tad more expressive in his body language as he plays.

  • who's your favorite in this piece?

  • I will always have an affinity for my childhood hearing of Isaac Stern. Brings back memories of my excitement at hearing this piece for the very first time. Outside of that special circumstance, I would have to say that the Heifetz recording with all the double-stop pyrotechnics added in is breathtaking.

  • stevie wonder is better!

  • Almost a perfect interpretation of the "arrogant" look from the classic cartoons >_>

  • loud applause from me...

  • Come on everyone. This is beautiful classical music. Must you all swear and be so nasty?

  • Completely Agree...

  • He is soo f*cking stiff

  • He should take that dick out of his ass...

  • I like this part of Tchaikovsky concerto in Leopold Auer arrangement, not in Mostras-Oystrakh as Maxim is playing and playing darn good. There is nothing amusing in his stage look. I don't think any famous sport players have better facial expression during the games or competitions. Back to music. Auer's arrangement is more difficult to perform (not a problem for Maxim), and tastier.

  • Joseph Nagyvary in 2003 build a violing so good as a Stradivarius, but use computer to help, so we can say that by only hands nobady was able to build something as good as a Stradivarius.

  • you are full of shit!!!!

  • No I don't. The only shit here it's you.

  • Scraping by in temporary ensembles at parties and weddings. Or will abandon the violin all together. The lucky ones will have at least the basics for an appreciation of violin music and its performers. This being a source of much joy for the rest of their lives.

  • The more talented among you may consider him- or herself lucky to ever get a position in the 3rd violin section of a 2nd rate orchestra. The majority will either end up teaching the violin to a bunch of unwilling kids whose parents think it cool for their offspring to mistreat a violin.

  • To those who made the derogatory remarks here about well known violinists in the past or present I would like to say this:

You make the impression that you are either studying the violin or pursuing a career as a violinist. Well, here are some facts: the chance that any of you aspiring violinists will ever be a soloist is so astronomically small as to be virtually non-existent. Let alone that you will ever be on par with any of the aforementioned violinists.

  • I play better than him... ( ^^) )

  • um, sorry leocoimbracoimbra, but if you play better than him, your name must be Itzhak, or Pinchas or Issac.

  • hahaha you dont have the half of the career he has... i know he seems retarded with his faces... but close your eyes, and listen to the music, then make comparisions...

morons... you all believe you are professionals

  • LOL!!! AHAHAH you so right man, everyone on youtube think they know all about violin, and half dont even play haha

  • i was kidding... offcourse i dont play better than him... he and perlman... im going to listen again.. :D

  • mi neño toca mejorrshh

  • when a person is inspired physicaly expression does contrbute to the audible music and musi is not only hearing is also technique!! you fucking fag!

  • wow he is a great player...im not very fond of this piece but still he is a great player non the less

  • This is from my favorite movement!! it wasn't nearly as well done in San Antonio.

    God, it's gorgeous.

  • Very nice. The rest of you arguing over who is better than the other, calm down and learn to enjoy the music, movement, and expressions for what they are. If you don't enjoy the music, don't listen. If you don't enjoy the movement or expressions, close your eyes. If you don't enjoy any of it, then I don't even know why you're spending your time here.

  • not bad, but still not as good as oistrakh

  • There's a lot of violinists that I don't really admire, even Oistrakh. To me, he was one of those violinists that when he played something well, he played REALLY well, and when there was something he played alright, it was mediocre. But, to my point, nevertheless I still love Oistrakh and admire his playing in his own style because he was able to captivate the audience with his unique interpretations of music. So let's act like adults and have a friendly debate rather than immature name-calling.

  • Furthermore, we are all entitled to our own opinion, so no one is right or wrong. Sure we may disagree, but that's never a reason to stir up an insult fight on a web-site.

And to include, Heifetz was not "boring". His playing had so much emotion and passion, but he was able to keep it all in without moving an inch, and that's what made him so great. Even Itzhak Perlman said that Heifetz was like a tornado: producing the greatest amount of energy and heat while staying still in its place.

  • You guys need to calm down. You guys are all acting like a buncha children, especially you OistrakhMilstein with your really childish comments: "Go suck his tits". Vengerov is a good violinist, but in my opinion, his phrasing is a bit butchered at times, but that doesn't make him any less than what he is now. I still enjoy his playing and his movements don't bother me at all because I know that his movements are sincere from what he feels from the music.

  • every time i watch this, i am speechless of his beautiful playing

  • Who said physical expression is not relevant to the performance? It is VERY relevant and important.

  • physicaly expression does not contribute to the AUDIBLE music... music is hearing...

  • You're wrong

  • at these levels of virtuosic soloists, they all have incredible technique, but what separates them is their expression, and I think this makes Vengerov a very unique musician and i think he is a marvelous violinist.

  • you guys. just shut up and watch the friggin vid without making dumb and pointless comments. Vengerov actually doesnt do any unnecessary mvts for this performance in this particular clip. He actually uses his body to help make up for bowing and getting the exact tone he wants and i prefer that he play that way. Sensitive playing is a plus. All violinists mentioned beforehand are all great in different or similar ways. You guys arent one of them so dont go judging which is better than the other.

  • Hi

This video is excelent. In fact, Maxim Vengerov, Itzhak Pearlman and Nigel Kennedy are some of the best players. They are excelent. But I'm here for two reasons. First to congratulate you, by having this excelent "space" and second to ask which concerto is this from Tchaikovsky.

    Ciao and see these.

    Amaizing mozart cadenza ;)

  • uh...tchaikovsky composed only one violin concerto...sorry, i know everyone wishes he had composed more but there is only one. i believe this is an excerpt from the first movement, correct me if im wrong

  • The facial expressions and other physical mannerisms of a musician are irrelevant to the quality of music he or she produces. When I listen to Heifetz, I hear a deep emotionally sensitivity underpinning every gesture, and a sense of epic phrase structures. When I watch Heifetz, I find that I would rather just listen to him, eyes closed. It's a mistake to focus on the visual aspect of the work being put into the music; it distracts from the music itself.

  • I could listen to Heifetz standing on my head blindfolded and still not feel anything when I hear him play. I don't like Vengerov because of how he moves or anything visual, I like him because his music makes me FEEL something.

  • Listen to this

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mpxuR9nXE0

if you don't think that is musical, go to your audiologist

  • @tuskmo I'm a classical vocalist and it is false that the physical mannerisms of the musician don't contribute to the music because they definitely do. If there is no expression on the musicians' or vocalists face when they are giving a concert then there is no feedback to gauge what the composer is trying to convey in the music....

  • So therefore emotional expressions must be conveyed throughout the composition in order to evoke deep emotion with in the listener. I've never had the problem of being distracted from the music while listening too and watching a classical musician or vocalist perform repertoire, the majority of the people who have been to a concert never have that problem....

  • The majority of people who attend concerts are able to focus both on the visual expressions and the complexity of the concerto's, aria's and art songs without becoming distracted-sorry but I disagree with your point on this

  • and i'm just wondering. how many of you have actually played this piece, and not just learned it, but to a point where it would be worthwhile to listen to.

  • your attitude is pretty obnoxious, even worse than this "OistrakhMilstein" kid

  • i dont know to what extent you know about yo yo ma's technique, but i hope you know that the reason for his seeming disfigured posture is because of past surgeries and not to do with his training. and to call heifetz a robot is plain amateur. i assume you know he and david oistrakh are both considered two of the best violinists ever, and both surpass vengerov, itzhak perlman, sarah chang, joshua bell, midori, and every other famous violinist out there today by far.

  • I was trying to make a point about facial expressions. Calling Heifetz a robot isn't "amateur," it's an opinion. I know Heifetz and Oistrakh are CONSIDERED two of the best ever, but that's also an opinion, and it doesn't make them THE two best. I never said anything about liking Chang, Bell, or Midori. Stop being so snobby about older violinists. I love some of them too, like Milstein and Szeryng, but i'm not naive enough to think there won't ever be anyone on their level.

  • maybe if you actually thought for a second about how to make your point, then what you said would not have been misinterpreted.

  • Okay, how about this for you then, so there's no misinterpretation. HEIFETZ IS A ROBOT. End of story.

  • heifetz has better technique than your precious vengerov. Go suck his tits

  • Oh yeah, Vengerov's technique is SO BAD. That's why he recorded The Last Rose of Summer when he was 15. I wonder why only 8 people have ever recorded that piece...

  • Bartok solo sonata is harder. He plays it rather badly. Gidon Kremer is better.

I don't like vengerov because his music does NOT make me feel anything.

  • The Girl with the Flaxen Hair? You've got to be kidding me. It's REALLY boring. Zzzzzz

Bartok isn't harder, you just probably think it is because you just bought the sheet music for it and tried to struggle through the first page. Everything that Ernst wrote for the violin is harder than that sonata. Kremer is a great violinist as is Vengerov, don't bring him into this.

When are you going to learn, I don't care what you think. Mainly because you're wrong.

  • @OistrakhMilstein Words of wisdom from a completely tone deaf individual who couldn't hear a mouse fart to save your life, this explains your comment. Great!!!! because you will have better luck trying to get a wall to listen to your empty hateful B.S.-Wow how can one person be so jealous of such a gifted violinist. Try a thrash concert because you have a better chance of holding a gripe session there and being heard then you do on this board don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out

  • Hmm, putting Perlman in the same category as Midori, Bell, Vengerov, Chang? Says a lot about your ability to judge music. Saying Perlman is fantastic is an understatement. It's quite possible he is the best violinist ever.

  • John, Heifetz was not a robot, in fact he was human, and a very expressive one at that that gave the world the most beautiful and romantic music. Yes, he was very "cold" on stage, but close your eyes and listen to him play. for you to say his playing was boring is a very uneducated response.

  • Although I admire Heifetz's technique and strive for perfect, it is his beauty of sound and emotional power that truly make him my favorite violinist. Listen to him play Mozart's Concerto #5, Spore concerto, Zigeunerweisen, and the Bruch Carmen Fantasy and you will hear more beauty than Vengerov could generate in his life. To be fair, Vengerov is my favorite violinist these days - whatever he lacks in beauty he makes up for with unique style and dynamic personality.

  • Educated response!

  • It's not even what people what to see, it's how individual performers respond to the music they're making. Some people get into it, and some people don't. By the way, if you've ever watched him, Feuermann does move around and make faces. Heifetz doesn't because, well, he's a robot. And it's reflected in his boring/perfect playing.

  • like lang lang? too expressive?

yo yo ma? looks like he's having orgasims on stage. but that's what people want to see these days. to them every cellist, violinist, and pianist look the same.

  • Oh lord, heaven forbid you guys let Maxim enjoy making music. By the way Wolfgang, I notice you like Yo Yo Ma a lot...do you have a problem with him swaying around with poor technique and making those faces as well? Thought so.

  • how dare you say yo-yo ma has poor technique... He's one of the best cellists in the world

  • I'm a cellist, so of course I know he's one of the best, he's actually one of my favorites. I'm just saying he has bad technique/posture from a standard point of view. But hey, it works for him. Vengerov and Yo Yo Ma don't have textbook technique, but they get along just fine. What I was really saying is that Yo Yo gets into the music just as much as Vengerov, so you can't really talk shit about Maxim if you like Yo Yo.

  • so COCKY!

  • God he's annoying.

  • he still plays better than virtually all of us....

  • Can you really be too expressive??

  • YES. What this guy does is obnoxious.

  • awesome video, i just finished playing that in sym. this season...when a guest artist came to town...very hard piece

  • what a short-short. Better than nothing. Vengerov is a good violinist, but he needsa to stop making faces. He needs the coolness of Ricci or Heifetz.

  • The "making faces" is part of what makes it so expressive. Plus it's interesting to watch. +__=

  • Dude get real, the faces is what makes people THINK it's expressive but it has nothing to do with the music. It's ridiculous to grade expressiveness by looking at how many annoying faces one makes. Anyone could just play any piece of crap and make lots of stupid faces would you think it's expressive? It's about the music, not how the person looks.

  • Meh meh meh, complain complain.

It still matters how the person looks anyways, however little. Like if someone played very very musically but was like totally stiff and still or whatever it'd be like wtf?? At least I would be like wtf...-____-

  • That's what's good. That's what Heifetz and Feuermann were, the greatest performers. The less movement and facial expressions the better. It is just a distraction from the music so that people think it's all expressive when if you actually listen to the playing it sucks.

  • Watch this video again.. do you think it is expressive? Yes, it is very. Oh, I never said anything about his facial expression.. I think that you are wrong with your reply to my original comment and that most of the passages in music are expressed through the face and the right arm.

  • Maybe to you it's expressive, but not to me. That's all about opinion but I think it can be agreed by all that facial expressions have nothing to do with how good the music is.

  • vadim repin will educate maxim vengorov. haha jk both are incredible violinists.

  • what i would give to play as musically as he does...just amazing.
