@torqueingheads...Marley attributed the song to Ford. Marley left the rights to Ford, known as Tata by Marley, as a thank you for everything, musically and in life, that he had done for him. Unfortunatley the estate of Bob thought otherwise and a court proceeding was faught over the rights to the song. The song in essence is about staying strong through adversity, standing and supporting your loved ones regardless of the situation and to remember that everything is going to be alright :)

@torqueingheads...i think it's you who is misunderstood my friend. Marley never said those words, he couldn't have Ford died in Dec 28,08. Ford did run a soup kitchen, the Goverment Yard was is a slum in trench town and 'nuh' does mean no in Jamican. The song was written by Ford and Marley in Ford's back garden and was written to reassure the women in their lives that the slum they lived in won't get her down, that everything will be alright and "don't shed no tear"

There's an awful lot of misunderstanding about this song, it has nothing to do with losing your girl. Bob is recalling a deeply personal experience from his youth when he and his friends came close to starvation. Vincent Ford ran a soup kitchen in Trenchtown and literally saved their lives. It is said that on Fords death bed Bob said to his wife "No woman nuh cry" Bob knew he was going to a better place. "The Government Yard" refers to a slum in Trenchtown and "nuh" in Jamaica means don't.
