@shartne Several people recommend the motorcraft carb which uses a base plate adapter.. I'm looking into carb possibilities, including rebuilding an old one I found in a box in the garage.
@rpeek The old two barrel motorcraft ford carbs are so easy to rebuild a monkey could do it they only have about two working parts. The best two barrels every made in my opinion. I used to have one on my 67 mustang and I rebuilt it easy. I put one on a ford truck that had variable venturi on it and threw away the varible venturi and put on the regular ford motorcraft carb on it problem solved. the kits are cheap for the motorcraft ford carbs too. used to be about 12 dollars. years 66 -72
@rpeek you can get them off of any old ford car or truck it dont have to be a mustang. the number on the side of the carb says the size of the venturi like 2.1 means 2 inch venturis and a 10th a inch so the smaller the number the smaller the venturis the better gas mileage. the sizes will only vary a little bit a fraction of a inch. It dont matter really just go find one at the salvage that has a tight butter fly shaft. Maybe some viewer has one that they will give you that would be nice
not leaking thats good but did you ever get all the vacuum lines plugged off. some of them work stuff in the dash on newer vehicles and I dont even know what year this is? I have seen guys just plug everyone of them off and throw away all the hoses except the gas line. then you can see the motor. you gotta have the crank case hose with pcv valve. gotta have vacuum advance for the distributor.
@shartne 1983. No vacuum activated stuff on the dash. I'm probably going to pull the carb off and clean it and make sure there's no vacuum leaks. I've also found another, older carb, that is the same kind and I may work it over and try it on there.
@RandallFlaggNY There is for the plastic valve cover one, but not for the after market aluminum valve cover. Also the center top studs are removed and new thread holes are drilled for the new one. No factory torque recommendations for the aftermarket installation.
AHAAAAAHH.
all good
this old jeep has been a fun project.

i gotta do the gasket on my wv rabbit-by the way, what part of the U.S.A are you from?.
stevieb620 1 month ago
@stevieb620 Maine. I suspect a gasket on a Rabbit will be pretty easy. These Jeeps are notorious for being hard to get the leaks to stop.

Maybe try Seafoaming the old jeep. I Seafoamed my jeep and it cleaned it all out.
