@dancingflame24 I completely disagree. Alice Cooper may have inspired many metal bands today but he's the pioneering king of shock rock not metal. Metal can be linked back to as far as Blue Cheer but the true creators of metal have to be Black Sabbath. I reckon Alice sees metal in a rather narrow-minded way thinking that NWOBHM for example Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and the early thrash bands like Megadeth and Metallica are the only examples of metal. He doesn't really count other sub-genres.

Im not sure about the details regarding Arthur Brown but in general he is way off fact wise in regards to black metal. A bunch of half truths, rumours and lies turned into a "witty" anecdote, as someone who has been ridiculed and demonised himself he should know better. As for modern metal being commercial, hes not whiter than white there either, I really love the original 70's Alice Cooper Group, but 'Poison' was one of the most derivative commercial songs of the 80's.
