I think the series might have been better if Anakin had always been more introverted like Leia, instead of going from cheerful open boy, to punk, to terrifying villain. It's not believable. Also, it would have shown parallels between the generations.

The dark side clouds everything... That is why Vader couldn't sense Leia was his daughter in ANH, neither the presence of Luke on board the Death Star. He didn't even know Luke Skywalker was his son till the emperor told him (hologram transmission in ESB), although makes me wonder why was he obsessed in finding Luke, as the introduction says...

@genoves66 There was a time skip of around 5 years during that period between the movies, in which vader tracked down members of the alliance and got a name from them. He thought that considering the ability with the force and a sense of familiarness as well as obi wan's involvement, the last name, and where he was from that he might be his son. That's why he was so obsessed with finding him. Moreover, he hid his speculation from the emperor.

where if all goes well, you forget the pain. Physical pain is easier to

put behind you than psychological pain. Luke never knew his biological

father, and grew up with an aunt and an uncle, whereas Leia grew up,

a Princess... Hmm, is Star Wars an allegory about something? About

Your explanation seems fine, but then Lucas did end the saga with Luke confronting Anakin and not Leia. Because Leia already had an example of what a life is like with a mother and a father, Luke has not. So I think he deserved the last moment alone. Also, in episode 1 it is revealed that Anakin grew up with out a father, so this makes the last scene even more special because, atleast Luke knew his father, Anakin has no father at all.

Leia told Luke that somehow, she had always known that Anakin was her father...so there was this force connection. That's why when Vader first saw Leia, he behaved the way he did. Somehow, he knew too. He sensed a connection to her. Even though it's not fully explained until ROTJ, they had always felt that connection.

Remember when Tarkin gave the order to destroy Alderaan? At that moment Vader held Leia back to restrain her, but it was not in an angry way, and it very much reminds me of a father putting his hand on his daughter's shoulder, which is exactly what it was.
