But apparently it can't. Thats because mustangs blow cock and loses to toy cars like this one all the time.

Then when they finally do change engines they decided to switch over to a 4.6L shitty SOHC with just 2 valves that was first introduced in the lincoln towncar.

  • Your brakes aren't bad its just the way Mustangs are built. I used to road race a 01 GT with stock brakes and suspension and it was dangerous to race. Completely unpredictable. Ford engineered suspensions are an afterthought on those cars.

  • @getyourballzup It was a class that required stock parts (except for a few bolt on engine modifications) And there was more than one race I entered. The best finish was 5th out of 21, worst was 17th out of 21. I ran the same class one weekend with a FWD Eclipse and won twice in a row. And also won with an AWD Talon. I owned non of the cars I raced. I race owners cars for them.

  • @psi2hi Well ford puts the live rear in them. They are built for drag racing not road racing. I'm surprised they still haven't moved on to the independent rear yet. Although the live rear is way easier to tune for drag racing and easier to get the weight on launch to where you want it.

After 20 years of designing cars especially for rally's, its about time they get a car faster then a stock mustang with 100,000 miles on it. Civics are not performance vehicles. They are grocery getters and daily drivers. Just like a mustang.

    Learn to drive a real car, and just about anything can get into the 25+mpg range. A fuel injected car with 2.73 gears and overdrive kicks the shit out of a little 4 banger. I drove about 200 miles a day, mostly freeway and got 600+ miles to a tank a couple of times. I averaged about 27-28mpg, more or less depending on how much I romped on it.

Yours is 1000 or more. right there your i-4 is using about or more gas then my v-8. At my 1200RPM cruising speed, compared to your, what 3000rpm? Which do you think uses more fuel? Fastest I've ever seen someone run in a stock GSR around here is a 16.3. Even a new driver pulls 15's in a stock mustang.

    When did I say it would last longer? I have owned several 302's with well over 200K though. Every i-4 I've driven has idled at 1000rpm or more. And it is working twice as hard. My car shifts before you hit v-tec. Makes a ton more power, at much lower RPM"S. I can go weeks without hitting 2k.Your right, I'm not an expert on your car. But when I call you out on how fast it is, out of no where now your sure that it will get much better mileage. It better, being almost 1/3rd the size.

At 66mph you should be at 3250RPM assuming you have stock sized tires, in 5th gear and the 4.4 final drive ratio. So your right, you COULD go all day without hitting 70mph. I don't know about where you live, but I have speed limits at 75 here. And you were right about idle speed. I guess your idle should be the same as mine, at around 650RPM's.

    I live in a city as well. Occasionally I actually drive my car somewhere else too though. I know what I get for gas mileage. You don't seem to though. I just said I had a 5.0. Your gear ratio has alot to do with gas mileage, as well as RPM's. Higher you rev, the more gas you use. I drive a 5.0 87 thunderbird. Basically the same engine, with worse heads, intake and camshaft that flows less. It was rated at 27 hwy in 87 with the same fuel management systems and transmission and rear.

  • @lilsammywasapunkrock Go to edmunds and look up one of the cons for a 90 Mustang 5.0 LX or GT. One the cons is "gas milage." I guess if you commute every single day and use a 5.0 to travel everyday then I guess it might be possible to get 27mpg which would be dog on rare and if your car was to stock spec and you drove 50mph on 5th w/ no passangers.   • @Cripton805 my 88 LX with 3.73's got probably 22-23 mpg on the highway, I used to take it on long trips all the time. That was doing 65-75mph even with thsoe gears. Motor had bolt on's.

  • @lilsammywasapunkrock With my 1986 5.0 GT, back in the day, we went to Florida for spring break, with 3 in the car, loaded with gear, with 3.08 rear end and 160 thermostat, still got 27mpg @ 70mph the whole way down and back. $44 in gas each way. Cheap as heck back then...

  • @MoparTurbo05 dude. a stock pre 2011 GT is a low 14sec or high 13sec car. What part of that dont you understand. A stock Type-R is a low 14 sec car with half of the Cylinders. 2011 Mustangs and future ones now have the right to be consdered a sport car. Anything before that was a Joke. New V6 300+hp and V8 400+... Old V6 low 200ish hp and V8 300hp ish... a stock Type S was at 200hp and its just a little sport coupe. now the weight difference puts them 1 sec away from each other OR less.

They are PONY cars, rear drive, long hood, short deck, 4 passanger American Icons from the past, still alive and well today, and a Fox 5.0 with minor tweaks can and will run high 12's all day long without lifting a single valve cover!!

  • @toreyw100 my buddys 4.6, 03 threw a spark plug and almost ruined the head and its low milage and a DD. Stock. My other buddys 5.0 spends more time at the shop getting fixed than on the street. Most people that I know with Stangs have bad experiences. Except my other buddies 65 lol

  • @Cripton805 I bought my 5.0 in '98 with 73,000 miles, put a clutch and a u-joint in it (typical maint.) and until the oil pump went out at 121,000 miles didnt have any major prob. and I drove it like a race car every time I drove it!! Check out my vids. The SRT-4 in my vid. was in the shop every 3 months, which is why I no longer own it!!

  • @Cripton805 The SOHC 4.6 is notorious for throwing spark plugs, but to no fault of the vehicle. There's a reason there's a torque spec, and why to use quality parts on your vehicle. As far as the 5.0, they make really good boat anchors.

  • @Cripton805 just because somebody was tech doesn't mean he didn't fuck it up. The procedure on those has to be exact if not problems occur. Every single one I worked on at Ford that had that issue had just received a tune up, where shitty parts and improper procedures caused problems.

  • @toreyw100 BULLSHIT on the 5.0. Only thing you're gonna be able to do without liftin a valve cover is an intake swap, a CAI and the exhaust and you're gonna be a far cry from 12's. The stock cam has it's limits as do the heads. Only way you're runnin 12's without crackin a valve cover is to boost it or spray, and that doesn't count as a minor tweak.

Starting with a bone stock, bare bones Fox body coupe, no air, power windows/locks and radio delete, Ran mid 13's completely stock, Adding street slicks, removing air silencer, and front sway bar, bumped up the timing, 3.73 gears, headers, and free flowing exhaust... broke the 12.9 mark... No boost, no sparay!!! Power to wieght ratio, the right gears, traction, and someone who can drive a 5 speed is all it takes!!!

To me if it can be done in your garage in a few hours without going into the engine, its a pretty minor tweak!! Either way, the point is, no cam, heads, intake, nitrous, boost!! Very little money, or time is needed on a stock motored 5.0 to attain 12's!!! The 5.0 was a marvel in 86-92, forged pistons, rods, molly rings, dbl roller chain, take a beatin and keep coming back for more!!!

You're talking about a Type R, so lets talk about the 03 Cobra.....which walks anything Honda ever made stock, made short of f'n F1 cars and crotch rockets, including the NSX. The NSX kept the same base since the early 90's and the Type R was based off of an engine cast from the late 80's. These car's are still not considered under powered even by today's standards more than 20 years later. And Ford at the time was getting only around 50hp more or less with their 5.0. That's right fucker and with a 300-600lbs heavier body and MUCH larger engine.
