I think that the 'Boks game against Wales in the 2011 World Cup was both fairly played and fairly refereed. However, this hit was clearly late, and there is no denying that. Labuschagne deserved the red card, and the fact that Vickery and Johnson both had bad hits doesn't come into the decision of this game.

Normally they are yellows. Very very rarely are they straight reds. Normally the South African players get heavily penalized for standard incidents which any other team commits. Consistency from refs would help.

There NEEDS to be consistency on things like that from the refs standpoint.

SA were outrageous that day. Led by Corne Krige they went on a mission to fight, gouge and stamp on any Englishmen they could find. 53-0 was well deserved on the day, as was the drubbing we gave them in the RWC a year later.

That was a probable Yellow Card. The fact that o'Brien went for red was, to my mind, the first clear evidence that he (o'Brien) intended to fix the _margin_ of the result (the result itself was never going to be an issue). I think that we saw the culmination of match-fixing's handiwork in the quarter-final match between Australia and South Africa last week. It would be nice to think that the IRB would have the honesty and integrity to conduct a forensic audit, preferably on both events.

I think that the 'Boks game against Wales in the 2011 World Cup was both fairly played and fairly refereed. However, this hit was clearly late, and there is no denying that. Labuschagne deserved the red card, and the fact that Vickery and Johnson both had bad hits doesn't come into the decision of this game.

The only reason I can think that is a straight red is because you can argue he didn't use his arms in the tackle. But O'Brian didn't say that when he dished the card. But Like a say I have seen those numerous times and 9/10 it is a yellow. Look at Ashton and Tualagi. How was that two Yellows? There NEEDS to be consistency on things like that from the refs standpoint.

+ I've seen them being yellows aswell, but as you say if they are 9/10 yellows, then a tackle like that potentially could get a player sent off (whether you agree or not) due to the 1/10. It's all down to my first point about officials and the way they officiate the game.

This match stands out for me as the single worst display of sportsmanship i have ever seen by a team. South Africa were dirty beyond belief.
