Could say that about any boxer. Liston wins against Ali if Liston in prime, no question.
Holmes wins against Tyson if Holmes in prime, no question. Dempsey in prime wins against Tunney, De La Hoya wins against Pacquiao if De La Hoya in prime no question... ad infinitum. Meaningless statements, unproveable one way or another.
Tyson loses to Holyfield twice despite been 4 years younger, Lewis beats Holyfield. Lewis destroys Tyson despite been older. Lewis loses just 2 fights, Tyson loses 6. Lewis retires a World Champion defeating the younger Vitali Klitschko, Tyson retires losing to Kevin McBride. Lennox Lewis was unquestionably better than Mike Tyson.
@Tommo6300 You can't really say that.. when they fought, tyson was WAY past it. 88 tyson would of probably been a little too much for anyone. There isn't much point in saying whose better, boixing isn't about the best, its a business, the majority of "champions" have been guided by their camps through the easiest path, its just a business when it comes down to it.
@motley0crue12 I can see your point, Lewis could never destroy opponents in the first round like Tyson did with Micael Spinks and the majority of people early in his career, however over more than 7 rounds I would always have put my money on Lewis over Tyson. I guess it says more about Tyson's self destruction that he had probably hit his prime by the time he was 22 years old, if he could have held it together he would have probably been the greatest heavyweight ever
@joecalzaghethecoward you just hate britsh fighters dont you and make up random bullshit to try to make ur point valid but it doesnt lewis was a brilliant heavyweight he battered holyfield twice the draw was a fix FACT you are a joke joe fought those who were in front of him its a well known fact jones ducked people and he wouldnt risk p4p against joe. So shut ya fat ugly pie eating cock sucking disease ridden mouth you have been found out
@zlogical1 lol i really think that he just sits and watches youtube all day crying at how sad his life is and wanking over his secret crush on calzaghe using his tears for lube lol
Ray Mercer - 1996 - Mercer was 35. So poor was his record, he hadn't won a fight for 3 yrs, a controversial SD against Jesse Ferguson in 1993. He was also outclassed by a 43 yo Larry Holmes in 1991. Mercer dominated and was clearly robbed. Naturally Mercer wanted a rematch offering to donate his all his $10m purse to Charity (Project Pride-Newark). Amazingly the Vulture Lennox Lewis refused!
Hasim Rahman - A fighter who didn't even take up boxing until the age of 20, making his pro debut at 22 in 1994 a guy with no punch resistance, not just been ko'd, but out of the ring in 1999 by Oleg Maskaev. Lennox got ko'd in 5 Hasim Rahman 2 - Lennox won in 4 in a 2001 rematch, so poor was Hasim Rahman that he didn't win another fight until a 2004 U/D "HBO Ballroom Boxing" match with 41yo Al Cole
Mike Tyson June 2002 This is Lennox's biggest con Tyson, destroyed by British club-fighters Danny Williams and Kevin McBride more decisively than Lennox Lewis who took 8 rounds to literally push an exhausted overweight 235lbs Mike Tyson to the canvas. This is not surprising, he'd boxed just 18 rounds in 6 yrs and was pictured 03/2002 in the National Enquirer smoking marijuana with hippies in Hawaii
Evander Holyfield - Lennox cleverly waited until Holyfield was 37 years old to finally muster up the courage to fight him. Holyfield had already once retired with a congenital heart defect and looked a shadow of his late 90's-Early 90's prime. After Holyfield winning a controversial decision against Vaughn Bean in 1998, Lennox Lewis still needed a favour off the judges despite Holyfield being washed up
They both came swinging, Lewis with the big uppercut Tyson being Tyson, 1st round was pretty wild plus i do agree Lewis tried to slow the early pace more his style but fougt great, Both Legends that are missed
Exactly MrKazzy f*kk the haters of either fighter both absolute greatness in different eras, Would never compare the Klitchskos brothers in this class
TYSON'S LAUGHING!; It's a night on the boos for Lennox.
Sunday Mirror (London, England) Date: May 12, 1996
If Lennox was dragged to the wire by 35-year-old Ray Mercer, is there a prayer against Mike Tyson? The crowd have experts on their side. Riddick 'Big Daddy' Bowe claims: "It was Mercer by two. If I landed clean shots on Lewis the way Mercer did, he'd be put to sleep fast."
lennox lewis ur ring walk was gay.. your pre-fight demeanour was guy.. your hair cut is gay.. you are a douchbag.. and if i met him i would not say that to his face
Oliver McCall - Oliver was 29 years old and stopped Lennox easily in the 2nd round. However in 1996 he fell into Crack Cocaine-Alcohol Problems. He had 3 drug related arrests and was under house arrest / drug rehab since December 15th 1996. Coward Lennox Lewis decided it was now "safe" to face Oliver McCall who would surely have knocked him out easily again if he was not in the throes of drug addiction
Didn't see the Nevada State Athletic Commission or New York Commission or any other commission testing him +ve for ANY illegal substances.................Because he wasn't using any!
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward a patient by the name of "Evan Fields" caught investigators' attention. "Fields" shares the same birth date as Holyfield—October 19, 1962. The listed address for "Fields" was 794 Evander, Fairfield, Ga. 30213. Holyfield has a very similar address. When the phone number that, according to the documents, was associated with the "Fields" prescription, was dialed, Holyfield answered.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Holyfield was anonymously linked to Applied Pharmacy Services, a pharmacy in Alabama that is currently under investigation for supplying athletes with illegal steroids and human growth hormone (HGH).
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward I'm sure that is all coincidence though, surely someone else just gave them Holyfield's actual phone number who was getting illegal steroids.
@adrenacrumbYeah, and he gave them his address (The big white mansion you can see from half of Atlanta), Called himself 'Evan Fields' and even gave out his American Express number! = BULLSHIT
Do u believe that?
Next time I do a bank job, I think I gonna tell the police b4 I do it!! HAHAHA!!
James Toney = YES
Roy Jones = YES
Shane Mosley = POSSIBLY (He knew)
Holyfield = NO (Check his professional boxing license)
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward So why didn't he try to do anything about the allegations other than deny it? Don't you think if he was set up he would want to do something?
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward You are retarded if you don't think it was Holyfield was picking up the steroids, he didn't think a pharmacy was ever going to get raided. He has donenothing about the allegations, so yea he used steroids.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Someone has been giving out your information to a pharmacy and picking up illegal steroids Mr. Holyfield, would you like to do anything about that? No, shits good don't need to do anything about it I don't know no pharmacy, let them do whatever.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward You don't even need to look any deeper into this shit you know people do crazy shit all the time, I used to buy steroids as Mickey Mantle for the lulz, let em have their fun, Holyfied don't give a fuck.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward I'm a professional althlete and someone giving out my address and phone number to pick up steroids ain't no biggie, I don't want to know shit, I don't want to tell you shit, we gonna bury this like Lewis buried me twice even though I was on ster...! Ahhh you almost got Holyfield.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Guess it's a good thing no one ever called that number before huh? Not like a pharmacy ever needs to call people. Or do you think it was an inside job? Was one of the clerks there real pissed at Holyfield for losing to Lewis twice so they set up a brailliant plan to have their own pharmacy raided?
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward I'm having a hard time if you really are a mental retard or you just play one on the internet. Do any of those prove Holyfield never took steroids? Does giving your information to a place where someone was picking up illegal steroids and refusing to say anything at all after this is found out mean you did use steroids? YEA
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Did the judges or the boxing commission say Holyfield won? Why is their action the decider on one but somehow their decision on the fight seem to mean nothing?
@adrenacrumb ARE WE SURE ABOUT THIS? LEWIS OUTHUSTLED AND OUTPUNCHED IN REMATCH.
but this time many observers - including this one - didn't think he deserved it.
In fact, for a large portion of a fierce brawl marked by dramatic ebbs and flows, Holyfield outhustled, outslugged and out-thought his plodding opponent and almost sent him to the canvas in a classic seventh round
= Boxing Politics, More PPV interest in Lewis v Tyson than 3rd Tyson v Holyfield
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Yea we are sure, he beat the shit out of him twice, you are a retard. So is the absolute nobody you got that quote from. If I can find one idiotic person who questions a fight that automatically means the other person really won?
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward wait Joe is talking drug tests. Crackhead please. Holyfield has all but admitted he used the same stuff Bonds did the UNDETECTABLE clear and the creme from BALCO. The same guy who still can't find Tyson's failed drug test is now talking drug testing . Friggin crackhead.
Tyson now faces a new ban from boxing in the desert metropolis after it was revealed that he failed a drugs test in the wake of his last bout, a two-round victory over Poland's Andrew Golota last October.
Ironic thing is as bad as lennox looked in this fight, lewis was such a great boxer that even this shit version of lennox can probably still beat prime vitali by points.
I don't blame the ignorance of boxing fans these days because boxing has been a declining sport ever since I say 2003-2004. So no blame but here to educate. Obviously iron mike is a shell of his former self in this fight, but lennox lewis is ALSO A SHELL of his former self. Anybody that think this is PRIME lennox is a idiot. Watch lennox vs golota. lennox vs grant, that is prime lennox. This lennox lewis is way pass prime. Lennox was out of his prime against Tyson and vitali both.
@exploitivex Ok, but how much further past his prime is Tyson here versus Lennox Lewis? That's the real question. Tyson pretty much officially left his prime by 1990 and then, in addition to that, spent 3 years in prison with no real boxing training whatsoever before finally making his return to the ring in 1995. THEN add another 7 years before he finally fights Lennox Lewis. Tyson was at the very least 12 years past his prime by this point, so there's really no comparison here.
I am British, a fan of Lennox... but hand on my heart, I must say this Mike Tyson was a mere shadow of the former great Iron Mike!
A primed Tyson would have destroyed Lennox no problem. I think the fact he had fought 19 round in the past 5 years prior to this fight say a hell of a lot.
A primed Tyson was in the top 3 fighters of all time!
EMANUEL STEWARD, founder of the world-famous Kronk gym in Detroit, has criticised Lennox Lewis for the timing of his retirement. Steward (right), who guided Lewis to the undisputed world heavyweight title, believes he should have offered Vitali Klitschko a rematch. "I felt Lewis owed it to the boxing world," he said. "Vitali could have easily degraded Lewis publicly and said that he is a coward.
Vitali Klitschko says “I sent Lennox Lewis into retirement” September 28th, 2010
Klitschko had this to say about Lewis in East Side Boxing’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio program yesterday: “If we talk about the retirement of Lennox Lewis, I am more than sure I sent Lennox Lewis into retirement. Lennox Lewis was smart enough to make the decision to announce his retirement before somebody beat him.”
Tyson wanted out . In this fight Tyson continually moved forward and yet threw no punches . I've watched this fight several times . Mike just lets Lewis beat him . I think Tyson had truly had enough of the fight game . This fights and hose after were purely for the money . Painful demise but i prefer to remember the glory days
35-0
31 knock-outs
19 in the first round .
Mike Tyson was truly an AWESOME boxer . His legacy endures and always will.
@thehitchrules He said the ruddock fight and the rape thing took all the fght out of hm.Lews cowardly ran from the best tyson and got a hold of a 10 yr already gone tyson.
From 86-88,lewis RAN to the olympics to avoid being pulverized by a killer tyson. Why do you think lewis first real fight at heavyweight was in 1993?He sparred with tyson in 84,he's 1 yr older but he mysteriously dissappeared for 7 years.wanna know why? Because he was scared of tyson ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!
@fadethetrade Even Tyson says right here on youtube that Lewis damn near KILLED him for a week in those sparring sessions. Tyson yeah I knocked him out of the ring. Announcer wow what happened then. He got back in the ring and tried to KILL ME. Keep lying fade it won't help.
@fadethetrade Why would he be scared of someone who they both admit he pounded for a straight week. 2nd Cus even said you two will fight for the world championship. Why would cus say that if he stank up the place. I take Tyson at his word Lewis tried to kill him for week. Tyson turned pro because he failed to make the team & Holyfield a light Heavy pounded him in sparring at the Olympic training camp.
As the early 1988 fighter,he was already being compared to ali.Even in 92,ring magazine favored tyson in 8 vs holyfield and it would have gone only 6.Tyson ko's that holyfield in 6.And his best days were BEFORE 1989 DICK HEAD.Do the math schmuck! don't judge tyson in the lewis fight.Tyson was 12 yrs past his best ability asshole!Lewis quoted one time."i wouldnt have foguht tyson when he was 19,he was an animal" that was lewis quote,DUMMY!
@fadethetrade Tyson I could HAVE never beat him. Tyson on the 84 sparring session HETRIED TO KILL ME. Tyson in 96 here Lennox have my belt but I won't fight you. Hmmn
@fadethetrade He had already kicked his ass at 19. 2nd If Tyson was so game how come he found every man on Earth to fight rather than Holyfield. He ducked Ruddock to fight Buster Then after that fought some bums then Ruddocl #2 rather than sign with Holyfield. Finally He has Holyfield. Then his "rib"is so badly hurt, but he can go to a beauty pageant and hide behind teenage girls. He never wanted Holyfield and he knew it.
"You know why tyson is able to nail so many opponents is because he doesnt just throw one or two punches,he throws 3,4 and 5 punch combinations" quote by Sugar Ray Leonard apr 1987. TYson stopped a key feature in his arsenal in beating guys like holy and lewis. It was the lack of combination punching and the lack of stamina after 1988. Lewis would lose to the 87-88 tyson
@fadethetrade Well Bert Sugar said Lewis would have kicked Tyson's ass in 88 too. He threw a bunch of punches in rd 1 and still got clobbered. Face it he never belonged in a ring with Holyfield or Lewis except to carry their jocks or water bucket.
@Zlogical1 People either hate Tyson or love him. The people who love him, love him because they saw what a monster he was. The people who hate him, like you, are just jealous that they'll never amount to half of what he was.
@saulhudson420 DOnt waste your time trying to talk the science of boxing with idiots who were probably warped fetuses in their mothers wombs when tyson made history in ANY WEIGHT by defending his title 9 times before his 23rd birthday!
@saulhudson420 These schmucks who bash tyson only do it because they only remember his post 1988 drama and losses, not the 3 yr terror he put on 2 champs,2 exchamps and various contenders all who could have beaten lewis, and holyfield on any given night.Actually Tucker, knocked out a fit douglas 5 months earlier so tyson beat better guys then douglas at his best.Holyfied struggled with a grandpa holmes and tyson decapitated holmes 5 yrs younger. These assholes on youtube dont know shit
@fadethetrade Against who? Name the great fighters Mike Tyson beat. Hell name the good fighters Mike Tyson beat. Mos of his opponents just where not that good. When the level of competition picked up suddenly the excuses started flowing like Niagara falls. Ali had substantial time off divorces money problems Yet he kept on winning. Tyson oh my wife left me lose oh my trainer left lose. oh the sky is blue today lose. C'mon tell me the great fighter Mike went in and beat?

“I don’t know what the hell happened,” Tyson told reporters. “I may have smoked too much weed, but I wasn’t taking any drugs or anything.”
Another time he was asked about the Lewis fight, Tyson replied: “Man, I don’t know what I was on. Maybe I just smoked too much weed. There’s no doubt I’ve been a monster.”
@saulhudson420 I've met Tyson he's a nice guy. I don't hate Tyson actually he's is a great 2x heavy weight champ. He's just not better than Holyfield or Lewis. Why they kicked his ass soundly. Now we can debate this that or the other, but at the end of the day. His record shows he fought few good opponents & lost to men who fought stiffer competition than he did. Everything else is bullshit. If Tyson.. in 1988... If this if that.
@Zlogical1 Holyfield was an amazing fighter. But Tyson gave him a hell of a fight. As far as Lewis... he wouldn't have lasted 1 round with Tyson in his prime.
@saulhudson420 Lewis couldn't even last more than a couple of rounds with Oliver McCall, the coward only plucked up the courage to fight McCall again because he hadn't trained and had been locked in a drug rehab clinic
Imagine what a prime Holyfield or Tyson would of done to this BUM?
@saulhudson420 When was Tyson's prime in 84 when Lewis tried to kill him as Tyson said. In 86 When the fightin cowboy took him the distance? In 88 When he fought an old ring rusty holmes and a blown up light heavy. When exactly was Tyson's so called prime?
@Zlogical1 He won by ko his 1st 18 professional fights. Talk all the shit you want, anyone who tries to say Tyson wasn't one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time is either in denial, or they don't know anything about boxing. Sure, his prime didn't last long. He was takin advantage of, he was young, he was dumb and made a lot of mistake. But when he was at his best, determined, and didn't have retarded corner men, he was incredible.
@saulhudson420 yeah he fought 18 straight BUMS. Don't believe me go look em up. Most of those guys where KO cases guys KNOWN for being easy to KO. Again excuses excuses. Ali was young. Still kept winning. Holyfield had Don King not exactly a Nobel Prize winner kept winning. Excuses are for guys who lose. When you win you don't need them. His prime was against guys who stunk. It's always someone else's fault he lost. The ropes where to big the weed was too good. Whatever.
@saulhudson420 I'll make you a deal I'll climb in the ring with Tyson after you climb in with Holyfield or Lewis.ROTFL. I'll be in line to fight Tyson right after his next chosen opponent Anne Wolfe. ROTFL. Tyson actually wanted to box a woman!!! I guess Robin Givens wasn't available.
@saulhudson420 Hey at least I never said my best punch was against a woman Robin Givens, Got my ass kicked by two women Cosby's daughter and her friend. Then challenged a woman to a boxing match. Tyson might really be Tyler Perry! ROTFL.
@saulhudson420 Typical Tyson early fight Sammy Scaff 6' 5" 250 lbs looks tough huh nope he was 13 wins 6 loses 5 of those losses by KO or TKO. This was typical of his early fights guys who basically where tailor made to be hit and stay down. It looked impressive, but the guy was a bum. Who KO'd this guy Power houses Andrew Stokes, Alex Williamson,Mitch Green, Jimmy Clark Witherspoon and Kilimanjaro. Wow
@Zlogical1 Well,Bert sugar picked spinks to have a good chance vs tyson. And its interesting how foolishly you tyson bashers make idiotic comments like carrying jockstraps.Thats more of a desperate attempt to talk the science of boxing when there isnt any science of boxing inside your pea brain! Lewis already admitted tyson of 87 blows him away. That was his time, this is my time" DICKFACE!
@fadethetrade As the early 1988 fighter,he was already being compared to ali.Even in 92,ring magazine favored tyson in 8 vs holyfield and it would have gone only 6.Tyson ko's that holyfield in 6.And his best days were BEFORE 1989 DICK HEAD.Do the math schmuck! don't judge tyson in the lewis fight.Tyson was 12 yrs past his best ability asshole!Lewis quoted one time."i wouldnt have foguht tyson when he was 19,he was an animal" that was lewis quote,DUMMY!
@fadethetrade Mike Tyson's own words I could have NEVER beat him. Mike Tyson on the84 sparring session HE TRIED TO KILL ME. Mike Tyson on seeing Lennox in a NY restaurant He was looking at me real mean because I wouldn't fight him and he made me look bad in front of my girl.. He's a real big dude. Those are Tyson's words not yours not mine. He's a great 2x champ, but couldn't beat the best of his era simple. Holyfield always owned him and he was always sacredof Lewis. End of story.
@Zlogical1 He beat lewis ass in the first round and the 1988 version of tyson would have done that first round to lewis EVERY ROUND until he ko'd him .now your learning, that was one of many features of tyson that he stopped doing in 1989.One was working an opponent with relelntless pressure and defensive first posture. He only had 1 round in his arsinal vs lewis and holyfield in 2002/In 1988,he had 12 of them.Thats why they both lose to that early classic tyson
@fadethetrade Dude after the first round Tyson walked back to his corner and said Ronnie HE HURT ME! He had eaten those three uppercuts and as Foreman said may have been stunned he was hurt. That's why he came out in the second round with a plan NOT to get popped like that again. BTW I've seen half of Tyson's amateur and all his pro fights.
@knightschwartz, no lewis was born in 1965 london uk, hes pure british, he parents maybe came b4 that from africa not sure, but africa was under british ruling so anyone born in africa would have been a british citizen as it was under british colonies.
@joe calzaghe the coward u clearly have no life or knowledge of boxing ive seen u on ova vids the only time u get ur dick wet is in the bath lewis beat those put in front of him the fights he lost he didnt train properly e.g filming oceans 11 and the rematches he kod them ppl would rather vacate belts than fight him quote from ali" lewis is the greatest heavyweight boxer since me"

There was no fear Tyson would need to submit to a drug test for Friday night's bout. Illegal narcotics and steroids conveniently aren't banned substances according to the Kentucky Athletic Commission.
Another time he was asked about the Lewis fight, Tyson replied: "Man, I don't know what I was on. Maybe I just smoked too much weed. There's no doubt I've been a monster."
Lewis said. Today's Tyson is no longer the Tyson of legend after being beaten twice by Evander Holyfield. And after the second Holyfield bout - a low point in sports history - things really went downhill.
Lewis said. "I understand that he still has a lot of fans out there, but they're fans that look at him when Tyson was Tyson. The Tyson of today is a different man."
Mike Tyson - Before we encroach this subject, lets rewind to 1998 and a statement by Emmanuel Steward about the quality of Lennox Lewis's opposition-"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight,"
Mike Tyson admitted he was ALSO a washed up drug addict in 2002!
Razor Ruddock - a walking Asthma Attack who had already been ko'd by a bum called David Jaco who retired with a 24-25-1 (18 by KO) record, who had never held any version of a world title and no relevant wins
Frank Bruno - 1993- Famous for stamina problems and a caramel chin (James Smith '84 + Witherspoon '86) washed up Bruno had fought just 4 times (against bums) since a KO to Tyson in '89
Hasim Rahman - A fighter who didn't even take up boxing until the age of 20, making his pro debut at 22 in 1994 a guy with no punch resistance, not just been ko'd, but out of the ring in 1999 by Oleg Maskaev. Lennox got ko'd in 5
Hasim Rahman 2 - Lennox won in 4 in a 2001 rematch, so poor was Hasim Rahman that he didn't win another fight until a 2004 U/D "HBO Ballroom Boxing" match with 41yo Al Cole
lennox lewis was indeed a great boxer but not a great fighter. He didnt have the intensity of holyfield and tyson. He lacked the heart determination and chin of holyfield and the pure aggressiveness of tyson.. Your not going to like it lewis fans but because of that and his knockouts at the hands of mediocre fighters like McCall and Rahman he is never going to get his due right or wrong.
How about his stoppage of Vitali K, came back from behind. Didn't see Tyson come back from being behind to win. Nearly did with Douglas but after that.. Then there was Lewis recovery from being rocked by Shannon Briggs.. to come back and win, others as well.
@Superwhodatt Lewis was a bum, pure and simple, he couldn't stop anybody. He is a "man" famous for running away from Vitali Klitschko after promising him a rematch on HBO in front of 7 million viewers
That meant, after avoiding the best fighters and getting ko'd by a pair of bums, he wasn't a man inside the ring, nor out of it
@cpaignboxing I AM 7'2 DAEG. I TRAIN AS A CAGE FIGHTER HOMIE. YOU DONT EVFEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT WHAT I COULD DO TO UR ASS DOG. I WOULD SMASH DOWN ON U SO HARD U WOULD BE BEGGING ME STOP
@DJSexLeopard HAHA ok tough guy. U think ur scaring anybody over the internet? Ur some fat piece of shit who thinks hes tough. "I train as a cage fighter homie" HAHAHAHA theres probably 100 million internet cage fighters. FUCKING IDIOT
3:18 “The papers allege Tyson’s training’s not gone well, they reckon that when he’s not been sweating in the gym, he’s been sunning himself on the beach smoking marijuana”
FUKIN RIDICULOUS, THE SECURITY IN THE RING IS FUKIN RIDICULOUS, GET THE FUK OUT OF THE GODDAMN RING, THERE IS NO NEED FOR THEM TO BE IN THERE, IF I WAS FIGHTING I WOULD NOT ENTER THE RING UNTIL THEY LEFT..... FUK SECURITY!!!!!!!!
@Mr1derful713 To be far BOTH men had proved to be volatile. Lewis threw the first punch at the brawl and started a brawl with Rahman on ESPN. The security was there to make sure that everyone got paid by the fight starting after the bell.
LOL - What you have to understand is that there was only 10 months age difference - an even keel. Lewis destroyed Tyson because he was the better fighter. End off. I'm out
@MadMadJackMcMad LOL age doesn't determine someones prime. Tyson had been in prison for 3 years. The tyson that fought holyfield was no where near prime. Where is Tysons head movement? This is no where near the Pre prison tyson
mike tyson was finish, you all need to understand that lewis became pro in 1989 many years after the era of mike tyson, tyson fought lewis 20 years after he became pro, so tyson had a lot of fight and was tired, lewis wanted this fight because he knew he was going to win, tyson all he wanted was money to clear his bills, tyson's name still greater than lewis until today because he was a greater fighter than lewis
TYSON'S LAUGHING!; It's a night on the boos for Lennox.
Sunday Mirror (London, England)
Date: May 12, 1996
The result brings a scathing attack from Jay Larkin, senior vice-president of Showtime TV sport. He alleges Lennox has no genuine intention of facing Tyson.
"Lewis is welcome in a ring with Tyson on July 13 and we will pay him 10 million dollars - the biggest purse of his life.
"Lewis and his people have refused.
LENNOX LEWIS = COWARD-WAITED UNTIL 2002 WHEN TYSON WASHED UP
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Yes, but he would also have to break a damn near 100 million dollar contract with HBO. Yeah I'll trade 10 million for 100 million. I now understand you. Your freakin retarded. Showtime just needed to do the joint pay per view. That's not what they wanted they wanted Lewis under their control. Even the article says if they up their bid to 15 million we fight called time value of money. 15 million now would allow him to cover his potential HBO losses. Keep quote mining liar.
I remember seeing this with my junior who was 11 at the time and for weeks leading up to this fight he was banging on a bout tyson saying he would batter lewis and i remember telling him tyson at any stage of his career would have got beaten by lewis . Lewis was a very skilled boxer . and he even won a gold medal at the olympics and beleive me in those days you didn't win gold at the olympics by being a push over i will tell you that
Today's Tyson is no longer the Tyson of legend after being beaten twice by Evander Holyfield. And after the second Holyfield bout-went downhill
"Tyson's last few have basically been traveling circus shows," Lewis said. "I understand that he still has a lot of fans out there, but they're fans that look at him when Tyson was Tyson. The Tyson of today is a different man."
Tucker was way past his best and a crack-cocaine addict, Bruno had been knocked out 3 times with two of the 3 being knocked unconscious.. so certainly not Class A fighters
Lewis should have been going after the big fish of the heavyweight division, instead of fighting a guy he knew was in a drug-rehab. (An overweight and untrained Oliver McCall)
Briggs was one of the weakest title holders in history a class c fighter, getting a gift to get by a 47yo George Foreman
Sports of the Times; Lewis’s Legacy Is Taking a BeatingBy DAVE ANDERSON Published: June 23, 2003
Whenever boxing buffs measure Lewis against other heavyweight champions, those three names will sabotage his stature. When the best heavyweights of the past lost, it usually was to worthy opponents. But the best champions never got knocked out, as Lennox Lewis did, by somebody like Hasim Rahman or Oliver McCall.
it's really sad because look at the stare and look on mike tyson's face, this is a docile weak version of Tyson. The worse version. Even the mean holyfield fight Tyson would have done much better. Look at Tyson's fights vs ruddock he look like he wanted to murder ruddock. THAT BEING SAID. THE worse shittiest laziest version of LENNOX LEWIS still managed to do a lot better against a prime vitali Klitschko then Tyson did against lewis. So no excuses for tyson.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward zoloft and lithium are depression medications... oh and we all know cocaine is an energy stabilizer. CORRECTION: He is an alcoholic.
Then came the bulletin that Tyson's October 2000 post-fight urine sample tested positive for marijuana
the one-two combination of antidepressants and marijuana — even if ingestion is separated by weeks — could make even the toughest customer punchy or worse, doctors say.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Lewis won three of the 6 Klitschko rounds, and he busted his eye up. That being said, Klitschko had dominated all of his previous opponents. Sooooo, I don't see how Lewis is a coward. Bet you wouldn't say that if he were standing in front of you! Haha

There isn't much point in saying whose better, boixing isn't about the best, its a business, the majority of "champions" have been guided by their camps through the easiest path, its just a business when it comes down to it.
motley0crue12 1 week ago
@motley0crue12 I can see your point, Lewis could never destroy opponents in the first round like Tyson did with Micael Spinks and the majority of people early in his career, however over more than 7 rounds I would always have put my money on Lewis over Tyson. I guess it says more about Tyson's self destruction that he had probably hit his prime by the time he was 22 years old, if he could have held it together he would have probably been the greatest heavyweight ever

Q+A: George Foreman
With the June 8 Mike Tyson-Lennox Lewis bout coming up, we grilled HBO boxing announcer George Foreman
By Richard Deitsch
SI: What's your pick for Tyson-Lewis?
Foreman: If Tyson comes in at 222 pounds or under, I give him the edge. I'll take him in a knockout. Three rounds.
SI: In your prime how quickly do you knock out Lewis?
Foreman: Two rounds.

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:
Ray Mercer - 1996 - Mercer was 35. So poor was his record, he hadn't won a fight for 3 yrs, a controversial SD against Jesse Ferguson in 1993. He was also outclassed by a 43 yo Larry Holmes in 1991. Mercer dominated and was clearly robbed. Naturally Mercer wanted a rematch offering to donate his all his $10m purse to Charity (Project Pride-Newark). Amazingly the Vulture Lennox Lewis refused!

Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents
Evander Holyfield - Lennox cleverly waited until Holyfield was 37 years old to finally muster up the courage to fight him. Holyfield had already once retired with a congenital heart defect and looked a shadow of his late 90's-Early 90's prime. After Holyfield winning a controversial decision against Vaughn Bean in 1998, Lennox Lewis still needed a favour off the judges despite Holyfield being washed up

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:
Oliver McCall - Oliver was 29 years old and stopped Lennox easily in the 2nd round. However in 1996 he fell into Crack Cocaine-Alcohol Problems. He had 3 drug related arrests and was under house arrest / drug rehab since December 15th 1996. Ironic thing is as bad as lennox looked in this fight, lewis was such a great boxer that even this shit version of lennox can probably still beat prime vitali by points.
exploitivex 1 month ago
I don't blame the ignorance of boxing fans these days because boxing has been a declining sport ever since I say 2003-2004. So no blame but here to educate. Obviously iron mike is a shell of his former self in this fight, but lennox lewis is ALSO A SHELL of his former self. Anybody that think this is PRIME lennox is a idiot. Watch lennox vs golota. lennox vs grant, that is prime lennox. This lennox lewis is way pass prime. Lennox was out of his prime against Tyson and vitali both.
exploitivex 1 month ago
@exploitivex Ok, but how much further past his prime is Tyson here versus Lennox Lewis? That's the real question. Tyson pretty much officially left his prime by 1990 and then, in addition to that, spent 3 years in prison with no real boxing training whatsoever before finally making his return to the ring in 1995. THEN add another 7 years before he finally fights Lennox Lewis. Tyson was at the very least 12 years past his prime by this point, so there's really no comparison here.
LedWhisky69 4 weeks ago

Klitschko had this to say about Lewis in East Side Boxing’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio program yesterday: “If we talk about the retirement of Lennox Lewis, I am more than sure I sent Lennox Lewis into retirement.

Zlogical1 1 month ago

Whatever.

@DabromstaMike Tyson's Marijuana Use May Have Been A Factor
| August 1, 2004 | Tim Graham 07:10:52 BST
There was no fear Tyson would need to submit to a drug test for Friday night's bout. Illegal narcotics and steroids conveniently aren't banned substances according to the Kentucky Athletic Commission.
Another time he was asked about the Lewis fight, Tyson replied: "Man, I don't know what I was on. Maybe I just smoked too much weed. There's no doubt I've been a monster."

Lewis was one of the best heavyweights of all time.
People would rather give up their belts than face Lewis.
1992 - Bowe dumped the WBC title in a trash can and relinquish it.
1996 - Rather than fight Lewis, Tyson relinquised the WBC belt and the title was declared vacant.
Even George Foreman declared "He is, no doubt, the best heavyweight of all time. What he's done clearly puts him on top of the heap."

Irritated Lennox Lewis tackles Tyson question
By CLIFTON DOWELL
(November 6, 2000 9:55 p.m. EST

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:
Mike Tyson - Before we encroach this subject, lets rewind to 1998 and a statement by Emmanuel Steward about the quality of Lennox Lewis's opposition-"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight,"
Mike Tyson admitted he was ALSO a washed up drug addict in 2002!

Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:
Razor Ruddock - a walking Asthma Attack who had already been ko'd by a bum called David Jaco who retired with a 24-25-1 (18 by KO) record, who had never held any version of a world title and no relevant wins
Frank Bruno - 1993- Famous for stamina problems and a caramel chin (James Smith '84 + Witherspoon '86) washed up Bruno had fought just 4 times (against bums) since a KO to Tyson in '89

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:

Your not going to like it lewis fans but because of that and his knockouts at the hands of mediocre fighters like McCall and Rahman he is never going to get his due right or wrong.
bobber0623 1 month ago
@bobber0623
How about his stoppage of Vitali K, came back from behind. Didn't see Tyson come back from being behind to win. Nearly did with Douglas but after that.. Then there was Lewis recovery from being rocked by Shannon Briggs.. to come back and win, others as well.
Superwhodatt 1 month ago
@Superwhodatt Lewis was a bum, pure and simple, he couldn't stop anybody. He is a "man" famous for running away from Vitali Klitschko after promising him a rematch on HBO in front of 7 million viewers
That meant, after avoiding the best fighters and getting ko'd by a pair of bums, he wasn't a man inside the ring, nor out of it

LOL - What you have to understand is that there was only 10 months age difference - an even keel. Lewis destroyed Tyson because he was the better fighter. End off. I'm out
MadMadJackMcMad 2 months ago
@MadMadJackMcMad LOL age doesn't determine someones prime. Tyson had been in prison for 3 years. The tyson that fought holyfield was no where near prime. Where is Tysons head movement? This is no where near the Pre prison tyson

He never fought Bowe and faced fellow champions Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson well past their primes.
Lewis also faced intense scrutiny when his first title reign ended after 16 months as he was knocked out by lightly regarded challenger Oliver McCall
Lewis' questionable chin left the possibility that he could be dropped in any fight
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 2 months ago
mike tyson was finish, you all need to understand that lewis became pro in 1989 many years after the era of mike tyson, tyson fought lewis 20 years after he became pro, so tyson had a lot of fight and was tired, lewis wanted this fight because he knew he was going to win, tyson all he wanted was money to clear his bills, tyson's name still greater than lewis until today because he was a greater fighter than lewis

LENNOX LEWIS = COWARD-WAITED UNTIL 2002 WHEN TYSON WASHED UP
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 2 months ago
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Yes, but he would also have to break a damn near 100 million dollar contract with HBO. Yeah I'll trade 10 million for 100 million. I now understand you. Your freakin retarded. Showtime just needed to do the joint pay per view. That's not what they wanted they wanted Lewis under their control. Even the article says if they up their bid to 15 million we fight called time value of money. 15 million now would allow him to cover his potential HBO losses. Keep quote mining liar.

Lewis was a very skilled boxer . and he even won a gold medal at the olympics and beleive me in those days you didn't win gold at the olympics by being a push over i will tell you that

" He's not the fighter he was you can beat him "
thehitchrules 2 months ago
He was stopped twice by single punches.
All of his best wins were against old diminished fighters.
He avoided a Vitali rematch and avoided Byrd.
He never fought a southpaw.
He used to fight safety first for the larger part of the time, just as much as present day Wlad.

Marijuana and antidepressants don't mix
By Mike Falcon, Spotlight Health
With medical adviser Stephen A. Shoop, M.D.
Then came the bulletin that Tyson's October 2000 post-fight urine sample tested positive for marijuana
the one-two combination of antidepressants and marijuana — even if ingestion is separated by weeks — could make even the toughest customer punchy or worse, doctors say.
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 2 months ago
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Lewis won three of the 6 Klitschko rounds, and he busted his eye up. That being said, Klitschko had dominated all of his previous opponents. Sooooo, I don't see how Lewis is a coward. Bet you wouldn't say that if he were standing in front of you! Haha
