  • Sonny's whoops are incredible.

  • Most Praise to THE MOST HIGH YHWH for returning YOUR PEOPLE back Home to YOU from the Land of Captivity. May McGhee & Terry enjoy The Rest & Peace of The GOD (EL) of Our Ancestors Called YHWH. Blessings & Shalom,

  • 3 people were born with silver spoons

  • Pure genius as its finest

  • omg this is an amazing vintage clip. Quality!!

  • Rocks is my pillow, cold ground my bed

blue skies my blanket, moonlight my spread

    WoooaaaAAAAOOOoooowooo

  • isnt he willie dixon on contrabass?? or am i wrong?

  • @tersinetersine you're correct :)

  • Brownies giutar sounds a bit out of tune on this one. they must have done this song at the end of a number of others. Still sounds great!

  • Remembering Brownie today: Nov. 30, 1915 - Feb. 16, 1996

  • the bass is out of tune ahah

  • grazie ragazzi.

  • i was just born too late

  • this is the shit

  • what are the damn chords to this!!!???

lol, i cringe at how damn awesome this song is!

  • The blues is mankind at its best.

  • o yeah this help me to feel a little better knowin im not the only one whit a broken heart

  • Sonny on harp, Brownie on guitar and vocals, and the great Willie Dixon on bass. Man! I was born in the wrong time. I can only imagine how it must have been to see these greats, these legends in person.

  • this is incredible!!, I love this song

    me llega al corazón!

  • my momma had em, daddy had em too

  • great great music :D

  • I love em both, but I really like that little shout Sonny puts in now and then.

  • cool

  • how brilliant it is

  • I've used my guitar for my pillow! OH YES!

  • This is where my love of the blues started.

  • Sooo... smooth, thank you

  • 2:50

  • great stuff but why is it so out of synch

  • Me and old sonnys got the blues. DAMN so good. Im no musician but that pause between "sonnys" and "got" just KILLS me

  • The song is in the key of F harp in the key of Bb

  • hahaha Willie Dixon is everywhere! I swear he is on Bass in every blues video I watch on Youtube. He is so cool.

  • Perfecto maestro! great great great!

  • What harp is Mcghee using?

I know its not C, help me please, i will sing it for a girl :D

  • Sonny Terry is playing a Bb harp. But you have to play it in cross-harp style since the song actually is in F. There are quite a few videos on youtube explaning it. Hope I could help.

  • Thanks spooki :D

    But one thing

When i buy it, i ask for an F harp or an Bb Harp ?

I know play harp in C, and very well, but im kind of noob on letters of harps :D

  • Bb :)

  • @SporeCreator4 aww . . . did the girl like it?

    Elisa

  • I don't think they had your desire to learn the song in mind when they filmed this. If you really wanted to play it, you wouldn't need to see his hands. Give thanks.

  • A good song spoilt by crap camera work If I go to see a muscian play and sing, thats what I want, not just his face, this is typical of camera work, they cant get off the face

  • Look man...If you know anything about BLUES, you'll be a thousand times more thankful for being able to see his face close up and NOTHING BUT. That should teach you a helluva lot more than if you saw his hands. Plus: you've got ears, right...?

  • @metyuewb i love his face, it portrays his soul

  • @bluesoulady sorry for you me and my brother travelled with them in Europe and other Great Bluesmen and women who are in Blues Heaven now jamming ariund

  • @bobobekker yes sireee theres a lot of music going on up there and I count it a privilege to have seen them on youtube and hear them on cd etc and know that there are many others too who are following in the blues trail! and so, it shows that the blues is the roots and the rest is the fruits! wonderful stuff!

  • if u specificaly looked up sonny or brownie then

we were all sure born with the blues

we got it in our blood

now excuse me i shall go toke a bowl play some gueEtar and meditate on the EARTH

  • grandissimo

  • Great Post! The video clean! Nice!

  • That's what I'm talking about!

  • wow, lump in my throat, unreal

  • god, what a voice

  • love the music but the audio video sync got crappier and crappier.

  • anyone got the lyrics for this one?

  • one of the best song ever made

  • just as well you dont see sonny in the video, (even sonny could not see. 16+, farming accident??again!?)both lights out...

...but his magic is there throughout.

    bless em both.

  • Brownie McGhee - One of my absolute favorites along with all the "American Folk Festival" stuff!

  • A great blessing on my life was getting to hang out with Brownie and Sonny in the late fifties when I was barely a teenager at the Idyllwild Arts Foundation in the San Jacinto mountains where they would show up every summer for a "folk-music" workshop along with people like Pete Seeger and The New Lost City Ramblers. I was learning to play guitar and got to go to Brownie's classes where he taught us simple blues runs in E. Haven't heard them in years, and here they are, all over this place!

  • Got a little story to tell you about those two. In 1960 I worked for a record label that had its own studio. One day I had to go back into the sound booth and deliver a phone message. In the corner were these two men singing "Red Rooster." I didn't even know who they were. Somebody had to tell me. I was 21. ---O'Ross

  • great song.I´d also love to see them play "sittin´on top of the world", but couldn´t find it anywhere. If anybody could figure out the chords of those two songs I´d be so grateful.

  • Sonny and Brownie...the epitome of blues. Sit back, open your ears, and be moved.

  • Thanks for posting this. I discover Sonny and Terry over 50 years ago, I love these two giants of the Blues. What a great sound they have.

  • I just cant get tired of it!!!

  • superrrrrrr

this song is simply the blues

thats what real blues was all about

  • Brownie is one of the best blues guitarists of the era. seriously really good playing dude.

  • dats da blues

  • lyrics just listen and write down m8.

  • Is there anybody who have lirycs to this song? it's hard to find it on web site. Please help me

  • LIsten to the song, and write the lyrics yourself. Its not a very hard song to follow lyrically.

  • I agree with chvacky... you have taste....and ears...these were the best....they melt together

  • this is where it all originated

I love it man, we are so lucky to get to see this material anytime we want

  • What Key of Harp is Sonny in?

  • Possibly F ?

  • The harp is in the key of Bb. But he is playing it in F. That is called cross-harp.

  • I hear tell his favorite key was Bb. I purchased a Bb in a Lee Oskar a while back and then read that Sonny Terry had switched from playing Marine Band to a Lee Oskar before he died in 1986. The LO harps are not good for overblowing without modification but their airtight design makes for easy interesting draw bends and their sound projects much louder than the classic Hohner Marine Band. The Lee Oskars also have 2nd Position Key (Cross Harp) printed on the high register end of the harp.

  • they were the greatest blues couple... ever...

  • couple of my favorite musicians....

  • Sonny Terry and Browning McGhee

Two legendary giant of the blues. I like theirs country blues style. Awesome !
