  • I can't watch this without crying. This is such an honest portrayal.

  • Brian sucks at blowing out candles

  • I need to see this with Alice Ripley. NEED.

  • i love when she bangs down the chair.. epic. this song is so emotional, and i can really relate to it. One of the best songs ever. i'd kill to see this live.

  • I didn't love Brian in this show (I prefer J. Robert Spencer as Dan) but he is definitely one of my favorite singers ever!

  • I love when Aaron Tveit just lets out a huge grin of perfectness.

  • I saw Brian d'Arcy James opposite Alice Ripley twice (in the same day actually) and they worked really well as husband and wife. So much love for this show. It's a 6-person cast, but I have actually seen 17 different people in the roles.

  • please can you post mroe videos pleaseee

  • i saw n2n in chicago for student rush tickets and alice standby named pearl sun went on and she was great and then the second time alice went on and her singing wasnt my favorite but her acting was great

  • @thisyearsrent2011 I watched it on Saturday 7:30pm. There are are certain parts they have to modify to the puzzle up the pieces otherwise the frickin pieces wouldn't fit to go. ;) I extremely wish they have a Toronto production, but at $40... the seats I sat were great, if I paid an extra $65 I'd be closer, but where I seat was on floor far far back row CC. :D

Curt Hansen, but not bad, but he strides WAY TOO MUCH, too much exagerrating the move comparing to Aaron Tveit & Kyle Dean Massey.

  • "you tell me let go, and you may say so, but I say..." sounds like she made it up on the spot and it still rhymes. i love alice.

  • 49,999 views...hey look, I just had the 50,000th view! :) Or at least it was close to that...

  • Whoever disliked this video you don't know, I know you don't know :)

  • Does anyone else love how Aaron (Gabe) smirks/smiles at Brian (Dan) when he sees that we won?!? I do!

  • Is this show for trade? I love it!

  • omg..Hotness o-o

  • Yeah that's because it's off broadway

    But either way it's amazing

  • I notice this is a slight difference on the lyrics in the off-broadway vs broadway.

In this vid, Alice sing "You don't know, you tell me let go/ and you may say so but I say, you don't know..."

In the broadway version and OST it's "you don't know, it lays me so low/ when you say let go and I say, you don't know..."

  • @quankevin It's possible she just messed up the words

  • @quankevin I saw it on tour the other day and alice used the original lyrics. I think she just tripped on her words.

  • @MatthewThomasDix I just saw the show in Toronto, it was spectacular! Asa Somers and Kurt Hansen was not quite up to par comparing to J. Robert Spencer/Brian James D'Arcy and Aaron Tveit.

There did change some of the script and lyrics. In [He's Not Here] they changed from "He's been gone, sixteen years" to "He's been gone, several years". They also changed the part were Gabe dies from 18 months to 8 months.

  • Brian D'Arcy James is mind blowing.

  • Aaron's grin at 4:31 = >:-)

  • @LawsIam Why is he grinning? And why do we notice such small things? Like, is it a pucker or pecker? I guess because it's Aaron Teveit.

  • Alice Ripley is better than Idina because she brings emotion to people while idina just sounds good. GO ALICE!

  • actual shivers down my spine

    absolutly amazing!

    wow!

  • This is the Alice I love. Ever since the later Broadway run, she just want over the top with it and her voice was put to shreds, and she was so flat and raspy. It's even worse on tour now. I seriously hope she takes a good amount of time off, she needs it. I love this video, though.

  • @theemaestro576 The night I saw her, she was hardly ever flat or raspy, but her voice just sounds EXHAUSTED. She needs to stop to recover the quality of her voice.

  • @yobsterrish maybe that explains why she kinda sounded like crap today when i saw it...like she never opens her mouth... interesting sound but unintelligible sometimes...and always doing that wierd riff at the end of her lines flatting her notes...she did it in this vid at like 1:30..like her vibrato takes over her singing

  • @kylezo The role itself is in her higher register. If you take a listen to her solo music and with her band (Ripley) you'll notice that she is a lot more powerful when she's singing songs in a lower key. She's mainly an actress who has a great voice, like Idina Menzel is a singer who has great acting skills. I'm just saying...

  • @ritsfata you are absolutely right. in her lower register, she sounded absolutely fabulous. pure and powerful. higher up, she jsut started to sound...well just powerful without so much pure, lol. really warped vowels. something in there that reminds me of bernadette peters though, too, they both have a very unique sound. its just the 'you dont knughh, you dont knugghhe' that was kind of rubbing me the wrong way. in any case...i don't care because it was a divine performance.

  • I saw this yesterday and Alice was obviously sick... she sounded terrible and I was kinda upset that I didn't get to see her at her best. But I gotta admit I admire her for still going up there and giving it her all even when she's not feeling well....

  • Alice Ripley = head bitch in charge. Love her.

  • the original cast is better : (

  • @sweet16jcm What's funny is, this IS the original cast. This was the prelude to Broadway. Alice Ripley carried over to the Broadway cast, but this is quite good still, sorry to contradict you. (I do agree with you that the cast they had for the original Broadway run was phenomenal however)

  • @TheTerminator2400 really?! :( kind of disappointing, they seem so... dry... idk, just not the same as other performances i've seen, they just seem so off. it's still good but, like you said, the original broadway run was when it was at it's prime. it's fine, thanks for correcting me!

  • ummm... is she singing to a 'sick track'? Its either a sick track or her fold back is massive from 4:20 onwards

  • aaron fucking tveit :)

    enough said.

  • you just can't help feeling bad for Dan. He's an amazing husband who refuses to give up on his wife who is basically pushing him away

  • aaron's voice=eargasm

  • @Clarelisa4 Aaron = orgasm.

God I'm jealous of Alice at the end of the song...

  • This was on my birthday :)

  • can you upload the "im alive (reprise)" and "the break"? :) i'd appreaciate it and fave it and tell all my friends :)

  • This song really improved when it transfered to broadway, notthat this wasn't good I just think te broadway version is ten times better

  • i wish someone posted a video of him on his 2nd run with the show. he got 10x better.

  • Man, the end of You Don't Know with the tossing of the cutlery had so much less impact here... at the Tony's it gave he goosebumps. I love Alice Ripley!

  • I saw this for the first time with the Tony performance, and I was instantly interested. I just never got a chance to really look it up till now. It's an absolutely amazing and powerful show.

  • do you have everything else, catch me I'm falling, or maybe?

  • i came from Australia & saw this musical while in NY and by far this was one of my favorites of all time. Each actor was perfect for the show!!!

  • Misicluvr7011 (or whatever)- I completely agree. Dan is supposed to be very handsome and sucsessful and bdj just gives that off. And his voice is amazing and fits the part oh to well.

  • Thank you so much I love this. It's so cool to see how far the show has come. And I totally love Aaron tveit (dibs) jk:)

  • I love BDJ in this part! I wish he was on the OBC cast album instead of JRS ! Don't get me wrong... i love JRS but i love BDJ more !

  • NEXT TO NORMAL... COME TO LONDON PLEASEEEE :)

  • I LOVE BDJ!

  • Whaaaat is going on with that harmony at 3:39?

  • @Grey850 sounds like brian and aaron switched their harmonies

  • @RandomPersonman They did, it must of been how they had it originally in the Off Broadway production.

  • @Grey850 they sang it right it probably is just how it was recorded, because it is usually a really intense clash but there it was just kind of there.

  • JRS is soooo much better but Brian is pretty good... I got to see Bobby twice and hopefully I'll get to see Brian this go around

  • Brian d'Arcy James is replacing J. Robert Spencer as Dan on May 17th!!!! I'm sooo happy to see him return to the role!!!!

  • I love this show! I can't wait to see Brian D'arcy James back in Next To Normal! May 17th can't come soon enough! LOL :)

  • i don't really like Brian d'Arcy James, but I'd still love to see him live. See how he shows this role, besides Bobby.

  • i think i like spencer better becasue his voice is higher and mixes with aarons and now kyles better :)

  • SPENCER LEFT?

  • @INTERPOLFAN17 Spencer leaves May 16.

  • There's too much talent on one stage. I can't even handle it.

Dear BDJ- PLEASE reprise this role.

  • @BlueJeanBaby012 It's official! Brian is reprising the role beginning May 17! The news is on Playbill and every major thatre website!

  • I think Alice should also do the tour! Sooo many people want to see her but not a lot of people can afford to go back to NYC to see her.

  • i hope it comes to england

  • Original cast....Brian is amazing.....but "bobby" is brilliant......this show stands alone!!!

  • First time ive heard and saw Alice Riplley she is really amazing!

  • As a matter of fact this guy's name is not J. Robert Spencer. It is Brian D'Arcy James. Brian left the show to assume the role of Shrek and was REPLACED by J. Robert Spencer. (:

  • seems like an off performance.

  • @BaileyAnn88 i agree 100%...Alice is usually much better..well in the other bootleg videos she is, lol

  • @Liamiswaynotcool not a problem. :) I just don't like how people spread silly rumors. nothing against you at all...I know it's just what you heard.

  • @Liamiswaynotcool she never comes out of the stage door during matinees.. but she's usually there on matinees. I work for the theatre.

  • I think Bobby and Alice have more of a natural chemistry than Brian and Alice, imo.

  • @jezzebelle2000 What is this guy's full name? Bobby what?

  • @OperaLover84 It's J. Robert Spencer. He (and everyone else) calls him Bobby.

  • @jezzebelle2000 Not J. Robert lol it's Brian D'arcey James.

  • @BroadwayKidNamedJosh no, someone was asking what Bobby's full name was. :)

  • @Liamiswaynotcool that's not really accurate. she does...maybe she was out when you saw a matinee in the past but she never is out unless she's really ill or has a prior commitment.

  • i love aaron's grin at 4:31 haha :)

  • Whoa, that's creepy!!

  • the grin or my comment? lol

  • The grin! LOL!

  • Alice is probly one of my fav actresses of all time she just puts so much into the role i want this show on tour and in LA please same with shrek and billy elliot

  • omg totally i need this on tour and yeah shrek an billy elliot that would like make my year lol

  • @theatergeek36 "Next to Normal" is coming to LA in November!!!!!!!!!

  • @theatergeek36 this show is going to be on tour next fall. look at the website.

    I know, i'm excited too.XD

  • @theatergeek36 Alice is coming to LA in Next to Normal on the tour. BDJ is not. But she is the shit.

  • @theatergeek36 Saw it this past Saturday. Marin Mazzie took over and is amazing in her own right.

  • @theatergeek36 ahahahaaa shrek and next to normal are coming!!

  • @theatergeek36 you got your wish haha

  • agreed.

  • Aaron gets those high notes off SO easily!!! GAH!

  • I find Jame's voice to be superior to Spencers, but Spencer brings more passion to it. I wish we could combine the two!

  • i agree spencer is great but james is an amazing father figure ha

  • brian's incredible, but the broadway mairrage has a better chemistry, i think.

  • Alice Riplley please be there when i see this show in January

  • the only one whos gonna be gone is Aaron, I think.

  • Well Brian is good but Shrek is definitely his best! I prefer Bobby Spencer in this role too.

  • I NEED TO SEE THIS SHOW NOW! haha

  • Great clip... very interesting to hear Brain singing it... I keep thinking of Shrek during it. Brother can sing! The broadway edition has a little more passion behind it... this feels more conversational.

  • I like the dad in the Broadway cast better!

  • Thanks so much! Brian D'Arcy James is one of my favorite Broadway stars! Really, The Wild Party and Shrek the Musical are some of my favorite shows. Then I find out he was in the Off-Broadway cast of Next to Normal!!!! OMGOODNESS!!! I have so much respect of him! Thanks again!

  • @foreveramarchclover got to see him!!! SWEETEST GUY!!!

  • @foreveramarchclover I love his voice so much better than the guy they had for the Tony's. His mix with Aaron is so much stronger and filled with manly power.

  • @foreveramarchclover did great in Titanic the musical also...but in N2N i prefer J. Robert Spencer , not saying Brians not great...

  • Thanks so much for putting this up! Been waiting for this for a while!

  • You are wonderful for uploading this :D
