Call me super slow, but I just now realized Sam is describing only one night, in full, with a loved one. He's not talking about 4 verses of random exeriences, but creating a story about one night. From you setting the mood, to you being alone with your loved one and getting into foreplay (if you will), to you two actually making love (lyrics heart beating fast...), to you having to leave afterwards...as much as I listened to this song, I never realized this...I guess I now HEAR this song.

This is my absolute fav Cooke song (that's secular). So many male vocalists since Sam have tried to emulate his voice...the odd mixture of raspy clarity, melisma, tone and vocalizing, but they never ever quite get it right. I love this song.
