Good track but...I'll be honest, it bothers me a little that a lot of the solo parts here don't really have much significance to that groove riff underneath, doesn't seem to be in the same key half the time. I'm sure he did that on purpose but still
@csplendrig Try listening to it from a "harmonization" perspective. Like a lot of Greg's stuff, this one is replete with shreading that includes a nice dose of music theory (i.e. tritone substitution, super-imposing whole-toney and diminished licks over minor chords). Scott Henderson does a lot of that also. They both keep it relateable to a wider listening audience, by staying "bluesy", raw and emotive (i.e. mixing bends into the legato phrasing).
One question: If i had a swamp ash body guiat with a maple neck and f-board and threw in a couple of dimarzio Breed humbuckers in there...would I get Greg howe's tone or atleast close to it?
@sensational1982 the guitar parts do play a huge part in tonality, pickups are definitely a good start, not as sure on the wood types, but after the pickups I would look at the pedals greg howe uses if you want to get his tone.
Check prashant aswani revelation cd he has this song.and if you google it you will see yourself that greg howe have played in that cd in 3 songs.check it
@julneojazz Guthrie like all the new guitarists I think to Andy James are technically totally awesome. But I guess none of them will never play sth like this track. I mean Greg playing is unique. This guy is insane in his head! This track must be one of the most beautiful and weird I have never heard...
fantastic

@sensational1982 85% of the sound is the amp/effects configuration. So, not really.

@gebass6
The only time you'll enjoy the 6 minutes it takes for the train to clear the crossing ;-)
